Movie was really good. But the book was just so much better. The book had a lot of small things that paid off tremendously in the end. Plus, I don’t like how they changed the ending of the movie to how they restricted Oasis access on certain days.
In the book it ends with something like: “for the first time, I didn’t want to log on”, which was really impactful way to end, showing the growth for the character.
It needs a sequel

An anorak is actually a type of coat, which became associated with kids who let their moms buy their clothes for them. The coat was always the main use for the name. Saying it was a slang term for people is like saying that people are called crocs.
I'm a Brit whose in his 50's. Anoraks were still a fairly common item of clothing when I was a child. And the narrator in the video got the pronunciation seriously wrong. The movie got it right.
The enitre movie is just packed with eastereggs. I love it, I had so much fun rewatching it.

You guys should absolutely read the book, whilst the movie makes it seem like this all took within weeks, the book lasts for more then several months and maybe even years (haven't read it in a while), so there's many things the movie missed out on.
I bought the 2nd book as soon as it came out but I've only read like the first 20 pages of it, even up till now I still haven't picked it up again so I can't say much about it.
The hunt happened in the span of about 6-7 years

Another fact, Ludus is an academic gaming term which when translated from Latin means 'Play' or 'Game' and is subterm for ludolody, a game theory that focuses on the interactivity, realness and structure of games with it's opposite being ludology, which prioritises narrative over gameplay.
Never heard the Anorak UK slang though despite living in the UK. I guess it's not something that people use anymore.

@@argh432 Honestly reading the book first kind of ruined the movie for me because I love the book so much and I know so many people love the movie but I really dislike it. They kind of ruined the story.
personally I think the book did the clues better, but I think the movie is overall better. Like the clues in the book required a knowledge or latin, it required you to get a perfect score in a pac-man game, and so on. The bad guys ( the IOI) felt far more oppressive. Other than those two things, I think the movie does it better.

Sarcasm aside, you are right, the characters were pretty obnoxious at first, and some of the message was kinda ham fisted, but i think they grew, even if it was just a little by the end.

No one at IOI had an avatar name. It was always their employee number. Having a 6 to start your number meant you were part of the Oology Division, or the group hunting Halliday's egg.

Ok I feel like I should explain anorak. So it's actually an Inuit (Eskimo) word for a heavy winter coat & in the UK it became associated with geeky/nerdy types specifically because of trainspotters. So train enthusiasts, commonly called "trainspotters" in the UK naturally have a penchant for good outerwear & the anorak became something of a uniform for that community. So much so that people began to refer to trainspotters simply as "anoraks" & over time it's meaning has become closer to the description in the video, with one important caveat; it is not restricted to pop culture subjects. An anorak is anyone with very specific obsession whether that be trains, construction equipment, transistor radios, lawn mowers, or whatever.

I think it might be the pronunciation- should be - an-or-ack. I lived over there for a few years and used to hear it all the time - but that was in the late 90s . People used it when referring to train and plane spotters.

I aways think about that way Parzival win the race is a mention to DK2. In the wolrd that have circus stage and you race in a rollercoaster, in the begning of the race you can go reverse and catch a barrel that make you faster enought to strike the enemies and get closer to the first place of the race.

another fact: in the book the character ultraman appears, but they didnt had the rights for him to appear in the movie (i think they didnt even botherd in trying to buy the rights for using ultraman in the movie)
Also, Irok was supposed to be a bit character whose only important moment was tipping off the Sixers about Wade and Wade was supposed to be out of shape and chubby for the first half of the story (completely pointless change).
