It's pretty refreshing to see more Spanish-language horror movies, as well as horror films with a catchy modern grunge soundtrack.
This didn't go exacty where I was expecting. I thought the masks would be metaphors for "fake smiles," and that the reveal would be that her family didn't accept her boyfriend. Instead, they tried coaxing him out of his shell and removing HIS mask, only to conclude that there was nothing beneath.
He says he works with his dad, but not what they do. He says he's an actor, but only talks about auditioning and not getting any roles. He says he loves to cook, but thinks imitating MasterChef dishes makes him a good cook. He teased his girlfriend that her family home would be boring, but as soon as they invited him in to sit on the couch with them, he avoided meaningful conversation and stared at his phone. Other than his attempt to make small talk about sports, he volunteered nothing without coaxing by his girlfriend. Finally, when his girlfriend took off the "mask," she was wearing to look like him, he was horrified and begged her to stop. And when she asked him to do the same, he resisted desperately and was unable.
On a literal level, it's a horror story about a man who gets his face cut off. But on a metaphorical level, it seems to be about a woman learning that the man she's been dating is fake and not suitable to take home to her family.
The final part of your analysis reminded me of the message behind the short film "He took his skin off for me"
But wasn't he showing his true self from the beginning? Doesn't that mean he was just shallow, in a sense, while on the other hand, she had been unsure of showing her true self to him? Also, her family had been capable of speaking, they didn't try either.

This was both creepy and funny. Like someone mentioned in the comments, he should have just gone with the flow (at least until he left their house). The smiling emoji-faced family scene reminded me of the old TV shows like “Father Knows Best”, except they had a wholesome, psycho-killer family vibe. Loved it.

When she said, "they're not masks", I woulda asked her where the bathroom is and then dipped out of a window... She just seemed a little too eager to introduce me to her grey alien parents without first mentioning a few details about them...

What a creepy and funny short. I liked that villainous family. I loved the designs within their masks. We need more interesting horror villains like this sociopathic family.
Well I liked what the girl said in the end. We are all wearing masks. More masks than that family is wearing. One mask for work, one for family, one for Acquaintances and one for strangers. At least this family is wearing one .. a smily one.

Taking the short story literally, I feel these comments miss the humour and premise a bit. When the family discusses him being inauthentic, they're referring to the fact that he only has a real face, which to them is a mask. The joke is that this family puts on "fake human skin" to fit into society, but they can be comfortable wearing their "real rubber masks" around each other. The daughter has to put on a "fake human mask" to go out and meet people, but when she feels sufficiently close, she reveals her true self and tries to get them to reveal their true selves too.
Unfortunately, she's only run into humans so she continuously butchers them, with the father and mother remarking how many humans they had to butcher before finding another "authentic" in each other and the brother snapping a pic and enjoying the trainwreck. The daughter thought he was just being shy and was ignorant that she was about to torture this poor boy to death.
To everyone saying he should've just gone with it... that wouldn't have made him any more "authentic" since he still would've had flesh, bone, and death waiting beneath the knife and no sexy rubber mask like the rest of the family 🤣

Honestly this was probably the best horror short film I’ve ever seen, especially with no backstory.
What is really creepy to think about is the fact that this family is looking for people like them,

You don't wait for an explanation. You kindly tell her dad that you were just dropping her off, tell her you're sorry, then you BOUNCE!

What a cool short! I love the way the twist was handled, because I genuinely had no idea if Borjas was going to have the yellow face underneath or not.

This movie was amazing. I love how it makes you think the whole way. How a relationship starts happy then things slowly don't make sense but you let it slide each time.Then in the end your love reveals to be everything you always feared a " monster". It ends with your destruction. One way or another.
A creative horror! I liked the final "twist". 😱😨😨 The thing that made me smile, was the fact that they had an emoji-shaped cushion on the chair.

Sometimes skepticism can put you in a surreal mental place. It can make you feel like you are choosing the wrong people based on your past traumas. In the end, those relationships based on skepticism become a severing phase of our lives. Especially in the love department.
Finally, the family. They now have to deal with their own relationship. The mom's smile is too good to be true, dad's smile has an underlying protective side, The brother is jokingly skeptical, easily deceptive. The daughter looks oblivious to every slippery slope surrounding her. She puts on a smile, assuming she is fine even though she is tired (of her family?). Now this is when dad tells both mom and the daughter how he told them so. The mom tries to defend while the brother literally laughs at the whole situation and his sister. What if their faces slowly morph change into the emotion they eventually fixate on? What if the daughters face gradually becomes a frown or a menacing smile? It seems fair to say that the idea of a Big Happy Family here, is genetic or a suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. Based on the cycle of this family, they will continue to fixate a smiling mask of their true feelings.
Awesome! Loved the sci-fi show starting on the TV as this whole insanity was unfolding. I'm obsessed!

This story is giving a lesson, that one should be careful while choosing a partner. Especially if that person is not independent, and relies heavily on their family. Because this means compromising your lifestyle.
To be honest i really liked the family I like how they were just quiet and just being so odd and strange I would have went with it I just kind of like the way they live and how they act mask or no mask I really like this family I think it's crazy except the part where they try to cut your face open but I think that is his own fault for not going with the flow
