- Join Bryan as he takes a look at the American brand set to dominate the woodworking market: DFM Toolworks. Specializing in high-quality woodworking tools, DFM is revolutionizing the industry with their innovative designs and exceptional craftsmanship. Get the inside scoop on what sets DFM apart from the competition and why their tools are a must-have for any woodworking enthusiast!
NOTE: For the DFM Carpenter Square and the Woodpeckers Delve Ssquare there is a difference when marking the angles. For the DFM it is measuring the angle from the bottom of you workpiece to the to the line you strick, for Woodpeckers it is measuring from the 90 Degree marking to the line you strike. I don't think I clarified this well in the video. Thanks for your understanding!

Please drop the Burt Cam gimmick. You don't need such things. Your videos are already quite good and with just the right amount of editing and content and your humor content is already sufficient.
Thanks for your feedback.
Yeah, go pro.... your presentation and accuracy is all the gimmick you need.... IMHO (and yes I did subscribe)
I agree, burt cam is just a distraction. My preference would be to ditch it. Good video otherwise
I actually like the Burt Cam. There are a million other woodworking channels that are completely serious and they all seem the same. Don't know why everyone has to have a stick up their butt. Maybe I appreciate humor and fun too much to be a woodworker. ;-)
Who cares about Burt Cam? The content is good and a bit of humour doesn’t detract from the information, your choice, keep or ditch, I will still watch.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and appreciate your feedback!
Thanks so much for watching. Love your tools!
Loved it!
Well done!
Thanks so much Robert! I appreciate it and thanks for watching!
Haven't done wood work in years but love the channel. Go DFM.
Thank you so much heffiagametech! I really appreciate that! :). We like to have fun on this channel.
I love my DFM tools. I have the dowel plate and it’s incredibly helpful in making exotic dowels. Also have the multi scraper set and burnished and the two squares from this video. They are great quality, you will not regret. Had my squares for years and they see lots of use.
That's great to hear stubachner! I hope they have years of use ahead of them! I appreciate you watching!
I love the DFM squares. I use mine all of the time. They are absolutely perfect and accurate with a great price. I hope the add more products soon!
I 100% agree sean! I was actually surprised when I went to their amazon store and only saw the ones I spoke about! Great company! Thanks as always for watching!
American made, giid quality and affordable. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Doesn’t get any better than that does it! Thanks so much for watching and stay safe warm, happy and healthy as well!
Definitely checking out dfm. Thank you
Awesome! Pretty great tool company in my opinion! Thanks for watchign Nthaainsagers!
I've only recently started watching your channel. I've been very impressed. I would love to see a running list of all of your recommendations in one place. It would be easier than searching through previous videos for a tool you recommended that I didn't need at the time, but need now. Always wondered how thos packages magically dropped from the ceiling, but Burt revealed that secret.
Keep up the great videos.
Haha! It was either Burt or that Racoon that I hear living in my attic! Thank you so much and stay tuned. The reason I'm only putting out one long form video a week right now is because I'm working on a website. Hope to have it out in about a month! Thanks so much for watching bgregt!
Just found your channel. I really enjoyed the video a lot. I have two of the DFM card scrapers and love them! I keep one in my shop apron all the time so it stays close to hand. They are excellent tools for sure. Keep up the good work on the videos! Subscribed!
Thanks so much Michael! I appreciate it. Really impressed with DFM! Thanks so much for subbing!
Glad to see Burt is back. Great video.
Haha! Not sure I was so glad to see him, but yes, he made it back to the shop! :). Thanks for watching woodchip!
I enjoyed Burt haha@@FlynndoggWoodwork
@@dfmtoolworks Thanks! Lot of Burt haters from the comments, but I like to have fun. I'm not for everyone! :)
I love your shirt I can totally relate.
Haha! Me too! :) Thanks so much for watchign David!
Great descriptions. Just one minor point 32 mil is 0.032", 32 millimeters is just over 1.25"
Oh thank you! And thanks for watching!
I wanted to add to my comment about the Burt Cam part because afterward, I felt bad about leaving that comment. To me, Flynndogg Woodwork is one of the best CZcams channels around, and that all comes down to how Bryan makes it so interesting and accessible. Not only that, Bryan is just like the neighbor we all want to have - friendly, helpful, and down-to-earth. Also, to me, his videos are already just right and with an excellent blend of knowledge, experience, and playfulness. Lastly, I can't recall one video where I didn't take at least one thing away after viewing it (I just hope that his channel doesn't grow so large that he becomes similar to Bob Vila or April Wilkerson).
You are too kind ericellis. I didn't take your comment the bad way. I really appreciate you posting that. I don't mind feedback at all. Burt isn't for everyone. I just like having fun with this channel and sometimes, I don't always please everyone. Bad news is for many, that I already recorded a video coming out in a couple of weeks with Burt. :(. Burt was also in some of my very early videos as well. I won't be able to please everyone all the time, and I'm learning as I go, so I appreciate any feedback, especially when it is constructive!
Thanks for the introduction to DFM. I have a very few Woodpecker tools; can't justify the prices on most as there are high quality alternatives. At today's prices, the DFM square is 38% of the price of the Woodpeckers; not 25% less. Big difference. The scraper is 32 mils thick (0.032" or 1/32"). If 32mm thick that would be 1-1/4" thick. The Amazon descriptions are questionable. They list the square as being made of steel and the hammer as aluminum. Other than that, they look like a viable alternative to the high priced brand.
When I square my table saw blade I use a 4"x6" toolmaker grade square with the 6" edge in contact with the table surface. I don't trust the insert to be perfectly level with the table. Close, but not perfect.
Thank you so much for sharing this and great catch on the Mil reading. Someone else mentioned the same thing. that would be one hell of a scraper! :). Thank you so much for sharing your experience and thoughts on woodpeckers vs. these squares as well. I actually checked out another square company that I will be having a video on next week so stay tuned! :)
I have a good number of DFM tools. They are fantastic quality and a very fair price.
Thank you so much for sharing! I agree, and was really impressed. Be interesting to see if they come out with some more!
Looks good!
Thanks so much Mikeyeary! I appreciate you watching!
I think I'm going to get a DFM square! I always wondered why don't manufacturers sharpen card scrapers, plane blades, etc. Lots of good info Bryan! Thanks
Go for it Mike! They’re just as good as any other I’ve seen out there. Someone else mentioned loosing the pins, which I could totally see me doing, but really a pretty nice square
Yo! Dawg! I probably bought my DFM card-scrapers by mistake, but they are the best! I gotta get the groove one. I use the card scraper so much on every project I’m doing these days. They are amazing tools and so effective and oddly satisfying to use when you begin the process of taking off such fine amounts of wood. I regularly use them when I’m tryout to get a perfect fit. They also work well on tenons. Well done and thanks for the laughs, too!
Thanks so much Michael! You know its funny you say you bought the DFM scrapers by mistake! Me too! When I was making this video, I was like, wait a minute, I think my old scrapers are DFMs. Sure enough they are! Thanks so much as always for watching. I've got my eyes on those juice groove ones myself! :)
Nothing like a good scraper 😮
I'm with you! Thanks so much for watching Troyqueen!
Hopefully, DFM will expand its tool products.
That would be nice wouldn’t it Miltonchung! Thanks for watching!
Love the videos ..I've got to know where you get your shirts. I really like the one with different types of hardwood.
thanks so much, I got many of them at amazon, I'm in the process of creating a website that will have all of them available and more so stay tuned! :)
Cool video, going to check out the juicee groove scraper for sure. it is not all that much fun using the dowel and sandpaper for the juice grooves.
I’m with you, I’d like to get that too. Anyone who has put juice grooves into a cutting board knows the pain! Thanks for watching Doug!
Thanks
Thanks for watching Mr Sensable!
I'm hoping that the UK manufacturer Benchdogs, which makes very nice tools, is about to come out with its own small stainless steel and aluminium square. I like the idea of stainless squares as I'm not comfortable running a marking knife along an aluminium edge.
That would be great! I didn't realize benchdogs was out of the UK. My block plane is made by them and is awesome. Might have to check out some of their tools soon as well! Thanks so much for watching Mark!
I have to admit that cleaning out my juice groove really is a pain in my butt. 😊
You are telling me! What a pain, thanks so much for watching yooperpete!
The vacuum hose support looks interesting. Is it made to pivot left & right? A video on this would be interesting. Thank You, Richard
Thanks so much Richard! Yes! IT can go over 180 degrees, One of the best shop upgrades I've ever made. I'm actually thinking about building a second one, I'll definitely be doing a video on it when I do that. I got the idea from Lincoln St. Woodworks.
I like the video quite a bit! Your interaction with Burt is really quite entertaining in my book! Your scripting is quite clever without being obnoxious! Did you get a scholarship? I’ve never been on a ship! Pretty classic. Lol. You seem very personable and the type of guy I would certainly like to hang with and have a beer with! I don’t do well with people that think they are better than others, and you don’t give off that vibe! You keep it real and your knowledge of the subject matter is very clear, clean, and precise (except the card scraper being 32 mm thick lol) and gets the message across very well. Nobody anywhere at any time in all of human history has EVER satisfied everyone else! Just be you and watch your numbers, if your channel is growing and you’re having fun, good on you and persevere! I will be starting a wood turning channel soon and I certainly would not be able to incorporate your ability for humor, but I wish I could! Just the editing alone seems daunting to a technology challenged old man! Keep up the great work my friend!Take care! Scott (newest subscriber)
Thank you so much for this wonderful comment scottstubberud. I really appreciate it. I like having fun with this channel, and I know it's not for everyone. All in all, I'm just a dude, who thought it would be fun to make a channel about something I love. I make mistakes all the time, and I'm definitely no expert. But I'm actually learning a lot from many of the more seasoned woodworkers that comment and leave ideas. Thankfully I take most negative comments with a grain of salt, life is too short not to have fun! :). Thanks again for your uplifting comment!
measure measure cut swear repeat....love it story of my life...lol
Haha! Me too! :) Thanks for watching Joe!
Burt is kind of a Dork. Great Video, Thanks for sharing
I totally agree, A dork and an idiot! :). Thanks so much for watching Russrokino!
Love mine. JT is the best. Support him if you can.
That's awesome, yes, I agree, support him if you can! :) Thanks for watching jbjones54!
Great vid. Love the channel!
I got a scholarship for bart😅😂
Haha! Too funny! Thanks so much and thanks for watching Luke! :)
Woodpecker being a higher price point... THAT'S an understatement!
Haha! You aren't lying. Sometimes I try to guess what the price will be when I see a new product of theirs. I always estimate high , and when I go to look at the actual price I still undershoot the price!
One thing to note, it is easier for companies who produce tools after a company has been to market and study the tool and make changes.. for example the holes in the WP vs dfm. Also dfm is a limited run, so if you drop it or is damaged, how long do you have to wait for a replacement if any? WP is guaranteed for life. Both companies are in the USA
Yep you are correct. I just think the prices on woodpeckers are frankly ridiculous. If people will pay it that's great, but after having many woodpeckers tools and trying out a variety of alternatives, I don't think the difference in price is justified. But then again, I'm not aware of all their costs incurred to make them. Just saying as a consumer.
Amen on dropping the Burt cam. I think you did a great job on pointing out all the great point of these tools. I just don’t want to see cute tricks such as Burt Cams or photos of old movie clips. I would have subbed but was turned off, by them.
I will check out future videos and rethink the sub.
I appreciate the feedback, Just trying to have fun with this channel.
I'd like to have seen the scribe hole accuracy on the DFM. (Scribe each hole and see how accurate they are.)
Son of a gun, that would have been an excellent thing to add on this video. Thanks for bringing it up and thanks for watching!
I like your shirt lol
Haha! Yeah, it's one of my favorites! :)
When comparing squares, you mentioned one reason that you liked that the DFM square is that it is made in the USA, but the square you compared it to also says Made in the USA right on the front. Just something I noticed.
Oh yes, I thought about that too. I just always use my woodpeckers as a frame of reference as I've tested the heck out of those, and I know there are true. That was a little confusing I know. :). thanks for watching the honestman!
It seems like the tri grip wouldn’t be very stable if it’s stood up. Has anyone used these with the point end up?
I'm not sure I understand the question entirely, but maybe someone else does?
Dogg, man, dang you're killing us. More small tools? The four you highlighted will run about a buck and a quarter. Add in the Dowel and Domino plates for another buck forty and, finally, the mallet for a buck five and your halfway to your surface planer. Good Golly, Dogg man, you need some sponsors.
Haha! I know right?! I’m going to try and break out that lathe this week. It’s killing me to see it sitting there. I do need to figure out where it’s going to go. I also have another big tool that someone gave me that I need to do a video on as well. Not to mention I need to get my darn shop organized. I have crap everywhere!!!
We cleaned a couple of the benches off today. They've been a mess for months. I got one of the meatballs to move the scrap wood and voila' we found some workspace we forgot about. So, we're all in the same boat. Is the new big tool a surface planer?
@@themeat5053 I wish it was a surface planer, it's a big ars laser cutter, a really nice, one just don't know how to use them yet....
Woodpecker tools are also made in America. Strongsville Ohio.
Yessir! Love woodpeckers, a little pricey but excellent quality! Thanks for wqatching Indianzfan!
Is your t shirt for sale any were
Yes! There is actually a link the description for it! Thanks so much for watching kalkirby!
👊👍👍
Thanks so much for watching Slapjack2000!
I like Burt
Thank you! I've gotten a lot of hate for Burt in the comments. Bad thing is I've already recorded a video that has him in it again. :(. Thanks for watching Michael!
I'd misplace those pins with a day or two.
You know I wondered about that as well, would be nice if they had some sort of magnetic holder for them. Great point and thanks for watchign w9jim!
Recently purchased there small square lives in my apron love the scribe feature fits mechanical pencil perfect and I’m not worried about dropping it wish they made a bigger one speed square sized. Bought it specifically because it was made in US. Woodpeckers is so over priced it laughable.m
You know you bring up a n interesting point. I have a few tools like that and woodpeckers is one of them. They are so expensive that you feel worried to use them. Kind of defeats the purpose of being a tool doesn't it. Thanks so much for watching and sharing Lindsey!
Burt needs his own channel but not sure how long it would take for a YT suspension.
Pretty sure he would be blocked almost immediately. You should see the footage I didn't include from the Burt cam! :)
1:00 I really like American made things. Please people buy them.
I think the Malco eagle grip pliers are no longer made, I don't know why.
Thanks so much for sharing alexander! I appreciaete you watching! :)
Del Vee
Thanks for watching Patrickdonegan!
Dfm has been here for quite a while actualy....
Thanks so much for sharing and watchign novaneo!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork keep up your video buddy they are entertaining!
@@novaneo Thank you! I think a lot of people would disagree with you on entertaining, but i'm having fun, which is important! :). thanks again for watching!
Nice video but the so-called American tools from (DFM) are very expensive I just checked. Cheap tools from Asia will always be relevant because in America its all about making a buck. If small American companies would come together and form larger companies maybe they could produce affordable tools for the common person. You do a great presentation they owe you.
Thanks so much JTerry! I 100% agree with you. There has to be some middle ground in the pricing of the american made products. I think someone will figure it out. Maybe if one of the larger power tool companies or a company like empire would jump on board, there could be a great precision measuring lineup out there in the future!
The term "mils" is outdated and commonly mistaken for millimeters. DFM should drop it.
I just learned of this Mil measurment from this video, very interesting. Sounds like it stands for 1/1000th of an inch. Thanks for sharing and watching erischleppegrell!
14:32
hmmmm.... yes, that is the last second of the video!
I would lose that pin in a flat minute.
I know right! :). If they could just make an onboard storage for it with a magnet, that would be amazing! Thanks so much for watching Ken!
Is Chicago still considered America?
:). too funny! Thank you so much for watching ryan!
Why is American made so important? Been so long since the times when things were made here we have forgotten how. Work ethic of those lost times has vanished. Using a CNC to make squares can be done anywhere.
I agree this is a global marking these days. Those american made cars we drive on the road are made of parts and pieces from all over the world. My dad used to work for Cummins Engine, and a lot of his time was in china! I'd love to have a CNC to do stuff like that, on my wish list! :). Thanks for watching enigmaticunknown!
9:41 JEWS GROOVE???? What kind of nonsense is that! LOL.
Haha! Thanks for watching Jim!
The tools look like a good value except for the $110 mallet. That one seems overpriced.
I would agree with you there. I would say it would be priced better at about 30-40 bucks, but maybe there is something about how they make it that makes it more expensive. Thanks so much for watching Omnivorous!
6:05 32 millimeters is not the same as 32 mils.
Oh my, great catch! Since I don't work that often in metric, it didn't even cross my mind how thick that would have been! Thanks so much for bringing it up and thanks for watching mykamlima
I'm getting real tired of tools boasting the "feature" of a part of the tool you should use as a set up for saws and routers. Hey, I already bought a very good set of setup bars that I really like. Dont need your extra, but unneeded feature. Reminds me that every tool you buy that has moving parts comes with one or more hex keys. now I own about 60 of those pesky things.
I get it, simple is always best. I used to use one of those digital angle finders for my table saw blade to find 45 for a while, and then I began to realize why the heck am I using this contraption when I have a good old fashion speedsquare that I can see is perfectly 45. Now I'm back to old faithful with the speedsquare. Thanks for sharing and watching Jackspeer!
4:23 The pin is great idea... until you lose the pin. Then it's the worst idea ever.
That’s an excellent point Jim, someone else had mentioned that as well. It would be nice to have onboard storage for that pin, maybe with a magnet or something.
It’s hip to be square.
You said it best Paul! :) Thanks as always for watching!
Bryan, My comments are deleted a few seconds after they are posted. Thx.
That's weird, I wonder if it is an internet connection issue. I looked at comments that were held for review and didn't see any there (comments that use profanity etc.). Strange...
Wrong! DFM means Don't Floss Mouth! It's a dentist nightmare.
Haha! Oh nasty, I can only imagine what grows in between some peoples teeth. Especially Burts :) Thanks so much for watching Timothy!
Precision woodworking tools are overrated by pushing high precision tools that only benefits the tools sales. The craftsman is the one that achieves the precision and the quality of the piece. Let me examine one of those pieces and see if they don’t have any defects. The most renowned furniture pieces on exhibits today were created by tools less than perfect, for example, the Studley Tool Chest and tools… wow, what a craftsman… my friends concentrate in your craftmanship and not expending a fortune in tools that really won’t increase the quality of your work that you have ; acquire knowledge, experience, time and practice will bring you to perfection, then once achieved, buy the tools that compliment your skills.😊 put in your 10,000 hrs to achieve perfection.
Love this comment, I totally agree. I would consider myself a early intermediate woodworker, and I use so many of these precision tools and I"m still off in the end, but I'm getting better each project. Great point and thank you so much for sharing. It truly is amazing when I look at some of the antiques in my house. All done by hand, and I would love to see one of their squares. I would guess it is even worse than my most beat up framing square!
The chisels hammer looks like a sex toy.
😂. You said it not me, but now that you do!
I wish harbor freight would carry a made in the USA line of tools. I can no longer go in there and buy chinese stuff...
That would be nice wouldn't it! Always worth supporting american made tools. Just not too many of them out there anymore.
Why do the people who post on u tube think they have to do Hollywood crap
Sorry just having fun with this channel. That’s what this channel is all about.
@FlynndoggWoodwork sorry some time I jumped in and should not. I will try to be better and not a problem
@@garyaltman2113 It's all good. Some people like the stuff some don't. :)
