I feel like one of these with a treble booster or a 60s style fuzz box like a super fuzz, ff, mosrite fuzz sound, tb etc… would be a crazy sound. Particularly a fuzz face because it does tend to work with the natural sound of the guitar more.

Nice review, thanks! I bought mine four months ago, and over all it's a really, really great LP; the neck feels super nice and the P-90s are so rich and dynamic. But... the nylon saddles took out a lot of the natural tone, so I very soon replaced these with metal saddles. An easy and cheap upgrade wich made a huge difference! I can't recommend that upgrade enough - once you've done that, you'll never install the nylon saddles again (ofcourse you keep them in the guitarcase, since they are a part of the guitar's history). Again, a great, great Les Paul!!

The back to front truss rod cover is awesome....think I'll do that on my DC Special Lite. :D Great videos!

The original 1968 Goldtop was actually a 1956 reissue. On the first 40-50 guitars they made in '68, they fitted the crown inlay by mistake. There are very few original '68 Goldtops left, as most were routed out for humbuckers, or refinished, or both. If anyone has a good guess of how many are left with P-90's and crown inlay, let me know. Perhaps 15-20?

Did they really reissue it as a 56? I know they had the same employees that worked on them at the time but how did they know other than the experience of the workers who built them? They tossed all records and plans. From what i gather, they had nos bodies left over with routes for p90s and they used them up. Either way my favourite two gibson specs are 68 standards and customs because it was the first time you could get both p90s and humbuckers from the factory at one time in a full spec lp.

I found this model on a guitar shop website on Friday evening. I wasn't aware of it. I ordered it pretty much immediately. I now have a three week wait for it. So looking forward to getting my hands on this.

@@KennyRavelo I had been looking various Goldtop models, I have a Les Paul Traditional and didn't really want another 50's neck. A P90 Goldtop with a 60's neck is just perfect.

@@talkychris I think this might be the only one in the current lineup to check those boxes!

@@KennyRavelo As far as I could ascertain all Goldtop models were 50's or the 70's Deluxe with mini humbuckers, which was probably my most likely choice until I discovered this model.

it also has a reduced headstock angle, maybe it's why it has a little bit less sustain ? maybe it's creating a different tension on the strings ? i don't know really, as you say there's a lot of factors going on here

Didn’t the ogs not have an extreme hs angle too?? I thought the angle was more extreme now?
