Ah sometimes the best plan has ripples in it. Man there was alot of marine snow in that water column. Glad you made it back up safe and sound. Keep doing what you do and stay safe brother. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
never ceases to amaze and impress me, how many people can say they work for a living under such hazardous conditions, risk of shark attacks, drowning, currents, the bends, little or no fish and sometimes it seems as if the fish you are targeting is luring you to places you shouldn't go, add to that the adrenalin which can consume more precious air when time is limited , scary just watching.
Hey Dennis, I def agree. Years ago we were heading for the dock on my 38' 7Knot Diesel boat. It had been a hot, sharky , really hard trip but we had a good box of fish so I was in a great mood, despite the challenges of the trip. Kenny came up to the bow and we were talking about the trip and he made a comment that still to this day sticks with me. He said "You know, you really have to love doing this, because you'll never make enough money at it to compensate for all the danger and work". He was spot on then and your comments are spot on now. Thanks for watching and taking the time to post that. Best, Dan
Gregg, it def was. He was still alive on the ascent and gave a little shudder every once in a while. I hate coming up with my azz in the wind but he semi cooperated and when Kenny showed up, we finally got him strung. 20 more minutes of deco and he hit the deck! Glad you liked the video! Best, Dan
Dan,when you asked Kenny to leave for the surface,my stomach became like a small stone. I am very happy that you got that beast fast enough, out of its cave.

Probably would have required another 3-5 minutes of deco but would have made the ascent much easier. But that's Monday morning Quarterbacking right there. Best, Dan
Hey Matt, there are def some beauties out there in that deep water! I saw one once that I swear was just stupid big but was already headed up and just couldn't do it! Sigh. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan
As I watch this hurricane Ian is coming up SC coast forecast to head inshore somewhere in SC but it's getting worse here in coastal SE North Carolina than we were forecast to get or expected. After watching the aftermath in Sanibel Island and Ft Myers which was tough to see and I am certain other areas are hit as hard also. My heart and my prayers go out to all those in Fla.impacred by this storm. I ve had two homes flooded from past hurricanes but nothingIike I saw along the gulf there. It was heartwrenching.
95 LBS! Damn!! I want to see those couch potatoes that never been spearfishing in their lives say that ain’t spearfishing. That is so difficult getting um out the hole not to mention at 240 and a monster fish! Hell of a catch Dan!
Thanks Dan, that spot is usually amazing, I only hit it every year or two but it's almost always a "killer' dive. Yeah, doing a dive like that would def change a few potatoes minds! Thanks for your comments brother. Best, Dan
Woo whoo!!! I yelled when you pulled that giant from his hole! I was holding my breath for those mins you were fighting him. But my OCD is asking? Did you get the power head back? This has to be one of the best videos yet! Thanks for sharing this crazy dive!
MHAP, thanks brother! It was a huge relief to me as well! NO, that PH is still laying back up in that crack. I'll hopefully pick it up next year! It was an entertaining dive for sure, glad you liked it! Best, Dan
Thanks BB, there was def some luck involved there as well, but Kenny and I have pulled a lot of big Carbo's out of some Fugly places over the years. Def helps having a buddy like that! Best, Dan
Dan if you and Kenny ever want to dive some pretty good numbers on the west coast of Florida, let me know. We go out of Steinhatchee and Suwannee all the time and would love to have some new faces dive with us. I promise we won't stress you out with a 240' dive.
I've got 3,000 plus hours of recreational diving under my belt, most of it it spear fishing. But I've got to say you guys are awesome!!! I've never seen diving that deep before, based on all pervious videos. Did you guys come from a commercial background? I've never seen Trimix and Nitrox diving used for spearfishing before.
Hey Chris, no I didn't come from a commercial background. I started full time commercial spearing in 1999. I always loved the deeper stuff and over the years just gradually worked a little deeper. Really glad you like the videos! Best, Dan
Ya, I wouldn’t want to do it either. I noticed your stress level when you forgot how to load the gun when you two were sorting out shafts on way up. Good Job getting that thing out of the blind hole.
Hey Doyle, yeah I wasn't going to do anything that didn't have to be done. You never know when something simple could "turn on" that fish and I probably would have lost him..... I'm glad he finally came out as well! Best, Dan
What about $2000! Dan you are a beast! I’ve wrestled a lot smaller grouper out of holes a whole lot shallower than that, it’s a chore in 60 ft of water I cannot imagine 240’ deep. You’re crazy, but I love it! Great video!
Hey Todd, lol, well after a good nights sleep and 18 hours of SI, I probably would have dove it for free! That $1000 comment was exactly how I felt after that dive though! Thanks for watching and your comments, much appreciated! Best, Dan
Dan, amazing video. Beast of a fish, and that was a bit hairy for a min. Glad it all worked out. What brand, Cal is that PH your using? I use the 44mag Bill's bangsticks but I like your setup way better. Hope to see you out there. J from HDC
Hey John, yeah it got a little sideways but worked out in the end. I was probably 15-20 seconds away from punching out and sending the next team down to wrap it up, glad I didn't have to. We use a 7.62/54R Russian Military round. FMJ and roughly equivalent in power to our 30:06. I have a machine shop make up the aluminum casings and do the rest myself. Neptonics (813-867-3250) and Spear Gods (727-432-1967) both offer similar products for retail sale. Best, Dan
Don't know what it is but your videos always make me think of a song. I'm paused at the point where you are about to stick your hand in there. I'm hoping that The Lions sleep tonight 😁
@@danmacmahon3973 Be Alert Always Always, and that's what I like about your gift, you are careful and Make that clear. Thanks for sharing your gift with us.👍🙏
Thanks DR, I'm hesitant to list specific mixes, etc. I can say that I mixed to a 1.3 PO2 at maximum depth and to a 130' EAD on the HE. Pretty much in line with most tech training agencies recommendations. When conditions are good, I usually do more deco than called for, hanging under the boat for a few more minutes and playing a favorite song in one's head ain't a bad deal. Best, Dan
Hey Patrick, def wasn't! Those 2 recent Hurricanes and now strong cold fronts have put a hurting on diving recently. I'll def be back out there as soon as the weather allows! Appreciate you watching and your comments! Best, Dan
Jim, I have the aluminum casings made at a local Machine Shop and do the rest myself. I use a Russian Military round, 7.62/54R. Neptonics (813-867-3250) and Spear Gods (727-432-1967) both have similar PH's for retail sale. Best, Dan
Adam, we make our own spear guns. I zip tie a piece of 5/16 ID air hose to the light and slide it onto a kill spike located beneath the main shaft. Best, Dan
Hey Orion, I use a black Gomask with the built in SS Gopro mount. I also use a gopro 6 Black. The gopro 7 Black is great as well, I have no experience with the gopro 8's or higher. Glad you like the videos. Best, Dan
GMVP, yes. I did about 10 minutes more deco than "suggested", but there's no harm/no foul in having my tank ready "just in case". Those few minutes might be critical in a bad situation. I felt fine and had no issues but I'm a big fan of being prepared! Best, Dan
Nice fish brother . With risk comes reward. But sometimes the best plans alway have hicups. All goods ya made it back up and on deck with minimal problems. It was weird how the spear wouldn't push threw. Keep on doing what you do. We appreciate the ride. Stay safe
Hey Monty, yeah those big Carbo's are tough...I was a little surprised that the spear didn't push through easier myself. Might have had something to do with the pusher was running on 2 hours sleep, lol. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan
Hey Scott, we make the guns ourselves. The front shaft holder is made from a piece of Neptonics track inlay. The rear's were designed by myself and I had them made up in a local machine shop. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan
TAOW, yeah, that dive got a little sideways but it all worked out in the end. "Stay Sharp" is an excellent and quick way to get an important point across. I'll use it to the guys if we're doing something a little harrier than normal. Thanks for watching and your comments. Best, Dan
I got tired just watching that one damn!! Nice work!! What computers are you guys using? Just wonderingly do and I know some can be a bit conservative on bottom time. Keep up the great videos. 🤙🏽
Hey GR, they're old Zeagle computers from the late 90's. (I know I'm a Dinosaur) I also use a separate bottom timer. One of the guys has been trying out a new Garmin dive watch and it's pretty impressive. Is almost always within one minute of where I want to be. Glad you like the videos ! Best, Dan
Great dive Dan. I always hated Deco stops when it’s getting late. Especially holding fish. You ever try a pole spear instead of a stringer? Or both.? Could have used to pull that big boy out and a 6ft spear holds the fish away from you when the bad boys in the grey suits show up. Just a thought . You are the man
Hey Barry, I never tried the Pole Spear idea. Interesting thought though. I dislike late day Deco stops as well...I think our Brains revert back to Primordial thoughts such as "big ugly things hunt at dusk" etc.. Whatever the reason, it's def spookier late in the day! Best, Dan
Thanks Bruce, I just mix to a standard 1.3 PO2 and an EAD of 4 Atm. The guys do find with that EAD and more HE would cost a lot more and has it's own problems. Thanks for watching and your comments! Best, Dan
Mr B. again, it can vary quite a bit. I never back dive with less than a 2 hour S.I. and it's usually much more than that. The shorter the S.I., the more likely you could have a DCS event. Best, Dan
Hey KK, I personally like Nitrox up to 150' or so and then trimix after that. I've spearfished a lot on deep air in the 200' range in the past but haven't done that since I "discovered" Helium in the 90's. Glad you're enjoying the videos, Best, Dan
Hey Patrick, thanks brother! Yeah, all's good. Had 2 Hurricanes in the Eastern Gulf in the last 4-5 weeks, no diving. 2020 has really been something! Hoping we get some decent weather soon! Best, Dan
95 LBS is a legitimate Monster! You earned your paycheck on that fish. Just goes to show you a powerhead is a great tool but not a end all! Look forward to your next video!
Thanks MH, they're a great help, but like you said not an end all. Glad you liked the video and hope the weather gives us a break so we can get out soon! Best, Dan
Diving to 185'' is demanding and tough just worrying about deco, bottom time, and narcosis (for me anyways). Amazing to shoot monsters deeper!......Rock on! :)
Hey Dan, do you ever do seminars? I know you've been at this for years but an old salt like me would still love to learn new tricks. I just picked up a "65 Blacktip custom that I got in a dive gear trade and I've never spearfished before. Knowledge is wisdom and wisdom is power. Power to keep you from doing stupid shit. Lol
Hey Steve, yes I've done quite a few seminars at the Blue Wild expo and also a few with Kevin Bruington of Ocean rhino. I hope to do some more when the world gets back close to normal! That's a great gun you picked up! Best, Dan
All I want to know is who’s crack were you going to shove both arms into. Knew you should have gotten that jumbo lion fish on the first dive. It’s all High Adventure! No matter how deep it is. Nice Dive, good video.
Thanks Ross, lol, when I was editing the video, I originally had a caption that I was probing with my shaft in the crack but after seeing how that looked on the screen, I changed it ! Glad you liked the video! Best, Dan
Hey Ben, no I didn't have any problems but I did deco about 10 minutes more than what the computer said was necessary. No, I didn't breathe O2 on the boat, but I did have Ricky put a bottle on my pack and have it ready "just in case". Better to be prepared and not need it than need it and not be prepared. I was just being cautious as that dive was a little outside my comfort zone! Best, Dan
@@danmacmahon3973 Glad you are well. I was concerned when I saw Ricky change out your tank so quickly. Your breathing on board sounded like Darth Vader.
Were you out of bottom in that area? Why'd you stay for just one hard to harvest fish? Seems like you could've gotten 50-100lbs anywhere. Just wondering what your rationale was. Nice fish Captain
Hey Tom, it was a big fish and I trusted Kenny on it's size. I also knew that there were big AJ's there and if the Carbo didn't work out, I could switch to those. The visibility was a worry as well as the next ledges were a little deeper and had unknown conditions. Plus, I was beat and it was great to take a breather for a while before the dive and not worry about anything, lol. Great question, Best, Dan

Best, Dan
@@danmacmahon3973 thanks bro!
Best, Dan
That was a fish that 9 out of 10 guys couldn’t extract at recreational depths , great video 👍
Thanks JP, Kenny trailers his boat up that away quite a bit in the warmer months. I'll pass this along to him for sure. Best, Dan
Best, Dan
shout idol from Philippines your the best
Thanks Jack! Much appreciated! The best to you over there as well! Dan
Best, Dan
Nice one dan👍👍
Thanks NQ!
Tony, lol, I got a feeling that the next time I get into Lion Country I'll be humming that song! Perfect! Best, Dan
@@danmacmahon3973 Be Alert Always Always, and that's what I like about your gift, you are careful and Make that clear. Thanks for sharing your gift with us.👍🙏
Glad ur safe and no more deco, always wondered how much deco time you edited out. Would like to know dive plan, gases and all.
Best, Dan
DAN I HOPE THAT THIS DIVE WAS NOT YOUR LAST I HAVE WATCHED IT MANY TIMES TRULY A HARD ASS DIVE
Hey Patrick, def wasn't! Those 2 recent Hurricanes and now strong cold fronts have put a hurting on diving recently. I'll def be back out there as soon as the weather allows! Appreciate you watching and your comments! Best, Dan
that is like navy seal operation :D congratulations
Thanks MK, glad you enjoyed it! Best, Dan
Nice video, what power heads are you using. I was thinking about getting a couple just to carry for safety
Jim, I have the aluminum casings made at a local Machine Shop and do the rest myself. I use a Russian Military round, 7.62/54R. Neptonics (813-867-3250) and Spear Gods (727-432-1967) both have similar PH's for retail sale. Best, Dan
Dan. What speargun do you run?? And how are you mounting your light. Thanks again.. fellow diver
Adam, we make our own spear guns. I zip tie a piece of 5/16 ID air hose to the light and slide it onto a kill spike located beneath the main shaft. Best, Dan
Hey Dan love the videos. What mask with camera mount do you use?
Hey Orion, I use a black Gomask with the built in SS Gopro mount. I also use a gopro 6 Black. The gopro 7 Black is great as well, I have no experience with the gopro 8's or higher. Glad you like the videos. Best, Dan
Hey Dan did you get that other bottle ready just in case you needed to do more deco time?
GMVP, yes. I did about 10 minutes more deco than "suggested", but there's no harm/no foul in having my tank ready "just in case". Those few minutes might be critical in a bad situation. I felt fine and had no issues but I'm a big fan of being prepared! Best, Dan
a great video a question what tires and what pitch do you use? greetings and good fishing.
Thanks Roman! I'm not sure what you're asking? Please rephrase it and ask me again! Best, Dan
Good job sir🇵🇭
Thanks OD! Much appreciated! Best, Dan
Nice catch..
Nice fish brother . With risk comes reward. But sometimes the best plans alway have hicups. All goods ya made it back up and on deck with minimal problems. It was weird how the spear wouldn't push threw. Keep on doing what you do. We appreciate the ride. Stay safe
Thank you Tie, glad you liked the video! Best, Dan
Hey Monty, yeah those big Carbo's are tough...I was a little surprised that the spear didn't push through easier myself. Might have had something to do with the pusher was running on 2 hours sleep, lol. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan
Hey Dan where did you get your gun at? Trying to see how you hold the spare shafts on? Did speargods build it or someone else?
Hey Scott, we make the guns ourselves. The front shaft holder is made from a piece of Neptonics track inlay. The rear's were designed by myself and I had them made up in a local machine shop. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan
Thanks, Dan. Don’t people know that DANger ain’t your middle name? Nice catch. Stay sharp.
Best, Dan
Spearing good
Yeah, that's a killer spot!
Best, Dan
Epic Battle! I enjoyed watching this a second time.
Out of curiosity, what is the gas mixture you are using and is there a video on it. You guys are fantastic.
Thanks Bruce, I just mix to a standard 1.3 PO2 and an EAD of 4 Atm. The guys do find with that EAD and more HE would cost a lot more and has it's own problems. Thanks for watching and your comments! Best, Dan
It's good to be first to comment.
Love your videos.
Thanks Darryl! Much appreciated! Best, Dan
how much surface interval? (How long after 1st dive, or how long to off gas 240') (yeah, no clue on trimix).
Mr B. again, it can vary quite a bit. I never back dive with less than a 2 hour S.I. and it's usually much more than that. The shorter the S.I., the more likely you could have a DCS event. Best, Dan
Dan, what set up are you using for air? Mixed gas?
-Enjoy your videos
Hey KK, I personally like Nitrox up to 150' or so and then trimix after that. I've spearfished a lot on deep air in the 200' range in the past but haven't done that since I "discovered" Helium in the 90's. Glad you're enjoying the videos, Best, Dan
Hard Fkn Core, hope that things are going well since this video 🤙⚓😎
Hey Patrick, thanks brother! Yeah, all's good. Had 2 Hurricanes in the Eastern Gulf in the last 4-5 weeks, no diving. 2020 has really been something! Hoping we get some decent weather soon! Best, Dan
Yes sir, glad to hear it has been the weather...you'll be flying thru the blue space at warp speed...eagerly awaiting, APPRECIATED IN DETROIT 🤙⚓😎
Best, Dan
Is that a jug line marker that you throw out when you cross over that spot ?
Hey Mike, yes it is. I use professional kite cord, easy to see in the water, minimal drag and last forever. Best, Dan
verry difecult catch a fish.. nice one
Thanks Jack! Glad you liked it! Best, Dan
Diving to 185'' is demanding and tough just worrying about deco, bottom time, and narcosis (for me anyways). Amazing to shoot monsters deeper!......Rock on! :)
Thanks ZS, there's def a lot going on down there, was glad it worked out as well as it did! Glad you enjoyed the video! Best, Dan
Best, Dan
Hello what powerhead and his caliber are you using?
AP. I have the aluminum casing's made up by a local machine shop. I use a 7.62-54R cartridge.
Best, Dan
Did you develop any symptoms of DCS? Were you breathing O2 when you got aboard?
What are the jugs floating in the bucket for?
Hey KR, it's the marker buoy, probably just put into an empty bucket to secure it. Best, Dan
I'm looking at comment because I want to know what you use for fishing
HKB, I'm not sure of what you're asking? Sorry. Let me know and I'll def answer you. Best, Dan
this is EPIC SHIT MAN.... 240 ft , dark, silted out, giant grouper.... nothing more intense
i love the feeling after stuff like this on the way back up... its all over and calm just taking it all in and cruising to the top
Thanks Jason, much appreciated! It's def a great feeling to be on the way up with good fish and no Sharks! Even the small life can be cool as heck to observe during deco! Best, Dan
be carefull my friend safety first ok
OFW, man I hear that. I was literally 15 seconds from leaving it and punching out. The next team could have pulled it out. Glad he popped out when he did. Thanks for the comments and believe me, I'm with ya. Best, Dan
Pushin the envelope and felt kinda bad for the carbo.....but, as usual, a killer video.
AW, I def understand what you're saying.....and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for your comments. Best, Dan
Where you been Dan? Hope you’re healthy and doing well. Miss your videos !
Hey Beth, those 2 Hurricanes in the Eastern GOM and now these strong cold fronts have basically shut down offshore diving recently. As soon as I get a weather window, we'll be back out there. Nice to be missed! Appreciate you watching and your comments! Best, Dan
