I live about 20 minutes from where the Tree of Life Synagogue in PA was the target of a horrible mass shooting. Thankfully, he was found guilty and is awaiting his sentence. How anyone could inflict such violence on a beautiful religion and its people is beyond me. I have prayed and will continue to pray for the victim's families. I have an even greater respect for the Jewish religion from watching your videos. I have learned so much.

One thing that continues to warm my heart is that many things within the Jewish faith seem to be done with such purpose. Everything has a reason, and a history. For a religion that has faced such continual hardship throughout history, it makes me so happy to learn about the importance of all of your rituals and holidays, and that items related to your faith such as the mezuzah, the Torah covers, and even Shabbat table settings are so special and ornate. It shows me, as an outsider, the love that goes in to your faith and the care you take in practicing it. I love witnessing others who are so dedicated to their faith.

I found this out when i started my first job at 21. My co worker wasn’t Jewish and he told me he loved the Jewish religion because everything was done with purpose and meaning behind it. Also i don’t understand why people have hatred against Jewish people. I can’t even count how many times during Shabbat services we pray for peace for everyone.

@@cynthialagraff4144 Dear Cynthia, thank you for your comment. This will help explain. 💖
What Are the Five Books of Moses?
Often referred to as Torah, especially when in scroll format, the Five Books of Moses are the foundation of Judaism. Until this very day, the text-which is written in Hebrew-has been carefully preserved by the Jewish people. It is also known as Chumash and Pentateuch (related to the respective Hebrew and Greek words for “five”).
As their name indicates, the Books were written by Moses, as dictated by G‑d Himself. Jewish people see every letter and every nuance as a sacred communication from G‑d, rife with significance and meaning. They contain 613 mitzvahs, Divine commandments that shape the life of Jewish people everywhere.
      The Five Books:
Bereishit (Genesis): The creation of the world and the early history of the Jewish nation, including the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, and Joseph.
Shemot (Exodus): The slavery in Egypt, the Exodus, the Giving of the Torah, and the building of the Tabernacle.
Vayikra (Leviticus): Deals with the Temple sacrifices, kosher, and other aspects of Jewish ritual life.
Bamidbar (Numbers): Many events that happened to the Israelites on their way to the promised land, including G‑d counting the people, the Spies debacle, the Korach uprising.
Devarim (Deuteronomy): Nearing the end of his 40 years of leadership, Moses speaks to the people, preparing them for life in the Promised Land.

One day I had the courage to ask him if I could ask him a couple of questions as some of the books had different views. He was surprised but willing to answer my questions. It came down to orthodox versus newer reformed. When they had a baby naming for their daughter they invited me to attend as they thought that I would basic understanding and would be respectful. Dear Dr Malka, this video was a breathtaking & marvellous insight into this place of worship. I am woefully uninformed about Judaism, so your kind warm guided tour of an Orthodox Synagogue is so helpful & informative! From the Tree Of Life display of inscriptions to the seating, you explained significance of these personalised aspects well.
As a book lover, my favourite bits were you explaining the books supplied to worshippers and their purposes (I loved the wee pictures on spines to indicate when to be used), but most especially the stunning scripture scrolls! If appropriate, please convey thanks to all involved for the intimate film views of not just of the incredible skilled handwritten scrolls and their remarkable containers (which I understand are utmost sacred), but also seeing the honourable position in which they are housed in your house of worship!
And attention to detail by architects and builders, that the steps on upper balcony were somewhat shallower.
I think I’ll watch this again.
My first video of yours (which got me to subscribe recently) was your tour of a kosher shop, which again was an delightful education.
Oh and as final comment, I did love the digital clock showing all the information about times and dates in different formats - what a clever and practical piece of technology!
And your signing off in narrating this CZcams was so full genuine warmth and spiritual connection, I was personally moved.
    Many thanks

I'm not Jewish, but attended a Lutheran church as a child and have been inside both Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches. All three of those Christian denominations had the eternal flame in the back of the sanctuary as well. It's so interesting to see things I'm familiar with in another religion's traditions. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful traditions with me!

I love to connect with you! One thing that surprised me was the light that is lit in the synagogue to honor God. We Catholics have a light that's always lit to honor the blessed sacrament in the tabernacle. It's wonderful how we're all alike in that way. Love to you and your family.

Hello from Petach Tikva, Israel. I always enjoy your videos and learn something new. My husband is Mizrachi which isn't the tradition that I grew up with so the differences in customs is always interesting. I wish that I knew all the melodies to the various prayers in a Sepharidic synagogue because I don't and it keeps me from feeling as at home as I wish that I did. Also, the way of receiving an aliyah to the Torah was a big surprise to me. Another surprise for me here in Israel is the custom that the women have of throwing down candies for a special simcha like a bar mitzvah, for example. Anyway, I just wanted to say "shalom" so you are always sure that you are appreciated for all the work that you do in making these videos.

Over the many, many years I have been going to church, I find myself always gravitating to same place in relation to the altar. At home I have a chair that I only use for prayer. This helps me remind myself that when I am in this chair, my focus is on G-d. I want to also share that a couple of weeks ago I asked the Frum It Up community to pray for some upcoming medical tests. The excellent quality of materials & decoration is noticible & the middle eastern, almost Arabic, touches gives a peaceful ambience. The part of having your loved ones who are passed with you brought to tears. Very beautiful. Both my parents and my beloved aunt have passed and i believe their souls are at peace and guiding the living. I my purse i have little items that i carrie with me that i can touch so i can feel them near me. Your video's are amazing and i am watching them all. Sending you all my love from the Netherlands ❤

I was surprised about the big kitchen in the synagoge. Really nice to have a look in the synagoge together with you. Thank you.

The smaller steps in the women’s section was a bit of a surprise, but as a Muslim, after you explained it, it made complete sense!
