- Back for the solo adventure down in Newport Beach Harbor targeting spotted bay bass. Sending out Xcel lures and mustad mezashi jigs from the float, I drift down the docks in hopes to pull out a couple friendly foes. We set out at around 7:00am with the high tide at 9:30am for the best chance at locating some of these monsters in depths. To say the least we had an absolute field day with tons action!
Set up - 7'0MH 20# Max Cuatro Braid with a 12# Seaguar Fluorocarbon Leader.
Tackle - Xcel Lure 15 grams, Mustad Mezashi 15 grams

Hi, what launch site is this in Newport?
I launch from many places. As long as I can find a parking spot and don’t disturb anyone there’s plenty of little spots to launch down side streets off beaches etc..
Hey bro you know any spots where I could fish for spottys in new port ? Like by the docks?
The best thing you can do is start conquering sections, earlier in year look in the back of the bay for deeper areas. Later in season they are everywhere. The more time you spend out there dividing sections the better you’ll understand and learn movements.

Can i launch my kayak from there?
Yes you can launch kayak from there, there is a couple spots down the balboa peninsula side past the pier with parking in between the houses. Another solid spot for kayak launch is the coast guard entrance on bayside if you have wheels for it at that beach.
