- Eri is always mollifying people with a fake smile on her face. One day, she turns into a doll with the same grin permanently frozen in place. No one notices, however, that she has transformed into a doll. Soon thereafter, she is discovered on the street by a talent scout, and she becomes a popular singing idol. A large number of people imitate Eri’s appearance, gradually taking on her fake smile over time. In order to change her situation, Eri takes real action for the first time in her life. There's a term called smiling depression which is a common in japan. The person performing the outside face has become so accustomed to it that they can't free themselves of it. Tatemae is an outside behaviour which a person is expected to have in japan. It is so common that people lose themselves in faking themselves everyday. I'm mad I haven't seen this before! This was so well made, absolutely loved it! Great depiction of the consequences of putting others before yourself by restraining from truly expressing your feelings. You lose your sense of self over time, and people will take advantage of how easily you comply with them. They could possibly exploit you for personal gain. No one notices how you've changed cause they've been so used to the one set of emotions being expressed, and changing a strong image like that is difficult to come out of.
To think of it. Is a story of a girl being optimistic or something, and getting famous for her happy life... But ppl didn't notice that her smile is fake.. And even so she takes the courage to still try to be a good example to others. But because of the fake emotions she always puts on she has lost personality. And explains why the mask is empty, with nothing inside. So she tells everybody to not copy her. But fails, and just continued putting fake expressions, because she has never been loved and appreciated that way.

My point of view on this short film is that if you don’t show yourself or feelings or pretend something that is fake, you will end up empty. You don’t have to fit into society standars, you have to be yourself and don’t be afraid of showing who you really are. Who cares if you are the most beautiful, smiley or perfect person in this world? Just be you, cry, laugh, and most importantly LIVE. Don’t ever hide your feelings for someone.

Okay so as someone who smiles so much that it is almost my natural expression, I can only say this: im depressed, with lots of trauma after a while you dont realise how much you are smiling, what this is about a girl who hated herself because of how she looked got praised for the looks, its about the fact that even "easy" tasks are hard when it looked easy (taking off the mask and going on the stage = showering eating and small tasks) when you actually show how much you suffer you are seen as "brave" and "open" when you just want someone to listen to you and help

Speechless! Brilliant story ! There is just so much to learn from this short movie.. She wanted to get out of the trap, but instead her getting out of the trap was a part of the bigger trap itself.. Life for some idols are just way to complictated.. But also for other people as well..

Some to the point where they get plastic surgery to get their 'idol' like look and follow in the idol's personality but in reality some of these idols don't even like their own image that the their agency and company mould them into.
