    1 of many things I like A LOT about your videos is that along the way you give some text as to what you are thinking (almost like coaching tips). That 1) shows you really care about your audience and 2) those of us who want to learn and not just be entertained get a great education! Thank you!!! Keep up the great work!

      they made an experiment on pro basketball players: group a practiced physically, group b trained mentally like eyes closed doing every practice move in the head and in a couple month they noticed all groups developed more or like the same. that said: even the smallest thoughts you are allowed to have in a extreme dive really gets us in the atmosphere and you re totally right they teach and share a lot how to autonomously dive and be part of that environment instinctively. Utmost respect for the skill and passion of the diver.

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  Před 4 lety

      RG, a very rough maximum is 15'-20'. Longer shots can be taken if properly equipped but accuracy will suffer and free shafting is all about accuracy. If you do try it, please let us know how it goes! Best, Dan

  • @felipeguy12345
    @felipeguy12345 Před 4 lety

    Hey Dan, I notice you let your stringer float up once you hit a certain depth. What depth do you typically have to be at for that to work?

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  Před 4 lety

      Phillip, it depends. If the spear punctures the swim bladder on one or more of your fish, it won't gain buoyancy as well or maybe not at all. Other factors are visibility, current, sharks, deco time remaining (if any), surface conditions, etc. If you only have one medium or large sized fish, releasing it too early can cause the air bladder to explode and allow the fish and stringer to sink back down into the depths. Generally, the best bet is to not release until you're 30 feet or less from the surface. Best, Dan

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Troy, there's a million different variables...but 2-10 minutes of Deco for every minute of bottom time is a very rough scale. It could be a whole lot more in some circumstances. Best, Dan

      Zach, I started diving the MG in 1979. Bought a 24' Angler with a 350 Chevy and a Volve 280 outdrive. Amazing times and stories. Had no clue as to what we were doing but we managed to get it done and not get killed. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan

    nothing like trying to kill every grouper on a spot, the reason most recreational divers dislike commerical spear fisherman.

      Live and let live pal. We do things a little different here. This man isn’t doing it for “sport” he’s doing it commercially so people can go to their restaurant of choice and have fresh fish.
