- This puzzle was published by the Russian Chess Master Alexander Petrov in Schachzeitung #6, in 1824. It is more than a puzzle, it is a morality tale.

In 1812 Napoleon had invaded Russia with a huge army (La Grande Armée, in fact). He had, through a military campaign that was devastating to both sides, managed to capture Moscow. From there he was driven back to Paris. This chess puzzle tells that story.
Note that while I have tried my best to research for this video I am not a trained historian and cannot guarantee for the accuracy of the information in this video.

I should note that I am not a trained historian and even though I have researched quite heavily for this video, I cannot guarantee complete historical accuracy.
4:10 the translation should have been "Men are like digits..." instead of number.
In the sense that the digit 5 in the number 50 is worth more than the 5 in the number 15, because it got a better position.

The Scorched Earth tactic was used heavily against the Swedish invading forces of Charles XII during the Great Northern War (1700-1721) when he tried to reach Moscow, so by the time Napoleon came around it was already long since established.

I like that you were able to utilize the fact that chess was played at a high level in many historically important places and times such as France and Russian in the age of napoleon and that you were able to tell the story of a historical event within the game of chess

This is the first time I discovered this puzzle. The philosophy of this puzzle is supremely beautiful on its own, but the props and style you used to deliver it really enhance the atmosphere. I guess it's not an overstatement to say that the experience is immersive. a well executed video.

Old school for me is something reminiscent of Bob Ross’s the Joy of Painting. Just someone who was really relaxing and incredibly passionate about their craft. He accidentally became what is regarded as the pioneer of asmr style videos.
Been watching asmr for a long while and I haven’t been this invested in an asmr video since French Whisperer. It was the only old school asmrtist who does wonders with history that I know of. I’m sure there were others.
This video here reminds me of the techniques of Crafsman’s lighting and camera angles combined with the history of French Whisperer. You nail this format and your passion shines in this.
I feel asmr these days is a little too focused on other forms of intimacy. While I respect that side of things it’s much rarer to find someone who is showing us something they are passionate about. It’s that element that makes this infinitely watchable.

I usually listen to these videos in bed with my compact earphones and its lovely.
But one day i sat down on the computer to solve some puzzles and decided to put this on using my better heaphones. the bassy rich sound felt like its surrounding me and i felt i was sinking in. It was so cozy i almost fell asleep in my chair :D
