He didn't ran from it, he is doing the fast catch trick, hoping he would get it and move on, but the Metagross disappeared or ran from him, since it's a daily incense spawn, it dispawns quickly, he didn't catch it because you can see in the resume screen at the end of his incense the Metagross isn't on screen.
