This is one of the WORST IDEAS ON THE WEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will never NEVER get all of the old oil out. Now you are mixing OLD oil with new oil. Now does that REALLY make GOOD since??????????????????????

I love how you made this and it's beautifull! Nevertheless, indeed you should drain the oil from the bottom to have the best chance at removing all included tiny metal shaving. However, you could definitaly use it to aid in removing excess brake fluid or other fluids from there reservoirs when flushing or emptying.

I love this channel but was somewhat shocked to see the state of the engine bay given how tidy he keeps the workshop!😂 I also would change the filter & using suction you never get all the contaminants out, which you do with using the sump drain. I guess if you change your oil more regularly than the specification & the filter on time, then this is fine. I do this for my MGB, oil is a lot cheaper and more convenient to change than an engine & 20/50 & old technology isn’t as good as modern engines & oil.

I think this is a great idea for other liquids, but not for engine oil. Might work better for more viscous liquids or very hard to reach areas elsewhere.
I doubt that Honda had a oil sump capacity of just 2.5 liters.
I used one of these 12V electric pumps the same way on my car, then proceeded to empty the sump the normal way and there was still some oil left in there.
So this doesn't get it all out though and it just takes so long, way longer than just draining the sump by removing the plug the normal way.

I just want to point out that while some new European cars are designed to be syphon changed, and most of them have the oil filter towards the top of the engine too, most cars are not designed have the oil changed this way, as you can see by the amount of oil in the container at the end, there would still be more in the sump.

neat application, but taking out the oil and putting new in is only half of the process of an oil change. it's really important to also change the oil filter as well. it's a rule of auto mechanics, and for good reason. you change the oil, you change the filter. also there's a reason they made a drain plug in the oil pan - because it is far more efficient and thorough to empty out a container from the lowest point in the system. better chance of getting all the contaminants out too, if you're changing the oil cold (which generally isn't recommended. most mechanics will tell you its better to run your vehicle for a few minutes to warm up the oil a little and get any particles and contaminants that may have settled overnight resuspended in the oil.)

You do realize that every Mercedes is exclusively a top side oil change? VWs have been doing it this way since the late 90s.
This has been debated for at least 20 years, oil extraction via the dipstick tube is just as effective at removing any particulate than via the drain plug.

Standard features of vacuum devices would include a tube going from the inlet to the bottom to reduce splashing, and to allow for draining the device by reversal of the vacuum. The second feature is a baffle to prevent contaminants from entering the vacuum assembly from slosh. The third is a magnet for iron particles. You are going to normally see water, and sometimes coolant enter the reservoir, all of which will separate themselves due to immiscibility and density.

It's an oil disposal kit. The substance in the plastic bag is something absorbent, suited for holding the oil. You can find them in parts stores or online. I remember several years ago that NAPA in the U.S. had something similar, as part of a promotion. It was a cardboard box like this paper bag, with a plastic liner and some green absorbent stuff, and was sold with a 6-pack cardboard carton that contained the oil filter and 5 quarts of oil. This has been many years, because the oil cans were round (the old cardboard tubes with metal ends).

using suction you never get all the contaminants out, which you do with using the sump drain.

When you doing any oil related operations especially adding it you should pull a dipstick a bit to release the pressure. You're welcome. I love your videos much.

I like this idea, so much easier to change oil . . but ... how about those tiny metal dust usually left around the magnet drain bolt at the bottom of the engine?!!

I think the idea is to use something that the vacuum won't collapse, as it did the thin plastic bottle at the beginning. Glass is sturdy enough to withstand the outside air pressure pushing in on it.

It's amazing to see how smart there is in the comments. He only made a machine to remove the oil and subscribers are dispersed with comments that have nothing to do with the machine.
