in defense of the mundanity of the sims,,,,,,,,, as someone who often finds the mundanity of real human adult life to be overwhelming and unrewarding, playing the sims has genuinely helped me take better care of myself. idek the last time i played the sims but now forever in my mind is the concept of their needs bars. like if i'm procrastinating taking a shower or taking dishes out of my room, i can visualize the way that that affects a sim over time. anything that i can't see or visualize tends to become lost in the void of intangible concepts for me, but i know that a sim's mood is affected by personal stench or dirty dishes, and i can see the stench clouds that eventually become disgustingly visible and i can see the sims' mood go from "happy" to "grumpy" or whatever all bc there is one (1) coffee mug from the day before that's been sitting on the counter overnight. so even if i can't smell how much i need to shower and i think those two plates on my desk aren't bothering me, i can visualize the sims' mood going from "grumpy" back to "happy" as soon as they and their environment are clean again, and that helps remind me how rewarding those mundane tasks can be. not riches or accolades, but my own mental health is a reward in and of itself :)
I talk to my friends about this concept all the time. Same thing with skills, like since I’ve started cooking a lot I tell people that my cooking skill went from 1 to 2 so I’m not burning Mac and Cheese and my “cooking animations” look better

@@kurokitsune5743 I am not sure, but sparkles mean excellence of the dish afaik. At least they did in ts2-3. Perhaps it is different in ts4, I started playing it just recently, but I can't check it - my sim turned out a good cook right when I created him.

My sims always progress cooking very fast, but only fresh fish and vegetables created sparkling dishes

I don't know much about 4, but as I remember ingredients just make dishes cheaper in this game

The amount of times I've told sims to just put the baby in a crib and they pick them up, walk to the crib, walk back, and put them on the ground is infuriating.

i think an underrated aspect of these videos is the amount of flow in the writing. Like I've seen similar videos and it feels very scatterbrained, but with these videos one topic flows into the next so seamlessly its great

10:34 there’s an expansion pack for sims 3 called ”ambitions” that allows you to go to work with your sim and actually play it out. All the expansion packs for ts3 are amazing and add TONS of gameplay.
I'm partial to Supernatural, myself.
If only they didn't add tons of load time... I started playing 3 again recently after months of 4 and I am just way too spoiled now. I forgot how much of a task it used to be to save your game or load a new world.
ts3 expansion packs are SO GOOD, esp compared to ts4. i miss my playable horses.....
I took the campaign funds illegally once and my Sim got fired immediately 🙈 He was at Level 10 and it was depressing 😭😂

the amount of customization was my favorite part of the sims 3 and it is SEVERELY lacking in sims 4

It was the only thing I did. I wasn't interested in playing the game, I just made characters and built houses. I made several of my friends and they actually turned out pretty good
The amount of nostalgia this gave me is insane… I would spend many all-nighters playing Sims 3, definitely got better at taking care of my Sims than myself 🙃
one thing I love about the sims 3 is that certain careers allow sims to gain traits that they can pass down to their kids. like firefighters kids can gain the ability to either never catch on fire or become a pyromaniac

I was obsessed with sims 1 and 2 as a teen…im afraid to get sucked into sims 3 (which i dont even know how its super diff from 2?) because it would take over my life, and I have tv for that now lol.
Having people, who are younger than me, painstakingly explain the sims to me, a game that i first played when i was 14 (sims 1) is just very strange. I feel like a leftover relic from olden times that somehow got found in the ice somewhere and now studied by scientists.
Personally I always fill the household up all the way with roommates for the maximum chaos

There's a mod for sims 3 that lets you have up to 24 sims in one household, that would be practically impossible on the no autonomy setting

as someone who has been obsessed with the sims 3 for years, i love the irony of tony building a basement JUST to play video games and eddy actually being the one to trap sims but it coming from his least favourite part of the playthrough. so close yet so far to basement dungeons where the REAL fun begins.
I love the mundane parts personally. I have some health issues that keep me from working a job or doing more difficult household chores. I guess I live vicariously through them since I can't do those things irl.
what i loved about sims 3, is that you had to use the biggest expansion's CD to play. i collected and installed 10+ expansion and stuff packs from friends because i could just give it back to them and use my larger expansion. i only ever had to buy, like, one.
Same! My friends and I had agreements where each person bought a different expansion pack so that we could all share it lol. In the sims 2, it worked with stuff packs too!

Sims 2 has the best lore and gameplay, Sims 3 is cool because the open world, and Sims 4 is the best for CAS and graphics.
as somebody who’s only ever played sims 4, i can’t believe how different sims 3 is.
Gameplay wise is very different, especially when we compare The Sims 3 mood system that made emotion much more stable and act as a buff for their subjective well-being, than The Sims 4 emotion system that easy to be manipulated and conditioned. Also, sims from The Sims 3 are able to maintain their own needs than in other version, combined with slower needs decay. I'd say much more forgiving for the newbie simmer.
The Sims is one of those games that you play over and over and never get tired even if it's old!

As a player of sims since 1999 I can really relate on having real life problems/responsibilities and stressing over them 10x more by making my sims do them while procrastinating the real life issues.
The woohoo part was so real, everytime my sims do it I just make sure no one is near my room

Absolutely loved this video. The sims 3 was a big part of my childhood. I love that Tony got to marry the iconic Bella Bachelor before she went missing. Also I lost it when Eddy found the kids on the ground and said "with the newspaper?!"
I legitimately play the sims in a way that exclusively makes life as difficult as possible for as many sims as possible. Theres a whole cursed family save - it makes me feel better about how things are going for me
the best part about sims was the clothing and material customizer!! it brought so much more than the current sims 4 options
honestly I feel like the mundane things are one of the best things about the sims. the first time my sim got acne I was thrilled lmao. I feel like it makes it more realistic, which makes it more immersive and complex, especially when they add up and eventually become a disaster (that's the best part). yeah, part of the sims is about escape, about being able to do crazy things you can't do in real life. but if it feels too perfect or too divorced from reality it's not really doing it's job well enough, so the mundane stuff kinda keeps that integral balance in tact.
I love so much that you added “if you’re lucky” bc yeah a lot of us had to grow up filling in for the parental role

There’s a lot I could say about the sims but the biggest thing is that I play on the PS3 still (only available option for me rn) and have been for probably almost a decade, and it still holds up both in entertainment and functionality. I love it, and tho some aspects bug me, I’ve probably spent as much time on it as I have Minecraft, which I’ve had on the same console for probably just as long and enjoyed just as much
The Sims 3 theme always gives me a mini heart attack now because I made the mistake of making it my ringtone. Now I hear it and I feel like my phone is ringing even though I know its not. 🙃😂

I gotta say, I was enjoying the video for the first minute, and actually getting a little stressed out by the whole taxes/jail thing; but the moment those energetic strings came in from the beginning of the sims 3 theme, I was physically smiling. The vibe of the Sims is just so... something. It can be stressful at times, sure, but atmosphere of the game usually is about optimism, about things being weird and strange but interesting and compelling.

The way you describe the mundane tasks as boring and tedious is fascinating to me because I am a very family oriented simmer. A lot of my gameplay is just the normal day to day of their lives, and I like micromanaging to an extent. But, I also grew up playing with sets of family dolls more than I played video games of any kind. I’m sure that is a huge reason for the different gameplay styles!

if you dont wanna do all the basic hygien and feeding, just open settings and put the self thinking option on high.
I remember excitedly tearing open my copy of the Sims when it first came out and creating a Sim of myself the best I could, and set to work trying to recreate my current life. After playing for like four hours my Sim version was crying in his room refusing to do anything because he was too sad. I have never been angrier about time spent in a game. I literally threw the game away, something I had never done before or since. Still have no idea how anyone can stand to play the Sims.
Additionally, the fun with Sims comes from the fact that. You can live out a completely different life than the one you currently have. In Sims I can be a criminal master mind who sacrifices his enemies to his garden, or a science deviant trying to get laid by aliens. Sometimes, we often wonder "what if" and I find the Sims is a great way to just playout our own personal alternate realities.
Really great job with the channel, guys! I enjoy each episode more and more to the point that I enjoy them equally as much as Eddy's main channel videos. I think the tone, narration, and overall storytelling especially deserves praise

i remember having a collection of invaluable collectibles as a kid, literally had all but one of a thing to revive a mummy, spend several weeks on the playthrough getting holidays and stealing all those trinkets from pyramids

The Sims is legitimately the only video game my mom ever plays. My dad and I tried to get her into playing RPGs like she wanted to (pillars of eternity specifically because shes obsessed with crit role) and she would constantly ask my dad what she was supposed to do because...its an RPG. You kinda get free reign. Theres no "right" option. Just your decision. But this confused her so much she eventually stopped playing. Then there was that time we all tried to play an mmorpg together and man that was irritating constantly babysitting her while she ran off in the wrong direction. But in the end she happily went back to sims. What in the world is so fun about digital people lighting themselves on fire? Or living the stress of child rearing all over again? Then again I think she just uses it as interior design simulator
