I grew up with the Oakdale Mall of the 80-90s heyday. Unfortunately, that is just a memory. The Triple Cities area can't support a mall and would turn into an abandoned mall if the Oakdale Commons project doesn't happen. CZcams is littered with videos of small town malls that are dying/dead; Oakdale would be one of them if not for the transition.
Thanks for the video. I moved away from Binghamton in the mid 2000s but grew up in the area. So many great childhood memories from the 90s here. Nice to see a little throwback to Aladdin's Castle arcade back.
I remember my Grandparents taking me there when I was little, shortly after the mall opened. It became a cornerstone of the area. I spent many hours hanging out there when I was young, until I left the area in 98. Unfortunately, the mall doesn't look much like I remember. I hope it can be kept open.
I love that you're so knowledgeable about what the stores used to be! To me, that's one of the most fascinating aspects of retail -- seeing how stores utilized and transformed spaces over time. I especially love finding obscure remnants of past tenants, like that CVS sign!
Always love your walking tours because I never found a place I enjoyed walking around more than Binghamton/Johnson City/Endicott area. Been about 6 years since I've been to my hometown of Binghamton and I really miss the little things like shopping at the Oakdale.
Glad I have footage of this place from 2019, including inside the Macy's, knowing it's slated for demolition. COVID clearly did a number on it. Given that this place is getting redeveloped I hope there is some kind of sizable amusement park involved in the redevelopment, Binghamton is a huge city for the closest thing like that to be 2-3 hours away (Knobles, Great Escape).
Do you know of a department store building nearby that was like 4-5 stories high? I remember going there as a kid. They had popcorn as you entered if I remember correctly........Maybe painted letters on the side?? This would have been in the early 90's
Childhood. Cool that they are gonna do something with the place.
I’m nostalgic and want to see the Oakdale Mall of the 80-90s back.

I loved the mall in the 80's but I'm glad they are going to repurpose it rather than let it rot like so many others around the country.
Old enough to remember Montgomery Ward, Fowlers, Bradlees, and the theaters. My aunt worked at Sears when the mall first opened in 75.

My sister graduated from JCHS in 1975 and worked at a Thom McAn at the mall not long after it opened.
Good to see an Arcade at the Mall again.

Me too
I heard Burtlington was moving to the Town square mall sometime this year.
I havnt been in Binghamton since 2017, moved back to California I'm so suprised how much has changed at Oakdale and yet it's still not in good shape
California malls are the best.
Nice video. This is nothing new malls across America are slowly dying.
Whoever would have thought......
Thank you frank
It looks so different than it used to!
Yes, im sure you are disappointed that Victoria’s Secret closed before you could find out her secret.
@@fgpalm Oh I know her secret
nice seeing split arcade like that.
The X Exhibition Hall is home of Xcite Wrestling events. Local professional wrestling.
I love this and by the way Oakdale mall is by me
Bath and body works: the best place for candles. Those other candle stores, 😫
Great information. Thanks.

Welcome to the dead mall collection
When did Eastern Mountain Sports leave the mall?
ive never seen them there.
Honestly we have to to so far off just to get to any type of hiking stores around here
EMS left the Mall several years ago
I never get to the mall bc it's hard to walk
Do they have handicap chairs for us?
I believe they do have wheelchairs but I’m not sure about motorized scooters
This is sad
So how many of those stores are going to be gone for this whole Commons thing?
Idk but some might get moved around
Skipped right over Eddie Bauer. Still open.
True, how could I forget
Ruby Tuesday's went out of business??
Yup
I hate to see the mall like this.
Great Escape used to be KB Toys.
I wish it was still there
Such a shame....it's really a beautiful mall : /
