  • Senior Rabbi Shira Stutman of Sixth & I Historic Synagogue in Washington, DC explains the meaning of the Amidah, “the central prayer in the Jewish tradition.” We also visit a Friday night service at Sixth & I led by Rabbi Scott Perlo and Jewish music pioneer Rick Recht, as well as a prayer service at the Magen David Sephardic Congregation, a modern Orthodox synagogue in Rockville, Maryland, to see the way the Amidah is prayed.

    The whole point of shockling is to pray with Kavannah. So not just saying empty words to a blank wall, but believing in the words with enthusiasm!

      A SILENT PRAYER KEEPS THE DEMONS AND THE DEVIL FROM SABOTAGING WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FROM GOD. IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR THEY CAN'T SABOTAGE IT.

      @Chana Bayla I respectively disagree, while i love and respect every single jew individually ,I do not have respect or love for a movement that undermines Judaism at its very core, the very word reform is a threat to Judaism. Why reform something that is beautiful? Tragically the amount of reform and liberal Jews who's children marry out is a proof that reforming tradition is a dangerous game that ends in tears. Thankfully the movement is dying out and traditional Judaism is flourishing again! If my 2 year old son ran out into a busy street I wouldn't " respect" that! When i see my beloved people stumbling in areas of spirituality I don't respect that either.I love my people too much!

      @snan9402 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Lagolop The amidah is a blessing in praise of the ancestors of Am Yisrael, which straight off the bat is entirely illogical for a Christian to be praying. Christianity considers the Jewish people to be no different from any other nation, nor exalted or unique in any way. The siniatic covenant was completely abrogated in the New Testament. There is no reason a gentile, let alone a gentile Christian should hold any reverence for the ancestors of Israel. Not to mention that it also generally exalts the power and awesomeness of the singular god of Israel. Christians (including Catholics) worship the false messiah Yeshu yimakh shemo and the holy trinity, neither of which are or are compatible with the singular god of Israel.

    • @Lagolop
      @Lagolop Před 2 lety +1

      @@snan9402 I wasn't supporting Christianity or the concept of a trinity, but you are nuts to think that there are no Christians that follow some Jewish customs. Some appropriate and some do it out of respect and support because they know the roots of their faith is in Judaism. And as for your comment about Christians not thinking Jews are different from anybody else; you are dead wrong. The Christians believe that the Jew are the chosen people, God's people. I'd say they think we are different from anybody else.
      And having female rabbis is NOT a Jewish thing at all. Neither are women wearing kippers and tallit. Just another example of "wokeness". To me THIS congregation just looks like a church congregation.
