I don't know why, but I wasn't surprised that the Penguin speaks Spanish. He just seems like the kind of guy who picks up skills here and there. All the more reason not to underestimate him.
I mean it makes sense running some illegal operations he would pick up a few languages here and there.

I completely agree. Colin Farrell definitely stole the show in this scene. And since this is a Batman movie, what’s funny is that he was originally going to play Batman in a movie that was set to come out in 2004 but got canceled. That movie was Batman vs. Superman, not to be confused with Zack Snyder‘s movie with almost the same name.

Honestly this was the scene that actually made me respect this version of the Penguin. Most of this scene he isn’t trying to mess with them at all and seems genuinely disgusted when he sees what happened to Gordon’s partner. It’s an interesting little way to inject more complexity into his character while also moving the plot along.
The actor was on point with this Penguin. Also, he stole the whole movie.

1:01 Is so funny because the Penguin is a mobster and has probably seen horrific deaths, but acts grossed out by the picture 😂
His gang most likely just kill people by strangling, shooting or stabbing them and haven't done it in gruesome ways and not used to seeing faces eaten by rats.
He’s a mobster but he ain’t no psychopath that would kill anyone in a brutal way like the riddler did
There is a difference between the mob and a cartel. A mob will murder you and or your family. A cartel will do it slowly, take pictures, and beat off while it's happening.

After seeing the demo footage and the first time he fully wore the makeup, he actually scared me. Man turned into The Penguin.

To be honest, that scene really gets me with Gordon. This version is really fierce on both sides and kind of human too. And that Spanish error scene made me intrigued with what outcome to that after the interrogation.
the actor playing gordon seems like someone doing a parody of a police commissioner stereotype in this scene. the guy who yells "YOURE A LOOSE CANNON AND YOURE OFF THE FORCE!".

The penguin in this movie perfectly captures a lot of the wacky, zany humour that offsets the dark and gritty world of Batman. Hope we get more of him in the next movie.

A lot of times they just change the language completely. I don't know if that was the case for Batman, but a lot of times if there's let's say a Spanish phrase then in Spanish dub they'll change it to French or something. Unless of course there're relevant Spanish speaking characters
Can you explain this to me like I'm 5? I really can't understand what's the difference between el and la... I've read the el is for masculine and la is feminine but how can you tell if it is masculine or feminine? (If it's just a word)
@@grumpyeverytime It's random. Some word are masculine and some word are feminine (in french, rat is always masculine and mouse is always feminine... even when they are the opposite gender).
Gordon and Batmam were on a wrong lead : they thought the riddle was about finding who is the "rata alada". Even if "rata alada" was meant for batman, the actual riddle was to find that "you are el" can be read "URL". And the mistakes between "el" and "la" was just a clue
One thing I love about this scene is at the end of it (which was sadly cut off) is that with Penguin’s feet tied together, he forced to waddle over like an actual penguin.
That and the fact he walks like a penguin throughout the entire film, no?!
Plus the wide angle reveals that he’s wearing some hefty heels

At first I was iffy about his more "New York mob" sounding voice for Penguin but it worked.
One of the things I think is absolutely brilliant about this movie is, if you think about it, this movie also serves as Penguin’s origin story for how he started his rise as a crime boss.

Love how the reference of el rata alada shifts from Penguin, a flightless bird, to Batman, who is a mammal that flies, before going to Falcone, who ratted out Maroni. Then finally, to Batman again, because he was Riddler's unwitting co-conspirator who brought Falcone to the light.

Yeah I wished there was more of a reason why he was chasing him…like I love this scene, and I looove the chase scene but if the reason was more important for the chase that woulda been better. Also why couldnt this convo take place like by not chasing him? Before the scene Batman is revving up the batmobile while Penguin just stands there in fear and then gives him time to jump in the car and drive off, like he could have stopped him right there have this conversation lol but I love the content of the scenes and I love this movie just little things I’m just like wellllll
