  • After devastating wildfires ripped through California’s wine country (where Abraham and Pechet have homes) in 2017, the cofounders started Homebound in nearby Santa Rosa to help other homeowners rebuild-managing each step from building permits and insurance claims to design and construction. “As we watched people try to navigate the process and the complexity of everything they had to do to build a home, we knew there were really simple technology tools that were used in other industries that could make the process simpler,” says CEO Pechet, 38. The market is fragmented when it comes to contractors and builders. U can lose a lot of money really quickly or get ripped off from the very beginning if you don't know what you're doing. Most people if they're lucky build one house in their lifetime so they don't know what fair market price is. I think homebound provides transparency and fairness to the consumer.

So they build houses, okay. So what do they do different to be “billion dollar” company. Legitimately no explanation of what her company does different besides her personal background story.

I’m actually concerned about the long term viability of this company. They are essentially going to be the ambulance chasers of natural and man made disasters. On one end, with climate change and natural disasters increasing, they will have a customer base. However, that’s not going to make them a multibillion dollar company. Unless, they find ways to save on costs and products/services to bump their revenue (which will likely hurt their moral bottom line), I see what will be akin to a habitat for humanity for profit.

They’re starting with homes destroyed by wildfires, but they should be able to easily expand into all new custom homes across the US. The process of building a new home on a piece of land isn’t very different from building a new one that burnt down
