  • Very self explainatory in the title.
    I’ll be specifically showing you the location of common maintenance items and how to change them. This will include a standard oil change along with changing the air filter, cabin filter and fuel filter.
    We will touch base on dos and don’t along with specific tightening torques as set by the vehicle manufacturer.
    This is definitely an easy vehicle to work around and is definitely something I can recommend you try yourself at home.

      Hi Tony, thank you so much for the positive review, it really means a lot. This are great vans and I would totally get one myself. Only very important suggestion I would recommend, these engines have wet cam belt (constantly lubricated with engine oil). You need to regularly change out the engine oil a minimum of every 12 months OR even 6 months to help prevent premature wear before it's due to be changed. These wet belts like the Fiesta EcoBoosts and Peugeot/Citroen engines have proved that the cambelts are common for failing. Not to discourage you, just make you aware.     good useful video. i recently had a MK7 transit SWB until someone wrote it off for me when it was parked up at the side of the road so now i am looking for a newer van, the biger model Ford transit. generally its the same that i am used to from servicing my own transit in the past, but the big difference i see are 1. metal oil filter (older van was a plastic housing with i think a 27nm of torque which was silly as it made it so difficult to take it off, i would usually tighten it up till snug then nip it a bit tighter and just keep checking it for the first week to see if it leaked any oil, usually didnt) and 2. the fuel filter is now plastic and less helpful (my van had a big plastic bowl that the paper filter was inserted too, you could fill up the bowl with diesel to help prime it better than the new system), i usually let my van turn over and when it started i would hit the throttle to force more fuel through and keep it running to stop any air getting in, not sure if that will be useful on the current models.
    thanks to this i am more ready and happy to go buy a newer transit. also the key in the front bummper has been a transit thing since late 90s, my dad bought a MK6 transit years ago and the guy selling it to us did it no problem but once we got the van home we couldnt work it out for a while how to open the bonnet but the internet helped lol.

    Really nice and helpful vid mate! One small remark: you're using the oil filter wrench the wrong way around. If you hold it the other way around, it will actually tighten it's own grip on the filter, instead of loosening it. Cheers from Holland

      Hi there, glad it helped but yes, I am totally aware I had them backwards :) The reason for this is because, despite the fact I wasn't using the specific tool, there are a couple of cooler hoses in the way restricting which way I needed to turn the filter using the oil filter wrench. I had to have the open end facing the other way not to hit the lines whilst turning. Appreciate the eye for fine detail Holland......very well done.     Great video, just one tip, turn your oil filter pliers around, they are designed to self tighten in one direction only so if you have them reversed they are trying to open and you are using much more force trying to keep them closed.

      Thanks for getting I touch, glad you enjoyed the video. You're are 100% correct. Normally I would have had them turned the other way. There are a couple of coolant lines for the oil cooler & wiring harness for that matter, that restrict the position of the pliers. In this instance, I need to have the open end spun around to avoid hitting/damaging the hose(s) or wire. Better yet, I could have used the original oil filter cap that I had LOL.     Great video. Super helpful. I have a question regarding the fuel filter change. You did not disconnected the fuel hose before removing the filter. I thought the fuel hose was supppsed to be disconnected. Am I wrong?

    Thanks for this detailed video. I have a 21 transit custom. Im not too fussed to pay for a service, but I just want to do an oil and filter change really in between the service intervals.
    Out of interest, in your opinion, why are Ford's service intervals in the UK so far apart but in the US mechanics do oil changes every 3000 to 5000 miles?

      Hi, thanks for getting I touch. So these transit customers run what's called a wet cam belt. Rather than the cam belt being dry like most engines, it's constantly lubricated in engine oil, as is the oil pump belt. The only problem with this design is that being "wet", oil will increase deterioration and over time, the cam belt will break down and small fragments of belt with end up slowly blocking the oil strainer/pick up and starve the engine of oil.....that's if the cam belt doesn't snap before then. So, Ford will actually say change the oil every 6 months but most garage in the UK will say once a year is efficient enough. Perhaps Ford/mechanics in the US are more tuned into specific maintenance for this particular vehicle will quite rightly recommend to change the oil more regularly. For the sake of an oil change for £150-£200, will spare you a new engine replacement in the near future. Hope that makes sense but if I were you, you'd be 100% correct to change the oil and filter at least a couple of times a year. Thanks again for getting in touch.

      Hi, thanks for getting in touch. When I comes to disposing of chemicals, both engine oil/filters and fuel/filters do need to be disposed of correctly. Once chemicals have been collected in appropriate sealed containers, either a specialist company will need to be contacted to collect and disposed of accordingly (usually from a garage/business in large quantities) or such chemicals can be taken to a local recycling centre where they will have separate containers to be disposed of correctly.     My transit has 83000 miles, I have to service it, I had thought of removing the oil pan to check if there are any parts of the timing belt. What do you think?

      It’s got a wet belt so if it hasn’t been done yet, then get it done. I got mine done for free as part of the Ford recall so it’s worth checking with your local dealer.

    The bonnet key is a bloody nightmare. I got a non-fob key made just for that as I'm paranoid about breaking the main key.

    What year is that van. Does it have a wet belt. I want to get a Transit but don't want one with a wet belt. But want that shape. 😊

      Hi Nick, thanks for getting in touch. This van is a 2017 plate and I can confirm that yes, it does have a wet timing belt. So oil changes are incredibly important and at very regular intervals IF you do intent on purchasing once. So make sure you buy a van that has full service history unless you're looking to buy new.       Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Yes, the clearance may be minimal but both the oil filter and drain plug are located quite low so you should be able to do it without a problem on the floor. Just make sure the vehicle is on a level surface to ensure all/most the old oil comes out. All the best 🙂

    May in your country you need a 0w30 but in the south , it doesn't' matter what Ford says about the specific oil but here in the summer when we have around 40° celsius, that oil become like water, I really whant to know how can be lubrificant...and how it can be stabel after 10.000 km... ahahahah

      The 2.0 Ecoblue has a wet belt so the specification is really important.
      I can buy oil that meets specification for €3,13 per liter, so it is not that expensive 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

    First oil from sump than oil filter or not? 🤔 Oil is specific but is not only about 0w-30 but about spec ACEA C2 it's all about rubber timing belt witch is in oil ..(wet belt there are 2 one for timing small one for pump) ford recomend castrol magnatec start stop , Ford WSS-M2C950-A .. and oil change maximum every 10000miles ford recommend every 5000 -7500 ..it something different from what ford was recommended in 2016 when eco blue engine was released..this engine is one big fu.k up..injectors last 40-50000 before start leaks no matter how often you change fuel filter i do mine every 7500 all filters and oil.. other problem egr valve carbon build up , and lack of power as intake is integrated in head can't clean it properly without removing head , next one lack of power it pissing compression between 2-3 cylinder most of time when lucky only gaskets blown if longer running as not aware why than it makes deep scrufs on block and engine is done .. new engine comes cheaper than repair ..such things happend with 100-120000miles when luck of power and starting longer idling then check compressions on cylinders and don't bother change injector as most probably there most mechanic start change injectors problem cured for month and issue back in some time ,.another turbo oil return sized blocked with rubbish new version get bigger bore oil distribution. Etc.. new engine every 100 000miles todays quality..
