Thanks for this. Am a newbie to the 4x4 scene (almost a grey nomad). Have been tossing around the idea of radios for the Ute (what to get etc). Feel that you have helped my decision which way to go as a starter. Have now subscribed and will be binge watching your channel and noting anything of interest that we can visit. Cheers mate.
Thats awesome mate we love comments like this its why we make these videos. I would definitely spend a little more and get something useful like this one I have, they really come in handy when travelling around. Glad to hear you will be binging the Aus lap series! cheers mate.
Would have thought a short wave is a good idea as well as the range is greater UHF is pretty well line of sight whereas short wave will get half way round the world with the right conditions and will certainly get over the horizon.
The only people using SW are actually on the other side of the world. Everybody uses UHF in Australia so the liklihood of contacting someone when you're in need of assistance in this vast and inhospitable land is far greater on UHF
Yes don’t leave home without a UHF, but.........you have to remember that their range is line of sight. Some people still monitor the old 27mhz band which, depending on conditions, can get you across Australia and across the world. I have both I will be fitting to my van.
Overland Travellers I have old ones left over from my old piloting days. I knew I would use them again one day. Like I said, UHF is good but sometimes useless if you are 100km from anyone. At least with a 27mhz, you will find someone that will relay a message.
@@classicscustomsandhotrodso600 yeah its old tech but still relevant and widely used because it works, its good you kept hold of it. If we go more remote I will look at 27mhz or even a sat phone.
Overland Travellers Good thinking. I know a Chinese girl who was in Perth a while before driving around Oz. In Brissie, she messaged me asking about the “short cut” from Uluru to WA and where the garages were. I spent 2 hours telling her she has no gear to do it. She got to the rock and sent me a map and it took another 2 hours to convince her again. She was going to go with 1 soare, no fuel cans, no extra water, no radios and worst of all, in a Jeep. Might be an idea for another video down the track.
You cannot be serious, Oricim, maybe for the kids to muck around with but for serious comms it has to be Icom or the GME XTS oricom when you donr have a serious need for a uhf radio
I use a GME6060 handheld and a GME Ariel that sticks on the inside of the windscreen. A better option than magnetic aerial on roof that can fall off or be stolen.
Great review, what sometimes seems obvious, is gold to some. We all start somewhere and theses tips are good👍
Yep it will be one of my top tips for people wanting to do the same thing...... spend a few extra $$ and get a decent UHF.

Sorry fella, could not handle the camers work. You either talk to me or you don't. Maybe spoiled a good review, don't know because I left the review.
I persisted by not looking at the screen. Absolutely zero need for the edits.
