Even as a Nationals fan, I can still say putting Bryson Stott at 19 is criminal. He had more WAR, a better OPS+, better defense, and better baserunning than Jeff McNeil, while being younger. He put up more WAR than 2/3rds of the guys on the list. My man got robbed.
yeah I mean Bryson Stott is easily a top 5 2B. Mookie really doesn't deserve that title until he gets some more innings at the position.
Bro its marc what do u think is gonna happen
I’m a Braves fan I would put Stott in the top 10 at least I want to see more to put him in top 5
I’m a braves fan and i hate Bryson stott as much as the next guy, but he’s not that bad. He had a great season and, it seems like whenever the Phillies play the braves at least, their entire offense is clicking
@@dominicwanzer2057bro said top 5 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Stott was hitting .324 at one point, and he had like no errors last year. He should have been an all-star
"is a was hitting" is a crazy string of words. Especially seeing how you went back and edited your comment and still kept it that way lmao
@@thewisemanpaul I didn't see it 😂
@@thewisemanpaulshut up bro😂
Putting Stott at 19th is absolutely wild..
I’m a Red Sox fan and I agree he should be top 10
He should be top 15 but not top 10
To be fair we only saw one good season from Stott but if he has a better season than last year, he will definitely be in the top 10.
I mean Bryson Stott should 180% be at least top 15
@@nathanielbowen2339 That’s fair.
I mean WAR is very flawed, but it took 8 players after Stott to get to a player with more WAR. I mean you love Gimenez and Hoerner, but hate Stott for some reason
7th best fangraphs war in his sophomore season, but I guess he's the 19th best in the whole league. He's a solid hitter and elite defender
retweet
@chasebingaman he's a met fan and will do anything to lower guys. This is why no one feels bad for the mets, because their fans say the dumbest things.
because he's a soft, dumb mets fan
@@yolohernadez2991Mets have the most insufferable fanbase. Yes even over the Yankees/Dodgers
everyone cares about war till its a Phillies player and 4.3 gets you 19th
@godusopp2752 I don't care about WAR that much... and Stott wasn't an elite guy last year by any stretch, especially offensively. 4.3 WAR, yet an OPS+ of a mere 104. He was quite literally league average at the plate, and none of his stats were good enough to offset that. 15 HR's, 62 RBI's, a .280 average... those are decent numbers for a 2B. But it's not gonna turn heads in any way... if he wants to be ranked higher in a random CZcamsrs subjective opinion, I guess he should play better next year... but chances are he couldn't give a shit about these rankings lol
@@fullcircle8231as a second baseman those are really good offensive numbers and his defense was bordering on elite if it already wasn’t. That’s at minimum a top 12 second baseman.
@@fullcircle8231 If you look at his offensive numbers against other 2nd baseman their all top 10 let alone his defensive numbers
Here with Second Base!!
Biggest Rise: Ozzie Albies 12 to 5 (7 spots)
Biggest Drop: Jeff McNeil 3 to 15 (12 spots)
Nothing too major here, but see ya tomorrow for 3B
cant believe he didnt put Ozzie at 25
@@Aldarion65We all know McNeil is the best 2B is baseball and Ozzie is the worst.
~ Basically this guy
bro you are rong Ozzie should be put at 3
*wrong
Arraez was criminally underrated here. I get that power is important, but power guys without contact is like having a zebra without stripes. Without him, the Marlins would’ve had a worse record than the Mets. That’s why Mark is spicy. Happy to clear that up.
He’s absolutely terrible in the field that’s why he was ranked that low.
@@aaronwitt03 I am a Marlins fan. I watched over half of their games. He wasn’t good in the field, but he wasn’t bad either.
@@phanston31 he may not make a ton of errors but he has extremely poor range scoring -13 outs above average which was bottom 1st percentile among second basemen. And statcast had him at a -10 fielding run value which was bottom 4th percentile.
@@aaronwitt03 touché
He was low because out of everyone on this list he is the worst fielding second basemen
Bryson Stott should be top 10, 19 is crazy
Honestly, I was thinking 10
Ha-Seong Kim: great defense, solid bat with a .260 AVG, .749 OPS, great baserunner with 38 steals. 6th
Bryson Stott: great defense, solid bat with a .280 AVG, .747 OPS, great baserunner with 31 steals. 19th
Kim projects much better into future offensively given that he doesn’t chase
Obviously mark doesn’t know that though, he’s just an idiot for interaction
@@jaredfreeley8283 yeah i agree that kim is definitely the better player but that gap is hilarious
I would say Kim 12 stott 14
@@robbiegerola1867 then I assume ud have to have Hoerner in between em?
You’re in denial about Ozzie Albies. He’s always been a top 5 2B.
Immm sayyying bro he is the goat
Yep he was most definitely a Top-5 second basemen in 2022 with his 93 OPS+
He hates the Braves lmao
@@bigsoulja73 boy stop. He played in 64 games in 2022 and was playing through some of those ailments. When he’s healthy, he’s always a Top 3-5 2B. Mark is just salty because he’s a Brave. He’s got Ketel Marte ahead of him when Ozzie was better than him in almost every offensive and defensive category. Mark is wrong about Ozzie even though he said he was proven wrong this year. But he’s consistent about one thing, being wrong about Ozzie Albies.
Not 3 Altuve-Semien-Betts is a trio of players in their own league@@jacobparker2980
"And that's why Jeff McNeil is the best Second Basemen in all of Baseball."
no. You have it all wrong. It’s definitely Daniel Vogelbach 😊😊😊😊
No you’re wrong. It’s obviously dominic leone
@@KeithanJungNo ur wrong it’s curry
What r u on its lebron
@@Ryanbaseball Errm, actually. It's Eminem. 🤓
Stott the only one I think is not a respectable pick, he’s top 15 at least but more than likely top 10. Good list tho, and always enjoyable.
Putting McNeil over Stott LMAOOO
Bryson stott at 19 is a crime
The hoerner disrespect is crazy
Arguably the best defensive second baseman and had the best offensive season of his career and will be even better next season
It's pretty crazy where Altuve ranks on some all time lists already, if he can stay healthy and play a long career he might end up being one of the best ever at 2B.
Ozzie put up such good numbers he couldn't hate on him anymore that he had to transfer some of that bias toward Stott. Stott definitely belongs in that fringe 10-12 spot at the very least
Spot on
Brandon lowe over bryson stott is just.. what?
Nico Hoerner outside the top 10 is insane
Fr Nico is arguably top 7
Underrated as hell across the board.
Saying he’s “average” at the plate is insane. He gets on base and gets base hits more than most in the league, but he’s average? Uh no.
@@Farticus731 I feel like he really discounted his speed and that he actually had somewhat of a down year at the plate because he was in the lead off spot and didn’t as many opportunities. His ability the get on base and then use his speed is amazing especially with his glove. He isn’t flashy with tons of home runs but he’s still so talented on both sides of the ball
@@Farticus731he has a 97 ops+, so he’s basically league average
Can we talk about how good Marcus is, he just stays on the filed so much and doesn’t get injured. Rangers still have him for 5 more years
I feel like Stott being placed at 19 is crazy 😂
Saw stott at 19, then saw Brandon Lowe 2.1 WAR, ok defense and .231 average at 18.. pure comedy Marc honestly.. plus some of the other people above him.. Phillies fan or not that’s clown shit
Thanks for posting these this gives me more insight for the upcoming season
Marc (If Ozzie were a Met): Dude rakes, you can pencil him in for 30 bombs, 100 ribbies, solid glove at second base, I mean, he switch hits, what are we even talking about here? He hits anywhere in the lineup, never takes a day off, just solid all around.
I gotta suspect that Altuve breaking his thumb hit by a pitch in the WBC greatly affected his defense in a possible run for an MVP season orherwise.
nah his 2022 season was even worse defensively
@@benkelly6777 He had a great 2022 and won WS again
MVP lol, hes not coming close to a mvp at this point in his career.
@@lomakinalex He was on pace to hit more HR last season than in his MVP season. So on that alone you are ignorant. He had a .311 BA that could have been higher based on his past seasons but the broken thumb... again you are ignorant. 915 OPS...151 OPS+ just under his MVP season... Not to mention he finished 5th in AL MVP in 2022. The only person who thinks Altuve isn't in considerstion is YOU so you literally have no idea what's going on.
@@aquarpioleonine3995 hes an outstanding player, but purely defensively his last 2 seasons have been terrible
just wanted to check and make sure Turang was around last place. good vid
Marc’s Ozzie hate so strong he put future Mookie on the list to bump him down to 5. Marc is the most consistent hater in all of baseball.
Can you put the name of the player written on the slide some where, I’m pretty baked when I watch you and really need to be reminded who were talking about
I know the guys in the bottom part of the series won’t get much attention, but as a Brewers fan I would have loved to have seen you talk a bit about Turang’s defence. In my honest opinion he is safely in the better half of players on the defensive side of the ball and one day he will take over at SS. Yes the bat needs a lot of work but his glove work is elite.
I'm pleasantly surprised you finally have Ozzie ranked in the right range.
I agree with 5, he's 5 for me too and I'm a Braves fan. Marte, Siemien, Altuve, and ofc Mookie are all better.
Great ranking
P.S. I see people freaking out about Stott being 19, I mean I'd probably have him In the 15 range, but I agree with you totally. What are these guys seeing that we're not
“What can’t this guy do? Oh yeah hit in the postseason.” As a Dodger fan this hurt but that was funny 😂
I feel like you could've also used Julien for the twins, but besides that I appreciate the work in the videos!
Nice jersey, I was rocking the same jersey today too 🔥
Having both Estrada and Stott behind McNeill is just not ok lol. But that’s why we love Marc! Keep up the awesome content man
before watching, gonna predict stott at 12
Edit: wtf marc, criminally underrated. 4.1 WAR in 2023 is deserving of at least top 15
Gorman is starting to improve defensively. Have Oquendo and now Descalso helping teaching him 2nd will help a whole lot.
I’m not for sure but I’m pretty sure he actually was better than Donavan defensively this year obviously he played there more but still a huge improvement
Listen I'm not saying bryson stotts a top 3 2nd baseman let alone a top 5 but he is a spectacular fielder who can get on base and has really good speed so I think 19 is WAAAAAYYY to low at the very LEAST I'd be ok with top 13
The defense thing with arraiz is blown out of proportion, I watched almost every marlins game and he made the plays he was supposed to make made a couple good plays and that’s that. He doesn’t have the range but saying he’s horrible is crazy. He makes the plays he’s supposed to make
I wonder where Jeff McFeeble will land on this list
Andy Ibanez was the tigers primary 2nd baseman. He had a 2 war season
Scott hit 400 for the first month of the year he is top 10
You gave me a heart attack when you said Brandon Lowe and flashed Brewers colors onto the screen. I was like... WTF did I miss?😂😂
Love the jersey man! Is it Bobby Baseball I’m guessing?
One of my favorite series on CZcams
The thing about hitting…it’s about getting to second base…high walk rate/high contact singles don’t mean as much when you can’t get to second by way of a double or sb 🤷🏾♂️
Dodgers are stacked. So far the infield rankings have the Dodgers position players at 2nd, 1st, and 1st (C - Smith, 1B - Freeman, 2B - Betts).
Gorman isn't bad defensively and is improving, but it sketch at times.
LETS GO FAVORITE SERIES IS BACK
I was at the McNeil HR vs. Cubs game clip
Wish you wouldn’t have forgot to mention that Andres Gimenez is coming off of back-to-back Gold Glove seasons at 2nd base and just captured a Platinum glove.
Gotta be honest as a padres fan when Kim first came into the league I did not think in a million years he would be this good but good god has he surprised everyone and I love it
As a Giants fan I am hoping Jung Hoo Lee turns out to be the same!
In the second half last year, Nico slashed 297/377/768 (111 OPS+) with a 12.3 K%, and is the best defensive 2B in the league. He’s going to be #7 at the position this year
I've given another "like" for this video, Marc, but for a third straight position this Orioles fan has to give you a mixed review. First, you had Adley Rutschman topping your catchers, but negated part of that by failing to mention James McCann; then, at first, you gave Ryan Mountcastle some props, but totally ignored the O's valuable platoon player Ryan O'Hearn; and now, at second, while you acknowledge that Jordan Westburg looks to be a solid player going forward, but then bobble the ball by not mentioning Adam Frazier. Yes, granted he's not top end at the position, but you go so far as to include three players in addition to the 30 that would cover one for each team, and I assure you that the number of clutch hits he came through with, and nifty fielding gems for a team that won over 100 games and topped its division that you really should have included him.
rocking the royals city connect 🙌🙌
Good job on the video
I hate the Phillies but Stott at 19 is wild
And Gleyber at 9 is crazy
I got into the top 10 and I couldn’t disagree more than the top-10. I know it’s Mookie but having him at number one is a bit much since he hasn’t played a full season at the position. Gleyber below Arraez and McClain is a bit of an insult to Gleyber. Arraez at ten would be better due to his defense being terrible. Gleyber should be 5-7 in the ranks. Not my list, just my opinion
Braves fans have never claimed Ozzie was the best 2B in baseball, theyve always said he is top 5, this year he was definitely top 3
Even as a bias Philly fan, Bryson stott was robbed. He played gold glove caliber defense the entire season, hit around .300 the entire season and his war was better than the next 5 guys on the list.
Sorry, Altuve is still better than Semien despite the defensive disparity
Fr
It's criminal for Altuve not to be the best second baseman in MLB.
Cue the clip of Jeff McNeil bobbling the ball three times in the outfield
Don't disagree with #1 spot ..but Albies should be #3 at minimum and could be flipped in and out with Semien at #2. He's better than Altuve and Ketel at this point.
Tbh if take 60+ hits and very few strikeouts from arraez over 20 home runs from McClain and kim. Like he is so valuable because he’s one of a kind who does one thing the best in baseball. Which is a very important thing. He’s top 5-6
I would say Ozzie should be number 4 ahead of Ketel, but I know it pained you to put him as high as you did so I’ll take it.
I’m not a Braves fan but Albies got robbed
As a braves fan stott should be around number 12-13
I think the rankings should also be based on projections for the 2024 season. Doing it based on past performance is easier because you are looking at strictly numbers. It also allows you to dive deeper into what makes a player good other than counting stats
past performances literally project how good they will be in 2024
@@jesussalcido6628to a degree, but it never takes into account young or old players on the incline or decline of their career. Based off of Bryson stott’s progression every season, I would rank him higher. But he is just being ranked on the passed season
Like he never projects young players who have a limited sample to have a big year, because it’s always off of passed performance. Young players are gonna go off this year, he isn’t going to rank them that way
@@jakebranco yes thats true however it should only be past performance, thats the only real quantifiable stat while projection is just a big "what if"
im a phillies fan and ill be reasonable and say Stott should be top 15 bare minimum. in my own personally opinion he should be 10-12 range
Edit: Marc also seems to totally disregard how good Stott was hitting with 2 strikes. now he was no Luis Arraez but he was definitely elite.
Let’s gooooo keep it going Marc
It’s nice to see that’s it’s not just Phillies fans that disagree with Stott being 19th
Davis Schnieders K rate on correct calls was something like 7% lower than his actual K rate. (twitter stat so take with grain of salt)
Feels kinda dirty that gelof was 8 spots higher even tho they were both rookies who didn’t play a lot and gelof wasn’t even close to as good in his playing time. Not a shot at gelof cause he’s really good but Davis should’ve been at least a few spots higher
Marcus Semien is so unbelievably good. Future HOFer.
Altuve/Gimenez/Arraez not in top 5 is criminal
i was almost going to be outraged that Altuve wasnt in the top 2, but then i realised who the new guy was
Jose Altuve is one of the best second basemen of all time and if you disagree you’re wrong
Albies feeds on your disrespect, it only makes him stronger.
Matt McLain was worse than Luis Arraez in every metric in one season but is apparently better than the guy who’s averaged crazy numbers over the past 4 years
He’s a slightly worse hitter, and absolutely destroys Arraez in defense and base running, like it’s not even close at all.
That’s why wander Franco is the 14th best 2nd baseman
lol 😅
I say for those who changed positions and were ranked last year you should put their last years ranking with parentheses signaling which position they were ranked
Albies deserves to be #2 behind betts. Stott and Hoerner need to be top 10.
Damn, I'm early. Anyways, just leaving a comment before watching the video.
Story had a higher WAR than the next 8 in front of him lol😂. The fact that you put that disclaimer shows your bias
You should do this with each teams ace
Okay I won’t say top 5 for stott but he’s definitely in the 10-12 range😂
Oof, Julien at 17 is rough.
Marc With Royals city connect! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❄️
Mook is crazy. Elite OF also Elite IF
I think you should do a reaction video to the comments.
I put Stott at 9 on my 2nd baseman list, 19th is criminal
This is my WS as a Dodger fan
just here to see the marc slander to ozzie albies
As a braves fan, I know Albies isn’t #1 but he top 10 every year. Also, how is stott 19? I hate Phillies but he was almost top 10 in majority of key categories. Solid future for stott!
dude i’m a braves fan and stott at 19 is insane
3rd baseman should be an interesting list
Amazing Mark you lost your Yankee envy complex for 30 seconds! Gleyber will get paid next off season!
Bryson stott at 19 should be a crime,
I understand McNeils placement due to past success but Ozzie is top 3 at least, I think he’s a much better hitter and on par or better defensively than Marte. I also think the Brandon Drury is criminally being slept on, definitely a top 15 guy
1. Nolan Gorman is a top 10 player
2. Luis Arraez is a top 5 player
Phillies fan here. I'm not entirely mad at Stotts ranking but I'd put him a couple spots higher. I hate his walkup song too.
coming 2nd for a gold glove, a WAR of 4.4, and batting .300 up until the last month of the season gets u spot #19 👏🏻👏🏻🤦🏼♀️ oh and being 4th in the MLB in AVG among second baseman 😭
so let me get this right from 5 to 4 nearly every stat went down but he was better ?
