The Only 3 Watches You Really Need | Beginner Watch Collection for Men
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 15. 08. 2024
- Here's a budget friendly watch collection that consists of just three watches and costs less than $500 total (for all three). If you want to have a watch for every occasion (casual, business casual, formal, etc.), but you don't want to (or can't) spend a ton of money buying watches, this is the perfect watch collection for you.
01:41 Timex Weekender - geni.us/3yxA50y
03:12 Seiko SKX013 - geni.us/W7ob8
05:10 Dress (Better than The 5th) - geni.us/4FpmT (Amazon)
If you have some extra cash and want to expand your watch collection, I recommend adding a fourth watch that's totally different than the first three (like my all black watch from The 5th), or buying some extra straps for your watches that have interchangeable bands.
Remember: no matter your budget, it's a good idea to have a watch for every occasion, especially formal occasions. You can always upgrade your watches later on, so there's nothing wrong with buying affordable watches right now.
Of course, if money isn't an issue and you don't mind spending it on watches, you could always buy higher end versions of these three watches - casual, dive and dress.

In my opinion, the Timex and the Seiko, yes. The flimsy looking The Fifth watches are just trendy fashion watches that will fall out of style quickly.
Patrick Lau Nope. Timeless designs never go out of style regardless of manufacturing quality. Fashion watches are here to stay and generally, they are considered to be much more attractive than japanese and swiss watches.
Right on the nose. And you can't really teach people who believe that fashion watches are worth the money when they are not. They just have to find out for themselves when one day they look at that drawer full of junky watches and realize that they could have bought a few grown-up watches and been set.
@@Ferien7 "Fashion watches are here to stay" may be the most odd statement I read online this week. It's kind of an oxymoron, taken as a phrase.
Laurens Arthur One very simplistic alternative is the Junghans Max Bill version. I think its impossible to find the design of fashion watches unpleasing to the eye. However, their design can also just be called straight up lazy. The Junghans Max Bill is a watch with horological history, designed by the famous minimalist artist Max Bill. Take a look at the Junghans please, because whilst much more expensive they offer so much more in a watch compared to the average MVMT or DW watch.
@@cobbler88 Unless, of course you get burned by a few overrated âgrown up watchesâ.
Diver: orient mako ii - 170
Dress: seiko sarb - 300
Casual: seiko 5 - 50
Just over 500 but you're getting real watches. Don't spend 150 on a plated watch with a cheap 3$ Miyota Quartz movement
Great list
No reason not to keep the SKX on that list as the diver. Who cares if it's Seikocentric?
or a bambino for the dress one
Yeah, the Bambino is half the cost of the sarb, and it still has hand winding and hacking. I love mine.
You can tell the watch people who prefer mechanical to quartz! I agree though, my MAKO USA ii is amazing and I have an expensive Tissot as my dress. Seiko 5 is great casual.
Casual: Seiko 5 SNK line $50-$75
Diver: Seiko SKX or Orient Mako $160-$220
Dress: Orient Bambino or Seiko SARB $120-$330
rdw19 what's wrong with his suggestions?
Ferien7 The Fifth are cheap Chinese watches that cost $1 to built and are sold for $100. Itâs obvious he doesnât know anything about watches. If you went to Teddy Baldassarreâs channel he details it better than I can, but the Fifth, Daniel Wellington, and MVMT are all the same fashion watches being sold to gullible customers thinking theyâre getting something quality made.
I prefer the Orient Ray 2
best budget dress watch is the Orient Bambino
David Childers bambinos suck. Mineral glass, odd case size, wrong lug width (horrible design choice as you cannot change the strap), not minimalistic enough. Very overhyped watch.
21mm isn't "wrong," it's just uncommon for lugs. eBay has you covered with plenty of 21mm straps... So saying that you "cant change the strap" is just a naked lie.
Odd case size? They're 41mm. Unless you're complaining that 41 is an odd number (and please tell me you're not), the Bambino fits almost all men's wrists.
Not minimalistic enough? Indices, chapter ring, Dauphine hands, date window. Is that too much? Or should we all just wear Movados?
Enlighten us Ferien7: give me an automatic dress watch for $150 with sapphire crystal that blows a Bambino out of the water.
Jason The Watch Nerd I have a Movado :(
Exactly Jason, this Ferien7 moron is simply just tired of seeing an amazing watch getting the recognition it deserves. He's unhappy with life, that's all.
Bambino's look like old man watches.
My recommendations for 3 budget friendly watches:
Casual: almost any Timex watch (Weekender is a great choice) and Seiko 5 series watches
Diver: any Seiko diver
Dress: Orient Bambino
(I have 1 Seiko, 1 Timex, 1 Tudor, and 1 Rolex watch)
Casioal
saboss What?
Invicta Pro Diver is also a great entry level diver. Specially the 8926OB. Great seiko movement, affordable at $85 (don't buy it for that, there's tons of deals where it goes for around $60 and below)
This guy is the real deal. He doesn't cut corners or makes false promotions. Keep it up.
Did you just compare my beloved Seiko to a Camry?
YOU TAKE THAT BACK.
+Erik Warnes I mean...it's no Lexus đŹ
The Modest Man A Seiko is not pretentious or ugly enough to be a Lexus, and not boring or dull enough to be a camry. its more like a Focus or Civic: Super affordable and an amazing performer for the money. Or maybe, dare I say it, a modern Hyundai: way more than you expected for the money.
great video, by the way! And the Timexes are really quite good, especially for the price.
Now that you mention, a modern Hyundai is the perfect comparison. Surprisingly awesome.
Interested in wood wrist watches?
Erik Warnes Agreed
Dress: vintage Omega constellation $300
Casual: Seiko 5 SRPK $150
Sport: Definitely the Seiko SKX diver $180
Yes its over but u can get the used Seikos for less to fall in the 500 budget. All serious automatic watches with minimal fluff.
Casual: timex weekender Chrono ( my favorite)
Beater: any casio/ g shock watches (but my favorite is the classic and cheap casio f-21w)
- as someone who work at sea, this is the ultimate watch for me. Cheap lightweight and for the price, it is suprisingly sturdy. Given how cheap it is, there is no problem having extras.
Dress: orient bambino
Hey Brock, these collection type videos are some of favorite videos of yours. the reason why is because it offers to me, as a viewer, the chance to see what a dapper, modest man wears in real life. Also I appreciate you channel because many of the clothes you choose apply to me at 5' 5".
Thanks, Andrew! Will work on more of these.
It's in the 37 range. Wears much smaller than most 40mm watches. It's great for small wrists.
I've never taken my Weekender in water, so I can't really say. If water resistance is important, I'd go with whichever has higher ratings for that.
Andrew Clark how about the rest of us six seven with a nine inch round wrist anything under a fifty two looks a little silly
I am in the same boat...as I am 6'6" and an ex-football player, with a 23 cm wrist. I mainly wear 50-52 mm watches...which is usually a G Shock, or a Diesel. Diesel is sold on Amazon dot com and they have some pretty cool looking watches for under $200. For a dress watch, you can always get a rectangular shaped watch. Bulova, Seiko, Swiss Legend, Eterna and others all make nice looking watches that are pretty reasonably priced. I like the rectangular shape because they do have a classy look to them.
Even cheaper way to go, without sacrificing too much quality:
Everyday:
Seiko SNK807 (or really any other Seiko 5 for a little more)
$73.98
Dress:
Orient bambino version 2
$114.99
Beater:
Casio G-Shock GMW5610-1
$92.68
Some people prefer a cheap diver for their beater/sports watch. But I personally love the style of this G-Shock (very minimal and small compared to normal G-Shocks you see daily) and it is packed to the brim with features. Of course these are all just my opinion. Part of the fun of Horology is seeing how peopleâs taste in watches differ from yours!
Perfect
Thank you!
Nice
Diver: Orient Kamasu - $230
I love this watch, as the amount of watch you get for this price is unbelievable. A completely in-house F6922 automatic movement, which is extremely reliable and packed with hand-winding and hacking. Majority of other automatic watches at this price point to not offer a sapphire crystal, let alone a diver.
Casual: Seiko SNK809 - $70
This was my very first automatic watch, and I wear it nearly everyday as it is extremely versatile, has a very reliable movement, and it can't be beaten at this price.
Dress: Orient Bambino (Gen 2 V1) - $130
Again, a completely in-house movement with hacking and hand winding, a very attractive design (cream dial with roman numerals, with blue hands is my fav), and again, a hell of a lot of watch for the money.
Just my personal list but I think a lot of people would have similar choices.
I had the SNK for a while...great little watch. Wish the Bambino came in smaller sizes đ
The Modest Man Yeah I agree. The bambino is a beautiful watch but itâs a little bit big, especially for a dress watch.
I owned 21 watches. I loved Casios. I wanted to be seen with a different watch every day. But I got bored with the cheapos, and when I learned about battery leaks I de-commissioned all of them (except the classic Swiss Army watch) by removing the batteries. I recently bought two Seikos and became "married" to them, forsaking all others. The Only Three Watches I Really Need:
1. Every Day - Seiko SKX 013 K1. For me, the perfect watch because it's beautiful, masculine, respectable and washable.
2. Dress - Seiko SUP880. Bigger and more beautiful than the Cartier Tank. And it's solar!
3. Field Watch - Swiss Army watch. I seldom wear it anymore, but it's a classic and it's been all over the world with me for 30 years.
I like this take on watch collecting. I would recommend the Seiko 5 SNK809 as the casual watch ($55), a Orient Bambino 1 as the dress watch ($95), and a Orient Mako 2 or an Orient Ray 2 for the diver (~$180 - $190). The SKX is a highly popular dive watch, sports the 7S26 Seiko movement (Seiko's workhorse), and is an icon in it's own right; it's not a bad watch to have, however I'd much prefer the hacking/handwinding movement of the Orient Ray 2 or Mako 2 (similar to Seiko's 4R36 movement). All of these watches are automatics, which is what I prefer, but to each his/her own.
Great video and great thoughts on watch collecting! Keep up the good work!
WeaverJ576 if you want a more unique diver, go with the skx but if you want a better movement in the watch, Orient got you covered with the mako 2
CASIO G-SHOCK MTG-B1000D-1A is a little bit more expensive, but one watch can do it all and you get an insanely durable watch.
Diver: Orient Kamasu or Seiko Skx
Dress: Orient Bambino or Citizen NH8350
Casual: Timex Expedition or Seiko 5 snk809
Beater: Casio G-shock or Timex Ironman
I'm a watch collector and here's my take on this video:
if you don't have a big budget skip the casual watch. You don't really need one.
Buy a diver instead; because these can be worn with anything (casually or for formal events).
If you already have a diver buy a dress watch next (to mix it up).
That's it. That's literally all you need.
Once you save up some money you can then buy yourself what I like to call an "heirloom" piece.
A watch that's good enough to be given away as an heirloom. One of my personal favorites is the Omega Seamaster. This watch is the only watch that's approved for space travel by NASA. It's also the only watch that has been to space. This watch is almost indestructible (it's really sturdy and looks amazing). And best of all it's not too expensive; you can get one for a really good price if you buy it second hand. Rolex watches are nice too but IMHO they're a little bit too flashy. Omegas are more affordable.
Great advice, thanks!
AntonioKowatsch speedmaster, not seamaster. About it being worn in space I mean.
www.uniquewatchguide.com/space-watches/
So much wrong information lol.
First of you meant the Speedmaster not seamaster.
also there have been many watches in space, also the speedmaster is not even the first in space, but first on the moon.
The first watch in space was the poljot strela.
Also Bulova, Sinn, Fortis also have all been to space.
AntonioKowatsch yeah the seamaster is a dive watch and never went to space. that was the speedmaster, secondly what he probably meant by a casual watch is a beater watch. not everybody is okay with scuffing their 200Dollar watch, for some people that's serious money. And Speedmaster isn't indestructible, the model they sell to the common man is not the same as the one that went to space, bar the few limited edition pieces.
I would add one more item to this list and bring the budget up to $500. Every collection needs a beater. That is, a watch that is designed to take a beating! A $10 Casio will do the job!
Kieron Rowe no, watches are fashion accessories nowadays, so any activity in which looking decent isnât required (sports, gym, home, etc) wearing a watch isnât needed.
You could do the weekender, invicta pro diver, orient bambino, and also throw in a g shock to have a good beater digital watch for a total of around 300. It's what I would recommend to start a watch collection on a budget.
The problem with buttoning the cuff with a thick watch is a great thing to note and something I think alot of guys forget about.
For anyone looking to start a modest watch collection but don't want to break the bank yet still be able to match a variety of outfits and occasions, Seiko is definitely a good place to start.
Seiko is f... Overpriced. Orient is a better option
@@Drhomelander Doesnât Seiko own Orient?
The seiko is the best, i own a skx007, the bulky one, one of the best watch under 200$
Hard to argue with a $30 Timex. Seiko SKX is a great buy. But you will get laughed out of the boardroom wearing that dress watch. How about a nice vintage OMEGA Seamaster for under $350? Or a Seiko SARB033 if you want to buy new. Major upgrade.
Not a dress watch, but I'm looking at the Hamilton Khaki as my next casual auto.
Hamilton makes great stuff. High grade movements, very attractive. You'll love it
A vintage Omega Seamaster without subdials looks more like a dress watch than an "actual" dress watch.
Hamiltons are expensive in my place. Anyone here got advice for a good deal with free international shipping? Other than Amazon.com
The Critical Gentleman where do u find a omega seamaster under 350?
Iâd add a digital sports watch like a Casio G-Shock or maybe a Timex Duro as a 4th watch. I own a lot of watches of varying prices, style and design. Couldnât agree more about the Timex Weekender. Itâs pretty much my âgo toâ watch, despite being 1/100 of the cost of some of my other pieces.
Thank-you. The Timex Weekenders are also excellent for those who have vision issues, like presbyopia (reading glasses). Itâs not just all about youthful fashion!
Donât really watch these type of vids but just wanted to say youâre a cool guy man
Casual/Everyday "Beater": Rolex - Explorer w/ an assortment of bands (Classic/Business) and/or Casio - G-Shock that fits your style, *Mudmaster for me (Modern/Tactical)
Diver/Sport: Omega - Seamaster Professional, Planet Ocean Chronograph (If you only buy one watch in your life, it should be a watch of this caliber.)
Dress/Luxury: Cartier - Tank and/or Bvlgari - BVLGARI Chronograph (Formal/Black tie jewelry for men.)
Most men only wear 2 pieces of jewelry in their lives, a wedding ring, and a watch. Live a little, and invest in quality pieces that will last a lifetime (and can be passed down as heirlooms.)
If it must be inexpensive/budget...
Casual: Seiko - 5 ($50-150)
Diver: Seiko - SKX ($175-250)
Dress: Seiko - SARB ($350-400)
Yes. They are all Seikos. If that bugs you then tell Seiko to stop making absurdly high-quality watches for every price point.
Also, yes, their combined retail prices are over the $500 budget. Deal w/ it. If you refuse to pay more than $500, then wait for a major sale to make your purchases (or buy used/vintage.)
casual - snk803 on nato
diver - skx013 stainless steel
dress - snkL23 on black leather
Just saw this now and found it funny cos i have the exact same watches in my rotation. Giving a lot of love for seiko đ
i have been looking for a decent watch for almost all occasions and eventually bought a seiko sarb. great movement and overall quality. it looks dressy on a leather strap and casual (but not too casual) on a nato strap or the metal strap it comes with.
picking an extra "everyday" watch is nonsense in my opinion - a good watch survives everyday use (when you are not a doing particularly hard work) and looks great in all situations.
Just go skx and sarb033, it'll be pushing it on price but no Quartz and both unbelievable bang for the buck. Oriant bambino for dress. Overall a much better selection than most non watch based youtubers.
haha they are the only watches I own.
Yep!
^^^^this. The fifth is crap
Skx is soo ugly. Can't you pick a better looking diver?
What's wrong with quartz
My Opinion
1. Silver metal watch (For dress clothes)
2. Brown leather watch (for dress or casual)
3. Rubber straps watch (sometimes bright straps for casual or light sports)
4. Digital watches like G Shock or any with a timer (For sports)
Also you could have a couple of watches for different categories to much your outfit. Changing Blue, Red and white watches with these colours of straps for different outfits look pretty cool. My personal experiences with these watches is I would get compliments and approached by different people.
Casual: Seiko SNK809
Diver: Orient Ray II
Dress: Orient Maestro
Brock, I like your content but you can get away with one watch for any/all occasions (a simple Seiko or Timex with 3 hands) the key is simplicity coupled with bracelet/strap selections. NATO or rubber for the beach, metal for casual up to but NOT including a suit and leather for more formal attire. One watch with a few straps for much less than $400.
Awesome! While I am a taller guy, your advice in this case applies to men at any height. I am an older guy trying to dress better and find your videos very educational. My budget is somewhat modest, but will splurge on a a nice suit or shoes whenever I can afford to. I needed advice on watches, so I thank you my friend!
I have a Seiko SNK809 for the casual, a Fossil dive watch which I am unsure of the exact kind, and an Orient Bambino for a dress watch.
The only 4th category I'd add is a tactical watch for bug in home defense situations, or travelling to iffy parts of the world. A rugged, trusty blacked out digital watch that can tell you all you need, take a beating, will barely reflect any external light and won't draw unwanted attention of robbers.
Dude you only need 2 watches, Diver and Dress watch, Diver watch can be worn on Casual.
Think it's more about the diver being so different than the "casual" watch with a nato strap or plastic/silicone. Good to have two options.
Leather strap nice casual watch > diver
Great point.
@@Ferien7 leather straps are fucking ugly compared to steelbracelets imo, i just don't get it.
Diver, dress watch.. and digital watch.. and an aviator.. and a field, and chronograph.. okay, perhaps I have a watch problem. đ đ
Thanks for the video. Nevermind negative comments keep the videos coming. I like your video. Thumbs up
Honestly, you don't really need a watch at all - by now, they're luxury items, and an outfit can still be complete even without a watch. That said, I think if you really like wearing watches, you still don't have to drop too much money - especially if you're willing to pick quartz pieces.
As far as casual watches go, it's hard to go wrong with Timex, even 4+ years later; the Weekender is still available at a great price of around $50.
I think the Casio Duro is a great dive watch at around $50, as is the Invicta Pro Diver (despite Invicta's notoriety). In particular, Pro Divers are available around that price with automatic movements, and quartz versions cost slightly less. - though I've heard that the Duro's quality is better for diving.
I'm looking around for a dress watch, and the Orient Capital looks great (currently available on Amazon for about $70). I'm not sure how The 5th stands, but their watches are likely functional and reliable enough, though looking at their website, the pieces seem to be priced around $150 - a little steep for me. That said, I hear they donate a portion of their profits to charity, which is genuinely admirable.
That's a total of about $170 (admittedly not counting tax or shipping). Beyond those 3 roles, I'm very partial to my Casio MTP4500D-1AV, a solid chronograph featuring a slide rule bezel(!) for around $60. I also think you may as well pick up a Casio F91-W, which is available for about $15.
Me personally:
Casual: Casio Edifice 5344 $80
Dress: Tissot Quickster Chronograph
Beater/ Diver: Gshock 5230
Great video, I recently purchased the Sieko SKX 013 and I love it. Like you I have smaller wrists and other Seikos and Orients are too big. The 013 is a very affordable diver for people with smaller wrists.
I also have the Timex Weekender. It makes a great work watch and looks really nice. Its one downside is that it doesn't have the date. However, I find that in most of the situations I wear it in that isn't an issue.
You can make a good Matthew McConaughey impression.
Casual: Casio Oceanus T200 or Longines Conquest VHP
Diver: Yema Superman Heritage Quartz or Seiko Prospex Padi Quartz SNE435 Solar
Dress: Seiko Premier SKP391P1 (40.7mm case and only 6.3mm thick! Sapphire!) or Tissot PRX.
Because your casual watch should be your BEST watch. You'll wear it most often. And most people (well, speaking for myself here) only need a dress watch occasionally.
I really liked this video. Itâs good to see someone talking about watches that are affordable! Thanks for the video
CZcams just suggested you. Very please with this video and now liking and subscribing
Cheers
I appreciate that, my friend! Glad YT is showing me some love too.
My to go list:
Diver's: Seiko Bloody Monster
Dress: Orient Esteem Open Heart/Orient Bambino Gen 2 (White dial, blue hands for both)
Casual: Either of them
This three category idea is nice! I agree with dress and casual as being two of them. But I would call the third category the general term of exploring watch. It can be a diver, a pilot, a military, or ... .
Agreed. I've been calling this category "sport" for lack of a better term.
I would get a Seiko SNK809 as casual, a Casio MDV106 quartz as diver, a Sekko SNK789 with a leather strap as a dress watch (not very thin but with a 37mm case it wears small) and a Casio F91W or F105W as a "dirty works/don't care if it breaks" watch.
This is under $200 and gets you 2 automatics for daily and dress and 2 rugged quartzs as sports/diver and "disponsable" watches.
Add a smartwatch for your other wrist if you want to reach the $500 pricepoint for your collection!
hamilton khaki mechanical 250 , citizen promaster diver eco drive 150 , orient bambino 100 . I think those three would be good choices as well . great vid , thumbs up.
Excellent choices.
Joe Sax
Hamilton Khaki watches are beautiful đđŒ
Orient bambino and Skx007 or 013 best two budget entry level watches on market
I'm a 4 watch kind of guy.
Casual: Hamilton Khaki auto.
Diver: Orient Kamasu.
Dress: Citizen Corso on a leather strap.
Beater: Casio GW2310FB-1CR
my list would be
Casual : Seiko SNK809 $50 ~
Diver / Sport : Seiko SNZF47 $100 ~
Dress : Orient Bambino v4 $120~
Total : $270 ~
Solid.
Nice entry video into watches. I'm not a believer in having to have watches for certain occasions but you can't go wrong with the Weekender, or Timex Expedition Scout and the SKX is one of the best sub $500 watches you can buy. As for a dress watch (which I think can also be worn at any time) I'd opt for something vintage. An Omega is my choice and isn't a great deal more. You would need to have a smaller wrist though.
Dress watch, casual watch and sporty one.
Don't need the diver..
The SKX013 is a fantastic choice at any price, great size too.
Weekender-Victorinox chrono
Dive watch-Omega Seamaster America's Cup
Dress watches- Rolex Datejust stainless steel, Tag Heuer Monoco.
Second weekender, Casio G-shock
another dress watch-Baum & Mercier Hampton
Brad Dumon and all these are under $500?
Alternatively get Seiko snk809 as casual, Orient Bambino as dress and Orient Mako, Ray 2 as diver
Coincidentally, got a Seiko diver the day I watched this video :D
My own 3-watch collection:
Diver - Orient Ray II
Casual - Seiko 5 SNXS77
Dress - Orient Bambino Gen 2
So many of the Men's Style channels give me these long winded expectations of items and clothing I MUST have. What I like about your videos is that you make these guidelines more solid and easy to understand! Thanks a lot Brockđ ;)
+Andrew Thomson thanks, Andrew!
I admire your first two choices, not just because I have two similar watches, but I think these are both good quality for the money. However, your choice of the Fifth as your third watch I totally disagree with, as this is a $20 Chinese watch sold for $150. If you hunted around for most of these âstyleâ watches, you can find the exact same watch, minus the logo, on Amazon for less than $50. My third choice would be an Orient Bambino, which is a very well-made, very stylish watch available in numerous styles and colors, for $130 or less. Also, any Seiko or Timex for under $100 is a better watch than the Fifth. Even Citizen or Invicta, for the most part, are better.
Of course, to each his own, and some people are happy to spend $150 for a $20 watch that they like. Itâs your money, so spend it as you please!
Check out my latest video (uploaded today) to see how far Iâve come with watch collecting since this vid. Thanks for the polite comment btw!
When you need a dress watch you should get good quality, pairing 300⏠suit with a watch that costs literally 3$ on Alibaba is just a crime
A steel bracelet watch is the most versatile. Orient makes a great one, Seiko has a few as do Citizen in automatic and quarz. If you want to go Swiss, Oris makes fantastic pieces that are not on the ridiculous side of pricing.
I LOVE my Seiko SRPG27. You can dress it up or down with different bands. Itâs a do everything watch. I got into collecting watches a bit but I ended up selling the rest of my watches because I only wanted to wear that one.
Before I got into watches, I had the same old watch for about 10 years ($60 40mm Swiss Pulse Elite Dive like quartz watch), It came with a steel bracelet and I got a James Bond-esq Nato Strap for Hiking/Sports and a Black leather Strap for Dress purposes, it literally stayed on the wrist for years, it told the time. It was relegated to dress duty when I got my first G-Shock and was given a few watches by the family (Inherited a 9ct gold Tissot Seaster mechanical with a wine red crocodile leather strap from my grandad and my dad gave me his Tag Heuer Professional 2000 Automatic with a steel strap, these were beautiful watches and really the two watches that got me into "semi" collecting and lusting over the Swiss made variety. Now I prefer wearing Seiko (Currently Seiko SKX 007 Automatic with the blue and red Pepsi Basel). A fantastic watch.
Casual: hamilton khaki field
Diver: Orient mako 2
Dress: Tissot everytime
That would be my basic collection.
Sam Dylan That would be way over $500 though lol
SKX for Diver; Seiko 5 for casual, I have a Movado white face slim as my dress watch.
Longines Legend Diver. Yes, it's a little over $1000 used, but in my opinion, it can switch from classy, sporty, and casual by a simple strap change.
You also need a gym/beater watch: the Casio G-shock!
Brandon Nesbitt if you want to look like a geek
Or Casio duro. I like the duro better because it keeps that diver look and substance for under 50$
Yes, instead of the Weekender.
Casio F-91w
@@Ferien7 you need to go outside more bud
While I do love the Timex Weekender, I think that for about the same price ($50 on amazon), you're better off with the Seiko 5 (SK809) which is also an automatic watch.
+alejandro vergara I've got a SNK805 and love it. Power reserve sucks, though, so be ready to use a winder or reset it a lot (assuming you don't want to wear it daily).
The Modest Man how do you do that? I just ordered mine today and should get it tomorrow (amazon prime). I have an SKX as my diver watch and haven't had any issues at all with power reserve, granted I wear almost everyday or every other day.
+alejandro vergara nice, love the SKX. I've just noticed that the SNK stops if I don't wear it for one day (sometimes less). If I take it off in the afternoon, for example, it will be dead the next morning.
The Modest Man sounds to me like there is something wrong with the watch. It has the exact same movement as the skx
Nice I love watches
i only own Steinhart OVM, and i wear it on any occasions. Just change the strap to leather or nato then youre basically good to go. Diver watch is the go-to watch
I already have weekender and I have a DW that is the same color (both bracelet and face) has your the fifth dress one. I also wanted a black on black watch. I guess we have similar thoughts on watches. Great vid thanks
+sophisticated you know what they say: "great minds buy the same watches"
Finnaly i found a favorite youtube channel. This is the first - so far the only - reason to turn on my youtube notifications. It's modern, minimalistic yet so chic. God, where have i been? Keep on the good job, Brock!
Casual(definitly can double as a drees watch) -Hamilton Khaki King (400$)
Diver Seiko SKX007,SKX9 (200$) or Orient Ray II---Mako II (180$)
Dress Orieant Bambino 2nd gen (140$) Or Tissot Visodate (500$) (Tissot can double as casual alsow)
So all in al is closer to 1k than 500$ but you have all automatic ,all respoctable swiss or japanese automaic s ,and wathes ,with regular basic maitance ,that you can pass on to nex generation(ofc if that is your thing ,kids and stuff :) )
Iâm 13 and Iâm wanting to get a Japanese Quartz Seiko Watch with a metal band but I feel like if I wear it to school itâs gonna be too much, opinions?
great video.. loved the choice of watches
+ramesh cs thanks for watching!
I've been thinking of getting a timex watch because it's so affordable. I just cant decided what strap I want dark brown or black.
+EricsMode why not both??
The Modest Man I wish
You know you can just get an aditional strap for a few bucks and change it easily when you want without buying 2 actual watches right?
You might as well go with 4 watches for $500 and add "the beater", Casio F91W. Probably the best watch for around the house, office, manual labor, sport activities, drinking night. It's so light and low profile, it's like you don't even have it on your wrist, pretty durable, but if you break it, you can get another one right away. More than that, it's a trip in the past. You'll definitely get some nods from 90s generation.
Personally I own a small collection of high end watches (Rolex and so on), and my best advice is 'Seiko 5'
sound advice for those new to watches. great video.
Thanks!
Curious about your ability to judge whether it really is that sound, considering you are new? Doesn't make much sense to me
Interested in wood watches?
Im blowing up your notifications today lol im starting my collection over!!! I agree this are the 3 you need thanks for the knowledge
Dress-seiko presage âNegroniâ
Day 2 Day-Casio âRoyaleâ
Diver-Vostok Amphibia
Trophy watch-Carl F Bucherer
Manero Auto Date
Great topic!!!! My current collection is...
casual: Timex Waterbury World Time $160 (for going out with the kids); Marathon U.S. Gov't with plastic case $300 (I fly and I need the tritium illumination in the dark cockpit and the 12-hour bezel for Zulu time); Invicta stainless $100 (beater for gardening, sports)
dress: Walthum gold-plated hand-wind refurbished ($100); Skagen titanium thin-line, blue dial $60; Seiko quartz in silver stainless $100 (someday: Grand Seiko if my ship comes in)
inbetween: I don't like divers, as I don't dive--seems pretentious, at least to me. Seiko 5 automatic $180 (plan to replace with a Hamilton automatic someday)
I'd like to add a dedicated sports watch, like the Timex Ironman, or the Casio G-Shock.
A cheap alternative to Seiko are Invicta dive watches; decent sub mariner homage, a few of which are 100 something bucks or under, love nato straps for my timex watches too.
I got the Timex :D
I have Seiko SKX007 + Rodina ST17 R005 watches. SKX though works for anything, except suits.. But I can wear it with a suit too. The Rodina is more classy and smaller so its dressier, can wear that for formal situations if want to.
Diver - Tissot Seastar 1000 (Automatic)
Dress/Casual - Tissot PRC200 (Quartz or Automatic)
Still one of my best collection till date.
Great video mate!
Great to see that watches are getting more and more popular again.
Keep it up.

GAW
Hello, shall we add friend on facebook? my fb: facebook.com/eirc.alon.9
Replace the Timex and Fifth with a real watch such as the SARB033 and Orient Bambino and you're good to go.
Timex is a real watch. It's quartz for sure but the company has some real history to it and the quality is certainly there
Timex is a quality watch, don't know about the fifth
I find Timex quality to be hit or miss - I've gotten a couple that were DOA. The price is right though, and if you find a decent quality one, it's a nice way to go. The confident man doesn't need a high profile watch to showoff, just one that works well. Of course you may also want something more appropriate to respect the occasion, but that's more of an exception.
Optidorf Bambinos suck. Mineral glass, odd case size, wrong lug width (horrible design choice as you cannot change the strap), not minimalistic enough. Very overhyped watch.
Also, the sarb033 is plain ugly. Seiko and swiss watch companies need to get with the times and make more attractive watches.
Another self proclaimed menâs fashion expert online also pushes 5th watches pretty hard. Thereâs a good chance theyâre sponsoring this nonsense.
My Top 3 "Watches You Really Need":
Dress Watch: Orient Bambino 2nd Gen. 2nd Ver. (FAC00009N0) = $175
Diver Watch: Orient Ray II (FAA02005D9) = $167
Casual Watch: Seiko 5 Automatic (SNZG15) = $97
Total = $439
Cheaper than the total of the watches shown in the video.
And if you want to add a chronograph: Casio Aviation Quartz Chronograph (MTP4500D-1AV) = $44 or
Seiko MecaQuartz Chronograph (SNN241) = $99 or
Seiko Quartz Chronograph (SNDC89P2) = $100
Total = $483 or $538 or $539
My causal watch is Rolex GMT master II (Batman), dive watch is IWC aqua timer in rose gold, it said it can go in suit right after diving. and my dress watch is Patek Philippe calatrava. I love them.
Your vid was suggested to me - I can see you put a great deal of thought and effort into your channel. I'm sure you'll do well here on YT. My 2 cents for viewers: for the same budget, do some homework and get a (mechanical) watch you love - something in the dress or diver categories - and then dress it down with a Nato strap (or other strap) for the more casual situations. Now you've got the start to a real collection, not just throw away pieces.
Solid advice.
Interested in wooden wrist watch?
I would say just buy one good watch instead of 3 mediocre watches.
+Lauro Padilla you consider the skx mediocre?
The Modest Man I did not expect a reply from the main man
himself to be honest. I must say I love your content. I guess I should have mentioned that the Seiko was the only watch I liked. The rest are as I said before mediocre. For 480 you can easily get a great used Omega. One quality timepiece is all you need in my opinion.
+Lauro Padilla I hear ya. Check out my latest watch collection vid. I think to more in line with your mindset. I was just getting into watches when I made this one. Thanks for watching man!
The Modest Man I sure will. You have a good one!
Lauro Padilla omega seamaster
Seagull Ocean Star diver and Seagull retrograde flying wheel dress watch. Vostok Amphibia for casual beater. Well under $500.
I also have a vintage a Seiko 5 with the 6309 movement for a spare casual. One watch would be the Ocean Star. I sometimes wear a vintage Raketa 2609ha with a dual layer brown and cream dial on a brown strap. The Seiko and the
Raketa are nearly 60 years old.
If you are smaller wristed a 35mm easy reader will work as well or better than a weekender. For a dive watch SEIKO is a great choice.Orient Bambino is another good dress watch.
Great tips!
Fix you collar it looks rather off
Also If I were you I would forget about the V. Wear your seiko instead, even with a suit
Seriously? V is another "REVOLUTIONARY AFFORDABLE LUXURY" rebranded aliexpress 10$ trash sold for 100-200$. Get a Bambino for that money and call it a day.
Casual: seiko snk803 ($80)
Dress: seiko snxs73 ($80)
Dive: Turtle dark manta ($300)
Then start collecting straps
