  • We test the Wilfa Svart Grinder. Will it be able to make a decent Aeropress? Can it produce a grind fine enough for espresso? (the manufacturer thinks not, be we try anyway). Most importantly, is it the best budget home coffee grinder on the market?

    That actually looks pretty good for the money

      I bought this grinder a couple of weeks ago and it’s perfect for my morning brew. I’ve used it for filter, V60, and Arropress and it’s been flawless.
      Static is a bit of a problem but a single drop of water in with the beans pretty much fixes that.

    greetings from Slovakia. I have moved from entry level hario hand grinder to wilfa svart and I am totally amazed by the results. Its 1000% worth the investment. Only downside is the static electricity it produces, but that can be countered by adding 3-5 drops of water to the beans before grinding. (sounds weird but works trust me :D )

      It's surprisingly good, especially given the price. Glad you like it! JP

    Most of us have pressurized baskets so the moka setting should probably be fine for espresso like drink

    I have a very good espresso grinder (Eureka Oro Mignon Stark) and I could use it for drip, but I would rather get a dedicated one for brews. I was thinking of this one.. but I'm leaning more towards the Eureka Mignon Crono so I can get parts from the same place, and also I can get it for 190€. Opinions welcome :)

      It's quite a bit more money for the Mignon Crono, so it's not an exact like for like comparison. This said, I do prefer flat burr grinders in terms of the coffee profile they produce, so if you can justify the extra money, the Mignon Crono may be the better bet. I haven't done a back to back with it and other grinders, though, so this isn't a definitive answer.

    would the finest setting grind fine enough for double shot Americano's with miik?

    • @TheCoffeeChannel
      @TheCoffeeChannel  Před měsícem +1

      Unfortunately not, as that's an espresso - based drink, so you'd still end up with an under-extracted coffee.

      @@TheCoffeeChannel thanks for confirming. I figured that would be the case which isa shame as it looks like its fairly easy to use which would make it ideal as im' less abled' so need something which i can manage with one hand

    Beats the DeLonghi KG89 in grinding speed and quality

    I've had that silver one and the later black model for about a decade at this point, they're great as long as you don't need one capable of doing espresso. (I have a hand grinder for that)
    I guess the finest setting might work for a pressurized portafilter?
    And yes, the grounds container is easily the worst thing about the grinder. I've been eyeing the new wilfa balance grinder mainly for that.

      Yeah - I was impressed enough with it to buy my father one for making coffee with his V60. Extremely good for the money! JP

      Is the black one worth the 20 pound price jump?

    • @amafi_poe
      @amafi_poe Před rokem

      @@47pricey Not sure tbh. I bought the silver one in 2011 or something I think? had that for 4 years before it died, and have had the black one since then, I can't really think of any big differences. I think they claim the black one's quieter, but it's been so long I honestly couldn't tell you. They both do the job well and the construction is damn near identical as far as I can tell.
