- "Blades of Steel" is an absolute all-time hockey classic, either the arcade game or the excellent NES and Game Boy versions. Having sadly skipped the SNES, I was quite looking forward to this Nintendo 64 version, but Konami kinda lost their way. It is officially licensed NHL game so there are all of the teams and players from the time period, the presentation is spot on with excellent atmosphere and audio commentary but... by trying to make more of a simulation, it misses out n the fun or the original arcade roots. Plus some really dodgy controls poil the best laid plays. Still a nice effort, but there are better ice hockey games on the N64. Enjoy some Red Wings versus L.A. Kings action!

The memories! I remember playing 4 player coop with my cousins when they would come spend the night. Damn this just took me back. Good days.
The frame rate is 160 frames per hour.
Me and my son, and my brother-in-law. Stated up all night one night playing This game. All night. I was the red wings, and he was the kings. Believe it or not Thanks a lot for the memories.
My pleasure. ^_^
holy shit , talk about old games loved this game when i was little
the memories this video gives me, holy shit
Back when ea didn't have a monopoly on sports games
More production value then NHL 24
This is an emulator because the frame rate on an actual console isn’t this bad.
such a fun game! used to play it at my mate's house all the time :)
Dylan Parker I still prefer the original 8 bit outings, a real shame there was no "Blades of Steel" on SNES.
@ShiyuGL I got this game recently but I can't find the Create-a-player mode on it where can I find it?
I am not sure there is one...
@@ShiryuGL oh I got the manual with the game and it says you can do that plus on the game you can do arena selection as well how do I do that as well =)
The NES version owns this.
+Jason Hogan You said it. the NES version even owns the arcade game orginal! Only the Game Boy comes close.
Sometimes working withint the tehcnological limits of inferior hardware produces a better game as it was the case look up the original arcade version for "Blades of Steel" or play it if you have the chance and then put it side to side with the NES version. Even the Game Boy plays better than the arcade version.
Anybody know what hardware limitation causes this hitching, was it cpu, memory, etc?
The game looks good but holy shit that frame rate
What game was it where your goalie went on fire or something? And sometimes you could build a brick wall in your net? Was I dreaming all that as a kid??
"Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey" for the Nintendo 64?
Yeah, that's the one man! I was just looking at clips of it on youtube, what a game!
Prequel to my all time favourites: the "NHL Hitz" series on Gamecube/Ps2/Xbox.
@@ShiryuGL Wish they would make a new one with that style so much fun!
@@ShiryuGL Remember playing Gretzky's 3D Hockey at the arcade
Is this supposed to be choppy? I'm hoping the answer is yes because I downloaded it and I wanted to make sure it wasn't a dud
Sadly yes.
Looks a lot like Wayne Gretzky 3D hockey on N64, which I really loved. Is this the same game with a different name?
Nope, that one is from Midway, this is Konami.
@@ShiryuGL Amazing the N64 got so many Hockey games!
@@Blas4ublasphemy sadly not in Europe. z_z
@@ShiryuGL Maybe because of the weird frame rate issues of European TV's at the time?
@@Blas4ublasphemy nah, PAL 50hz would not make these games unplayable. It was just a question of sport popularity, the same way football soccer games went unreleased in the US.
This is nothing like the original NES Blades of Steel. Developers should have been fired for making this game!!
I cried with envy for that framerate lol but rly the NES version is 10x better
Frame rate = 2
Its just not the same witbout the crowd heckler whistling extremely loud
OMG the memories
Why would anyone choose poor ice conditions?
For added challenge.
Drake brought me here.
No fighting either? What gives?!
Pacifist teams.
Nintendo-released NES Ice Hockey runs smoother than this!
I think it's his recording. I don't think the framerate is actually this bad. It sounds like he's playing on an emulator with all that skipping in the music. Unless this is the remix version...
Es bueno el juego lo malo son amistosos no clasicatorios como el fe fútbol
What the f... is it!
It's 2019, and I just heard of this game. Looks terrible.
It's not good; the control is awful and feels like your skater is in mud
NHL 99 was far superior to this craptastic game
"Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey" was superior to both.
