As a small side note: when this came out there wasn't a Legends vs Canon separation, and this game was released six months after Revenge of the Sith. So in a lot of ways, the story told on the campaign was THE way the 501st endured the Clone Wars, how order 66 came to existence and how they kept functioning after the Empire was stablished.
So yes, nowadays it is a "what if" scenario, but back then it was THE official story.

Even at the time, Battlefront 2's story wasn't canon. It can't be. It has the 501st, probably even the same soldiers, present at every single major battle in Episode 3 at the same time.

Battlefront 2 was an absolute staple of my childhood. So many hours on my friends PS2, late into the night, even more hours on my PSP version in the third row of my mom's '99 Suburban. I'll be picking it up for the nostalgia, if nothing else.

Dude don’t, the original games run well on modern machines still. But this is literally a worse product than if you but the originals then pick up a couple super popular mods.(fun fact 0 time went into developing content for this, the updated textures are made by AI and the extra content is just a popular mod). We have the originals and I still play it with friends to this day. You can get it on sale for 2 bucks or less sometimes. Or full price for 5. Dont support this cheap cash grab

I don't think the graphics are bad though, it's like Todd Howards puts it, they're an aesthetic. It's like watching old movies, there's a charm to their quality and the things they had to do to achieve the desired effects.

i think some of these older games look better than new games like yeah sure on a purely technical level new games look better but fortunately for us graphical fidelity isnt the most important thing to visual quality and what is is art style a good artstyle will look better and will last longer than a generic artstyle with amazing graphical fidelity
I still love going back and playing old games I missed out on. Half the time I think the graphics still look good to this day. I prefer to play MCC using the old graphics for Halo CE/2.
I am still iffy because they used ai to upscale it so somethings look jank and using ai feels sorta low effort for something like this.
The graphics in these games were great for their time, there were games that came out in 2005 that had bad outdated graphics for back then. So I wouldn't say the graphics are bad, they're outdated by today's standards sure but when playing old games like this we have to keep in mind of when they released.
The DICE Battlefront games always felt too restrictive and linear. The OGs were a lot more creative when it came to player choice. Like being able to use a vehicle without some kind of screen or selecting a unit. The space battles were also way more engaging. Sure, a lot of it was unbalanced, but was such the case with most games in the mid 2000s.
When games were games something bad ass about it being like a arcade game instead of micro transactions the online play will be fun
We still have them. They are super cheap, run on modern machines, and best of all those you can get the same (more even) graphical touch ups and official content if you download a couple mods. Did I mention the multiplayer still works? I still play this game with friends. Dude just spend 5 bucks or 2 once it goes on sale and have a blast with the rest of the still alive community. There is no reason to support this low effort cash grab unless you don’t own a computer or laptop or any kind(the games are from 2007 and will run on anything with great performance)
@@jamesmoniz5263 To be honest the multiplayer is the main reason I’m probably gonna buy the collection. Sure, there’s already multiplayer on pc, and I’ve been having a shit ton of fun playing it (especially after the player count effectively doubled when the collection’s announcement), but there’s only a couple servers that are populated at a time, usually with heroes disabled, and good luck if you want to play a space battle without bots making up 70% of the teams.
@@jamesmoniz5263Natalie made a good point. Regardless, I wouldn't call this a money grab. It could be, but I think good sales and positive feedback will show them that Battlefront 3 is needed, and must be absolutely what a Star Wars fan could ever want from it.
@@michaeltompkinsjr.7696 they are rereleasing an old game with the only new content being from mods created by the community... and they are charging 7 times the price of the original game for it... All this while not even spending dev time to make cross play work. I don't see what they've done? they copy pasted some community made mods, and repackaging it? (oh had used AI to do the texture updates, which has issues with being inconsistent. Not to mention its just another way they cut corners)

It's like Simpsons Hit and Run and Crash Team Racing. The graphics are dated, but charming, however the core game engine is perfect! It's still good today.
Honestly I've played Jedi Survivor and it just feels like a Disney Plus show to me with aspects of interactivity. I find it exhausting. That's just me though, I know it's a popular and acclaimed game. I prefer older games as they feel like games, so long as the core aspects of the games are good.
I love space combat on 2005 but the phisycs of the lightsabers and abilities feel really clunky and dated, i don't mind the graphics though, they're not that bad. Crash team racing had good phisycs instead for the time. All these games have good enough graphics. Battlefront 2017 has much much better phisycs and feels really smooth when aiming unlike 2005 which was a rushed game just doone in 1 year on the same dated engine 2004 game had and i played them as a kid and that time phisycs felt alright but obviously not as smooth as other shooters.
@@davsavchav jedi survivor has a ton of bugs, i've played jedi fallen order on ea pass and it was really full of bugs and it was like 1 year after its release that i played, not giving any money to broken games that they don't care to fix.

CTR was easily the best Kart racer of its time. I think MK8 is better now, but the CTR Remaster is still a close contender and is from 25 years ago! Crazy. Simpsons Hit and Run is also a fabulous classic

I’m 24 and I’ve spent most of my childhood watching those wrist rockets and capturing those command posts. Multiplayer is new for me bc I’ve only played instant action over and over again. I absolutely love these games and happy they are coming back.

Used to play this all the time as a kid. Didn't have internet for the longest time, so when I was in a multiplayer mood and had no one to play with, I just relied off of games that had offline mp bots. Battlefront 1 and 2, unreal tournament, timesplitters 2, etc. I was a lonely kid, but always knew how to entertain myself...

I played the first battlefront first on a demo disc for ps2 that only had the battle of endor on it and holy shit believe me when i say i was so happy to finally get the full version when i was a little older lol
If there is one thing I wish they would change for booth instant action and galactic conquest is instead of choosing an era to play in you just choose the faction for each team.
Galactic conquest is not currently available for online play. If they don’t change that then I have no reason to buy this game. I like your idea as well. Droids vs empire would be cool to see.

@@Ioudpacc I think one way it could work is via a hosted server with free drop in and drop out play. Any inactive slot would simply be taken over by a bot. And if the host doesn't make a move on the galaxy map within 90 seconds the rest of the players can vote to auto roll the next move or to pass on host privileges.

I was part of the online ps2 community back in the day on swbf2 and later the pc community playing scrims/clanmatches on both platforms etc and let me tell you, this game can be really mechanical and sweaty especially on pc. There are even community patches to balance the combat in scrims as some mechanics were literally too op
I used to own both of these in the PS2. Going to enjoy owning them again.
A small correction regarding the game mode Conquest: I think the main objective and way to win is to hold the majority of command posts, and drain the tickets of the enemy team. A team holding majority (for example, 3 CPs out of 5 on the map) will activate a ticket bleed on enemy tickets. You can try to win by just killing enemies, because a dead soldier is a ticket lost, but usually just racking up kills isn't enough without holding the command post majority.

I’m 25 and the Star Wars games of my childhood were Battlefront II, The Force Unleashed, LEGO Star Wars & Revenge Of The Sith’s game.
I already purchased this for two reasons; One being the obvious childhood treasure that I will hold onto for the rest of my life with these consoles.
And the second, it makes a statement to most companies on what gaming is about. Not everything should be locked behind a paywall to make it complete. I want this to succeed over most infamous AAA titles to show what gaming was and what it can be. Especially for Star Wars.

I'm 25 and I've played bf2 since 2005 that was my peak star wars year
so in the second game on the pc version of it, if you look under controls and to starfighter. you can disable mouse turn assist and it helps control the starfighter much better. at least for the classic and not the collection. its usually automatically turned on when you make a new profile.
Still got 2 hopes for this. 1 being crossplay so that any friend can choose what they want to play on (I only have a Switch), and 2 is a physical copy. Even if the Switch version is smaller, it's still 20+ GB's which I can't do unless I delete a bunch of stuff or buy another SD card. Can't wait for these 2 on the go. (Not counting the PSP games)

I'm 26 (going to be 27 this year) and i've played the classics back then as a kid and even games like KOTOR, also even Star Wars: Obi-Wan, Bounty Hunter and Republic Commando. Loved the old games so much, they were hard, especially as a kid and playing them mostly in english even tho it's not my native language was a slight barrier. But i also learned english very early, even before shool, so i managed quite well at that time xD
But yeah, now 20 years later i'm feeling hyped to "be this kid" again from back in the days and replay all of this glorious game with all dlc content and XL Mode which i didn't had on PS2. A friend of mine never acutally played the classic Battlefront games and he's super hyped to play the collection. So yeah, whether you played em or not, you should totally get the collection if you love Star Wars and especially games like Battlefront or Battlefield (since they are very similar) and you'll have much fun with it, either solo with bots or online, i'm sure of it.

I got to play both bf1 2004 and bf2 2005 as a kid/teenager and enjoyed both games on the og xbox. The thing is cause i didnt have xbox live at the time I didn't get to experience playing online with gamers. Now with this classic collection coming out which i just pre ordered on the series x now this will be chance to play online with gamers which i didnt do 19 and 20 years ago.
I know Battlefront 2 is where the multiplayer focus will be, but dont skip out on battlefront 1 online! Theres no sprint, so everything feels a little more deliberate and the maps feel larger as a consequence. Battlefront 1 also has starfighters on ground maps, which the second game omitted. Vehicles are also way scarier in the first game, because most can take you out in one shot but take forever to destroy. They were nerfed a bit in the second game. All of this contributes to a different feel for the first game that I quite enjoy. Really excited to play these online again on consoles.

I’m 22 about to be 23 and I grew up with both OG games along with halo 1 & 2 those were the days. Thank goodness I can relive the times when I’d have my window open listening to the summer birds with the breeze while I hear the triumphant music rolling in the menu.
Grew up playing co op instant action with all my friends on both games. Im excited to see it brought back, im excited to play with other people again. I remember having laughing fits with my friends as we devolved into trying to blow each other up for an entire battle.
I’m getting this 10000 percent. Only played them a couple handfuls of times as a child, and certainly never online, but dang I’m so excited.

Kinda makes me wanna binge the movies again too.. i remember watching the empire strikes back and being hooked on Star Wars.
I used to play heroes vs villains offline nonstop after school. It's the main reason I bought the new bf2 but the original hvv mode was too much fun as a kid with a lot more heroes that should been in the base game of the new bf2. I can't wait to play again!

I tried the original battlefront 2 recently and it didn't really hold up as there was only one single lobby and it had 2 cheaters on each team, so I'm hoping that the new version gives me a better experience ^^

I'm 46 and Battlefront was the 700th game I ever played. I remember being only 27 years old renting this from Blockbuster, me and my wife and her 4 kids would stay up all night a play it. She's gone now but the memories of those nights still remain.

I grew up with the PS2 where Battlefront was my most played game. The PS2 never had online multiplayer (that I know of) so I've never experienced it. I rebought the games on Xbox One to relive those days and play it with my friends. But with the news of the Classic Collection I am so hyped to finally see the multiplayer and hopefully watch these games live again
ahah im 24, was always aware these games existed but never got the chance to play, there was not a lot of Star Wars games during the Xbox 360 era, and I was dying for some type of "Battlefront" game to come. I have a PC and everything now and started playing Battlefront 2, not a lot of servers or players though, so its a joy seeing these classics get re-released.

They don't have the same charm. I was just playing Battlefront 2 Classic, last night. I've never played online. Just offline modes. I play for hours
I swear the 501st campaign in BF2 just ended on Hoth? (The empires last victory) so is not an alternative timeline by any means. It just didn’t show the fall of the empire with Endor. (It was called “the rise of the empire” to my understanding)

Yes the BF2 campaign ended with Hoth (the infamous speedrun killer Our Finest Hour) but didn't show the battle of Endor, probably for storytelling and power fantasy reasons

The simplest explanation for why the clones knew about Order 66 in the og games was that it was just one of 150 contingency orders that they were expected to memorize, all part of Palpatine's idea of hiding the destruction of the Jedi among dozens of other such orders. While there was no intention of using any of the others by Palpatine, the Jedi didn't think much of it because there was also an order, Order 65, to immediately remove the Chancellor from office in the event he went rogue or the Security Council/a majority of the Senate declares him unfit to issue orders.

I only got to play bf2(2005) once at my friends and loved it but then the servers were shut down so this will be my first time, very much looking forward to it and ofc watch those wrist rockets

I love the resurgence of classic battlefront, I've been playing this game on my PS2 since it came out and still play to this day so updated next Gen versions with online multi-player made me lose my mind and took me back to when I was a kid playing them on PS2 with my dad. Still hopeful for BF3

I’m not sure if it’s mentioned in the video as I’m not finished with it yet, but if you pre order at least on console you get 10% off! Now obviously it only takes it from $35 to like $31 but if you know you’re going to buy it at launch anyway and haven’t yet may as well save a few bucks!
While 35 dollars is a little expensive, I feel that the price is worth it to get these amazing classic games on modern platforms. With XL mode AND online multiplayer as well! So many new people get to play these awesome games!

Never played the games myself as a kid, but i remember i always loved to watch Battlefront 2 on CZcams, even though i didn't know English that well at the time, I still enjoyed the gameplay and funny moments from it, and now I HAVE to relive that, but this time as a player

Dude the hidden weapons in the games were lit. Having to do certain things like take out certain amounts of enemies within a short time. Just little hidden things.

Btw the second game was canon at the time amd it wasnt an alternate timeline. It ended at the battle of hoth and they dont wipe out the rebellion.

I’m 25 lmao I grew up playing battlefront 1 and two plus the OG PS1 games too so far I still have all Star Wars games on PS2 as well
Both campaigns were fun can’t wait to revisit them
i played the og battlefront games a couple times on my brothers ps2. some of the best fun i’ve had on a game. so much better than the new battlefront games. i cannot wait to play this!!!!

If you haven't played Battlefront 2(2005) you need to try the space battles. Go land in the enemy capital ship hangar and start taking out the systems from the inside on foot. I was expecting this style of gameplay in the new ones. Maybe they should think about keeping the same slick shooting and visuals from the Dice games and bring in the idea from the cancelled original Battlefront 3 and have huge battles that take place on land, in the sky and in space simultaneously. Essentially a seamless blend of the land and space battles from Battlefront 2(2005). Maybe make it 256 players with huge maps and capital ship interiors.
This is the first preorder I’ve done in probably decade. I think the last one I did was Cod MW2 lol.

I played the 2nd battlefront so many times the games are as old as I am but the reason im excited is I never had a chance to try multiplayer on either of the games

This game just goes to show how absolutely legendary this was. It’s been nearly 20 years and this game is more hyped up than most AAA titles thatve come out in the last 5 years.
I wish they added the ability for split screen plus online gameplay like being able to play split screen while playing online
