      @MrLeFluffy1 Před 2 lety +52

      Honestly I feel like the only reason Jane Lynch hasn't really received too much shit about her role and why her character is actually generally tolerated a but more than others is because, like you said, Jane Lynch recognized right way that her character was NOT A GOOD PERSON. The character may be a source of comedy, and hell, maybe there might come a time where you can sort of sympathize with parts of her, but she never plays her like her actions are justified. Plays her like her CHARACTER thinks her actions are justified? Oh, absolutely! But she absolutely plays her as someone that, even when introduced with a "reason" for her actions, does not have an *excuse* for her actions. And that's why her performance not only outshined everyone else, but her character and her personal role in the show hasn't received the kind of backlash the others have. You can see the awareness in the way she brings that character to life, and people recognize that.

    The shame is that the show could've been some great character material. They could've had Me Schuster realize that the Glee Club is about the kids, not his selfish desire to relive his youth. Have Sue Selvester learn that being such a terrible person has left her alone and miserable and have her try to be a better person. Even have the bullies learn to empathize with their victims and try to make up for how they wronged them.

      @@helloill672 was about to mention Community! Totally agree, that show gets the “flawed but likeable characters” thing right from the pilot episode. I haven’t watched Glee, but from what I can gather it struggles with making its characters likable for a long time, and watching unlikable mean characters for multiple seasons before they learn just doesn’t sound like a great time.
      That is my personal bias showing though, if someone tells me to watch a show and says “the main character(s) are awful and intolerable for the first few seasons, but they get better later!”, I just won’t want to watch it. I’d rather characters have something redeemable about them from the beginning, otherwise I feel like I’m gonna waste my time.
      In my opinion, a TV show should have flawed but likable characters who you get invested in, because that’s what TV shows do best.

    The most disturbing thing i remember from watching Glee was season 4 episode 20, a future character Ryder opened up to the Glee club about his babysitter touching him when he was 11 and Sam and Artie were like why are you ashamed of that? that's every kids fantasy. Just because his babysitter was a 17/18 year old girl and that infuriated me!! Other people disagreed with it but Ryder just dismissed it and they NEVER talked about it again like ???

    Just to correct one thing. If you are going to have a glee club/high school choir, you actually do need a budget. You have to pay for sheet music, sometimes you have to pay for someone to play the piano (although sometimes you can get a band teacher/student to do that for free). It's also nice to have choir robes or something like that so that every kid doesn't have to spend the money to come up with some kind of uniform and acceptable performance outfit. You also often have to pay for transportation to performance venues/conferences/etc. So yeah, you don't need a huge budget, but you do probably need more than $60. Carry on.

      Yeah for sure, my choir teacher was the one who played the piano or he just played the track in the background, but even with that expense out of the way you still have things to pay for. Sheet music like you said is it’s own expense, not to mention microphones, speakers, and equipment. But each year, each student has to pay $100, of course there was ways to reduce it down to $25 I believe for certain students, but I spent $100 each year for choir. $75 for the dress, $5 for the folder, and $20 for the yearly shirt. Not to mention the week camp was $430. And you had to pay per student for our 2 big completions each year

    • @katyggls
      @katyggls Před 2 lety +53

      @@kayleigharnold Interesting. This was many years ago, but in my high school, choir was an actual class (albeit an elective) that you got credit for, so the school district paid for almost everything, except our choir robes, which we had some fundraisers to pay for (selling candy bars and such), and if a student did extra things like trying out for the all-state conference, they had to pay for their own entrance fee and all that. I'm sure it varies a lot by the school district and whether the choir or glee club is an actual class or purely an extracurricular activity.

    • @katyggls
      @katyggls Před 2 lety +25

      @@bogosbinted5734 Yeah, I probably should have explained that part better, but when you buy sheet music, you aren't just paying for some paper with notes and lyrics printed on it; the price effectively includes a license to perform that work. Hence why sheet music is so expensive. And in order to license an entire choir, every single performer must have their own licensed and purchased copy, they can't share, and you can't buy one copy and make a bunch of copies of it on a copying machine or whatever. Even if it's a digital license where you print it yourself, you still have to buy a license for every person in the choir.

    Just a reminder that if you see a child/minor getting abused by a teacher, please DO report it so that the abuse can be stopped.
    Don't wait for the CHILD to come forward with their story because they are a CHILD (this includes teenagers). They might not understand why what is happening is harmful to them or they might be pressured into silence by their teacher. (and the teacher stays free to potentially abuse others)
    You also do not have to report it to the school. (If you are afraid people will gossip or the school will cover it up ect). Report it to the police directly. It is a crime to abuse a child. It's an affair for the police. In cases like this, the identity of the child is supposed to stay protected. There should be laws in place for that.
    It's not your place to tell someone else's story of their abuse but if someone is in need of help, get them help.

I never watched super far into the show but I remember the arrest and the reports that were put out about him and 🤮🤮🤮 Disgusting, vile, monster person. If you don’t know, Google it bc I will not be explaining it here to save myself from getting angry.

    Glee’s biggest problem was that it didn’t follow the formula of Seinfeld and Always Sunny in that these are horrible people that we’re not supposed to like and instead enjoy the karmic backlash. Instead, it went the Friends route where they wanted us to be invested in these disgusting wastes of space and see them as amazing and fantastic.

      I remember Rachel getting so much comeuppance throughout Seasons 1 & 2, but yes, they wanted us to root for her at the same time. I liked her a lot tho - still do. Lea Michele, not so much.

    Man I beg you to react to season 2. The show is so problematic but when it came out and I was in my early teens it was everything, the best representation at the time and full of non stop bangers. Watching it now is the best because it’s so criminally bad but so many jokes and the humour holds up until now and nothing else has yet to compete. Would die for you to post another video reacting to season 2!!!

    i remember watching glee during the worst depressive episode of my life. it shows a lot about my mental state at the time to know glee was the ONLY thing keeping me afloat.

    The funny thing is I remember the show Community made an episode parodying Glee called Regional Holiday Music. Their Glee Club director "Mr. Rad" was portrayed as a happy and charming guy who loved to perform but in actually was sinister and manipulated the main cast into joining his club. I thought they just did that as a joke, but after seeing CZcams videos like this one analyzing Mr. Shue's problematic behavior it looks like Community was on to something.

      I hate to be that person, but the word you're looking for is satarizing, not parodying. You parody something you like, you satirize something you dislike.
      For example, One Punch Man is a paradoy of Superhero media, whereas Watchmen is a satire of Superhero media.

    • @fionatastic0.070
      @fionatastic0.070 Před 2 lety +26

      @@castillogrande8926 Well, satire is more of a worldly critique of a cultural, social, economic, etc. phenomenon. Parody is usually making light of a specific piece of media, a specific book, film, TV show, etc. or tropes that are common across several pieces of similar media. The two can overlap sometimes (art imitates life and vice versa and all that) but that’s the difference as far as I understand it. I would say that the OP is using the word correctly because it’s mocking Glee specifically but it could extend to romanticization of problematic characters irl so maybe a bit of both.
