    For people dealing with lag: when the opponent swaps out, look at the top right. To see the pokémon or its name, you will often eat several fast attacks. Or maybe even a pre-charged charge move before you even know what it is. But if you look at the top right, the type of that Pokemon will show up and update much faster.

    I heard a good explanation of the pvp IVs, if you have a jar and want to fill it with marbles, the jar is the CP cap, marbles are the stats. Attack marbles are twice the size of def and HP marbles so you get more marbles in the jar with less attack

    You’re receiving tons of praise and it’s well deserved!
    Just started “seriously” learning to battle in GBL last season.
    My BIGGEST mistake was to try and level every “Meta” Pokémon or counter meta … wasted sooooo many resources! By the time I got my stunfisk (g) up for great league it was time for Ultra and I have no team lol… so last season was rough.
    I had to stop with scatter gun leveling… none made it and I’m broke.
    NOW I am so worried I’ll waste more resources I am not leveling anything 😂.
    I’ve been reading/watching every thing I can and still suck (peaked at 1641 last s12).
    I NEED a “core” group to build around

    Brilliant video - excellent structure with great explanations by yourself and Dan! Only thing I'd add, as a new player, is the importance of correct movesets and also community day moves... For example I started after Spheal comm day, but heard Walrein was good... so built one (with decent ivs) BUT without powder snow & icicle spear. It didn't go well, since walrein is virtually useless without them! So I'd recommend people use something like pvpoke to find correct moveset for pokemon 👍

    Nice to see @Danottawa here as a fellow Ottawa player myself. He’s so right about good players just knowing matchups, the first season I hit legend I played the same GL and UL lines for the entire season without ever switching. I’m by no means a good player, but by “one tricking” my teams and playing so many matches, I had very strong knowledge of the specific line I was running for that league, and just that alone was enough to hit legend, despite my overall relatively low game knowledge.

    Hit legend in season 12 (3168 season high) and got to 2939 in 11. What changed everything for me, besides just the experience of playing, was the move timing optimization. I never could get past veteran before I learned proper timing. It seemed like I kept losing very close battles all the time. Once I learned that the vast majority of those close losses could’ve been wins if I had used proper timing, I learned it by heart. And now I don’t even think about it. It’s mechanical for me. And I’ve watched my ELO go from the 23-2400s to nearly 3200 as a result.

    • @GrannySingaporePVP
      @GrannySingaporePVP Před rokem

      @@GDMartin you can look up “move timing tutorial Pokémon go” and get some good videos to show you. FPSticks has a good one. But an example would be if you have a 2 turn move and they have a 5 turn move, you never throw on 5. (That’s 10 turns which aligns with their 2nd 5 live turn (10 turns)). If you were to throw at that time, they would get a full free 5-turn move in on you when gameplay is interrupted to play the charge move minigame. But if you throw on 2, (4 turns), you can throw your move just before theirs ends, keeping them from being able to get that incinerate

    Huge caveat to the advice given here to play at midnight.
    As with any ranked competitive game, if you play when the server load is light, you are more likely to be matched with more varied opponents. If I play at one in the morning, I am very often searching for an opponent for a while, and then end up with people that are much higher or lower level than normal. If I play at around 6:00 p.m., everyone is very evenly matched with me, even in terms of the kinds of teams they're using.
    The matchmaking is much better when the servers are full.

    @Weav576 Před rokem +3

    From my experience fast moves such as Mudshot, Thundershock, Psycho Cut and Power snow, are typically the best type of fast moves especially for PvP/Rocket boss/Grunt or any trainer battle in general that are not raids, as they charge up energy to use your charged moves the fastest and thus being able to attack first depending on what charged moves you have can either make or break the battle for you, usually make), as being able to attack first can either get you opponent to Sheild first or if not can get you a Ko or even if no ko or no shield still will put you at an advantage if you opponents go is lower and close to being Koed and may be able to quickly farm down or if the charge move has a star debuff then that can also turn the battle around. Typically speaking in a PvP or any type of non raid battle situation it's good to have an efficient fast move that generates the most energy and two charged move, with one of them being a 3 bar spammy 35-40 energy charged move to be able to quickly and efficiently spam sheilds especially against rocker bosses, and with the 2nd move being your nuke move, but preferably not a one bar high energy move like hyper beam as they do high damage but are usually not efficient as they can take too long to charge up. Typically a 2 bar, 40-55 energy 2 bar move that can do around 70 to as much as 100 damage, as those are usually the best nuke moves as they are efficient in energy and not too slow for the good amount of damage they do, such as shadowball, outrage etc

    Having played so much pokemon long before Go, then rejoining last year, I only battled a few grunts before I had it all figured out. The lack of immunities and not knowing the second charge move option wasn't a "farm stardust for a free move change" option for too long were the trickiest learning curves, and I'm not fond of the former. But I started SLAYING in the Battle League right away, going on 30-60 win streaks. I joined during one of the Little Cup events. A year later I often end up battling people with fully groomed, PvP IV, best buddy teams and still go toe to toe with them. People who played Go from day 1, have rage quit against me from getting absolutely baited with a weird core team into swap locks. The only thing this video gave me was terminology 😅

    Thank you, helped a lot! But here a little feedback: Dan Ottawa didnt explain a few things very well (even if I am happy, that such a high elo player gives us tips!), especially the important part with the Switch, Shiled, Lead Advantages, he nearly only gave definitions (which we knew already), but didnt explain strategies how we can get this advantages. But the Team explanations was cool, good to have, even if I didnt understand the advantages of all teams to 100%.
    Thank you, I loved your explanations and even Dan Ottawas part was good!

    sometimes it is favorable to debuff yourself to give the opponent less farm, for example dragonite against togekiss

    I’ve been playin since 2020 and wow, I never knew you could have 2 charge attacks. I never clicked that button cause I thought it’d replace my current charge attack and TM’s are a free way to replace them so I just never used it.
    This is game changing for me, thanks man!

      I'll admit that back in 2020 when I resumed playing Pokemon Go after COVID came along, I also didn't know that you could have a second charge move on a Pokemon. 😅

      This shows how primitive pokemon go is. I mean a billion dollar company can't even explain the meaning of a small button in the game that almost EVERY Pokemon has. I used to think the same back when I returned to pokemone go in 2019. For 6 months I didn't use a single TM because the TM notification said that the move will be forgotten by the pokemon. And when I did TM away a move (blast burn from my community day infernape (my first community day) to get a fighting move) I wasted 40 charged TMs to get blast burn. After that incident I purged my storage of all 100 or so fast and charged TMs. It wasn't until a local taught me how to use the TMs that I started gathering them again. I wish Pokemon go had a tutorial for newbies like I was back in 2019, since I still mourn the loss of those TMs (not really).

      didn’t you battle people who used Aqua Tail , and the next move Hydro Cannon or something? how could you not notice people have 2 charge moves ? never saw a person with it either ?

    • @parth17bhatia
      @parth17bhatia Před rokem

      @@GDMartin honestly I didn't. And even if I did I must have thought that it was some kind of cheating as GBL was full of cheaters back in the early seasons. And the game never teaches us the difference between the new move button and a charge TM

    I have this team that helps me a lot, it's first vaporeon with a aqua tail, not a lot of energy and most ppl just use their shields on those and in the average battle that 1 Pokémon kills the first 2 or makes the 2nd low, then rypherior to counter and gyarados to finish em off if needed

    Is there a video that contains all ~70 fast move animations so you can identify what they're using so it can be counted? So far, I think mudbomb and dragon breath are kind of obvious but a fighting move like counter is less obvious (some have the ghostey hands and feet and others just have starbursts) and I'm just wondering if anyone has compiled that in an advanced PVP guide. Bonus: charged moves would be nice but those are a lot more obvious in nature (i.e.: earthquake). All the ice moves sorta look the same. Something with fang or claw are a bit easier. Or do people just guess everyone's using the same move if they use a certain pokemon. It's really sneaky when some use a heavy damage move vs a charging move and you can't tell them apart.

    Do you have a video that shows how to choose the right Pokémon to build? That whole process of choosing, investing, and deciding which league to use it?

    Best advice I can give anyone serious about hitting legend ; Pick a meta line for the GL and UL, and ONLY run that line for the season. Don’t switch Mons because you have a few bad sets. Persist with the line and you WILL eventually start succeeding because you’ve experienced certain matchups and situations so many times. It’s inevitable. Just takes discipline, but it’s worth it.
