Being a Golden Retriever Owner I can tell that it's not as easy as it seems to raise a Goldie. Even though they are one of the most intelligent and gentle dogs, there are quite a few challenges that every new parent goes through. So I decided to share all the advice and tips for raising a Golden Retriever.

Currently training my sweet 7 week old Cliff. He is doing so amazing. 2 accidents a day at the most, we’ve been taking him out every twenty minutes while he is awake.

I’ll be getting my 8 weeks old in 2025
I need some more time to get a bigger apartment (more doors) and save up money
In Sweden they cost 3000-4000$ for the first year 2000$ for the other years
What have you learned in these 9 months?
Did they cost or act different than you thought?
I am very much interested in a hiking friend

My Golden will be a year old at the end of this month. They're right. Takes about 7 days. She had a couple of accidents occasionally when we first got her at 7-weeks. Never had a poop accident. Her kennel is 6-feet from the door to the fenced in backyard. A kennel is essential for housebreaking and training in general. I used the bell method, kicking a little bell mounted close to the floor whenever I took her out. She got that after one day. The kennels (There's one next to my bed) now serve as her safe place. Doors never locked. It's just there and she loves them. The longest we've ever left her is 6-hrs. She has the run of the house and has never destroyed anything or got into the trash. This is the first Golden I've ever had. She's still puppyish with retriever training and I could not gun break her, not that I had any intention of hunting with her. I gun broke dogs of various breeds, even Poodles. Makes the 4th of July enjoyable for them. Labs mature a lot quicker than Goldens. At her age most Labs are finished. I love her though. She's stolen my heart. ~

Again, excellent pointers. Wish I knew then what I do now. Our toilet command was and is ‘hurry’. He only goes on grass and will certainly let us know that he needs it. Your vids are so helpful with puppy training and through to adulthood. 👋🏻

My puppy has had a whopping 4 accidents in the house and all was just pee. He was super easy to potty train. 3 times were by the back door so he knew to go out we just wasnt fast enough. The 4th my wife (new to owning a puppy) put the puppy in the crate for bedtime and didnt take him out before hand. So 100% of them was on us not on the pup.

Yeah sure! There can be many reasons behind dog eating their own poop like they might be hungry or they are probably trying to get your attention but yes a detailed video will soon be uploaded. Stay tuned :)

I'm not giving my puppy treats for pooping/peeing, a hardy praise is plenty, and it doesn't set them up for thinking they get a treat when they do their business as they should. Just my two cents.

I never scold my puppy when he potty in the house but then if he is getting potty and keeps his potty position we open the door and then he runs outside on his own and poops down stairs near our parking 🥰 we tell him bad boy if he pooped and we didn't know and he gets scolded but not much we scold him by showing the poop and then he understands and doesn't poop in the home for that day

Home cooked food is good. Just don’t give chocolate or onions and other bunch of things. Back home in Nepal we give him home cooked food and now he is 14 years old. He does-not have any illness like the dogs have in general in America. Just don’t give them ready made food that you buy in Walmart. And also be careful with the videos you watch, must of them are sponsored that indirectly asks you to take your dogs to vet often and charge you hundreds of bucks for no reason. Good luck ! These creatures worth your attention and love unconditionally like they give to us with no second thoughts. Also make sure Just because you spend money on him/ her doesnot mean you are doing great, love them like you do to your kids.

Got my retriever/goldendoodle mix pup at 4 months he was scared to come in the house when I finally got him he wouldn’t move past the living room so I slept in there with him then he started peeing in the hallway and he’s now 7 months and I can’t get him to pee anywhere else but the hallway. He’s scared to go out even without a lease he won’t budge. If he does go out it’s only to go up and down the steps then he hurries back in. Any help at all? He’s so energetic I want him to play outside

    • @RetrieverCare
      @RetrieverCare  Před rokem

Such behavior is often found in pups in that age but its common since they are new to this world and it takes time for them to get used to it. Try taking your outside just for normal walks, if he doesn't come try to excite him with a treat or a toy he likes by luring him outside. Also try to socialize him with as many humans and dogs as possible if not outside then invite guests and other dogs at your house. I hope I was of any help! Thank you so much :)

Be careful with the crate advice. It is true that dogs will hold their pee or poop for as long as they can while in their crate but they very much will both poop and pee in there if left for too long and it is not a pleasant cleanup operation. Personally I use a pen and my dogs very rarely have to be in their pen when they are not sleeping but people watching this may think that their little fur ball will hold on indefinitely and this is not the case.

Goldens are usually easy to train when it comes to simple habits like pooping and peeing. I think your golden retriever first needs to go through obedience training with you to become more obedient. We're glad we could help😄

Can’t really trust this video. Why not show us how to train our golden retriever puppy when it’s snowing and below freezing and all they want to do is roll around and play in the snow and refuses to use the bathroom? Or when it’s pouring rain outside and they want to roll in the grass and get wet and refuses to poop? All puppy training videos that i watched are always sunny, nice weather.
