For reference, after the run, I was going to show this off and have a bit of fun. It's disappointing I wasn't able to show it off, but the marathon was already behind so it's understandable so please don't hold it against the staff!

holy shit this is how sonic is meant to be played. but god this has to be difficult to perfect.
Just like any other speedgame, it just takes a lot of practice! Personally, out of the three games, Advance 1 is the most basic to learn, Advance 2 is the fastest and requires the most APM, and Advance 3 is the most complex & difficult to learn.

As Sonic or Amy if you press A at the end of a rail you can do a trick to make you go higher. Too bad the rest don't have one.

28:20 I promise you this boss and by extension, this level will absolutely destroy a casual run if you're just trying to hold right to win. This entire level is meant to punish those who have been getting through the game by pressing right. I probably spent days on this level as a kid
3-2-1 GOSTART!
I hated Sky Sanctuary so much. It took me so god damn long to pass it as a kid (not as long as fucking Techno Base, but that's for another time...). Oddly enough, though, when it came to the boss, it was always that damn laser that killed me. I could never get Sonic to jump high/long enough to avoid it (especially on a slope).
To this day I have never beaten Techno Base's boss.
Sky Sanctuary? What? This isn't Sonic 3, it's Sonic Advance 2.

Sonic gets a bigger bonus depending on how fast he runs past the goal line. But for a speedrun, Sonic takes longer to slow down- so you want to be as slow as possible.
It's something we overlooked to mention. For real time, you want to slow down before the finish line and hold back so you skid less. I typically prioritize in-game time since it's my personal preference, so I never slow down until after the in-game time freezes for each level.

Also Cream is great for bosses so he should've chose Cream. In case you are wondering why it's because of her choa. Cream's choa can homing attack anything but it takes before it can attack again.

Once a upon a time I saw a gamer who could LITERALLY DASH ALL THE LEVEL FOR A SPEEDRUN AND COULD TOTALLY BEAT THIS DUDE RIGHT HERE.

I understand the runner was likely nervous being recorded live, but there were so many mistakes in this run, I found it irritating to watch. Hope to see better next time, hang in there!
