If nothing else i hope the potential Donkey Kong movie and the in progress expansion to the theme parks renews interest in the character overall. Just watching the clip of him getting the fire flower is so cool; imagining him getting a Mario 3D World style game faith 4 playable characters, or making him more playable and present in mainline Mario games going forward. I just want something. DK is basically the reason Nintendo even exists as a video company and they try to pretend like the series doesn’t even exist anymore. Not as bad as some franchises but at least Samus got a brand new adventure on the Switch. I’d love to see something new with him, and just more Donkey Kong related stuff in general.

25:00 why did CK/DK age while mario didn'r? it's very possible that being in another "universe" has a different effect on time. The only time we EVER see DK in the Mushroom Kingdom or Yoshi'S Island is one time. Then presumably DK returns home while Mario stays in the Mushroom Kingdoom.
I wish you mentioned Crazy Kong - both the game and the character. It's quite a story!

I kind of like this theory of who Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong are.
OMG I can't tell you how much I howled with laughter the first time I watched the video about all the members of the Kong Family, and right after the LifeAlert commercial, we smash cut to Mentok happily proclaiming "Wrinkly Kong!" 🤣🤣🤣
I still remember when I first learned that Wrinkly Kong passed away in DK64, thinking for some reason that after completing DKC3, there was a cutscene after you beat the game that Dixie and Kiddy raced back to Wrinkly's Save Cave to tell her the news that K. Rool was defeated, only to discover her lifeless body. Don't ask me why I thought this, but I totally did! I think it was around the time of lunch break rumors in the late 90s ('98 - '00 was when I was in middle school) along the lines of "Pikablu" and "If you use a specific Game Shark code, you can bring Aerith back to life in FF7", so I kind of concluded in my head that because I hadn't beat DKC3, there was totally a cutscene at the end that would depict Wrinkly Kong dying or already dead.

Can I suggest you talk about the world of WarioWare, information on Wario's friends since many of them have some interesting backstories, and if the world of Rhythm Heaven is related to the Mario universe (?) since many characters from the former has crossed over in WarioWare since many key people worked on both RH and WW? Okay but you did kind of Cook , So I'm going to help stretch out the conspiracy for no reason. In Japanese, Ojii-san is how you refer to someone's grandfather, But Uncle is Oji-san. SO any step in communicating Cranky and Current DK's relation could have potentially been mixed up. Then at some point Father (Otou-san) was thrown into the mix at some point. So I believe, everyone's confused and no one actually knows who Cranky is or how he's related to Current DK.

I’m gonna go ahead and debunk that Jumpman theory. The Mario Movie, Mario and Luigi’s father is Jumpman. He owns the plumbing company and he has the exact same features as Mario
The obvious solution to all these familial relationship retcons is incest. Is Cranky DK's father, or his grandfather? Is Diddy DK's nephew, or his cousin? Well, what if DK's mother is Cranky's daughter? What if DK's brother is also his uncle: DK Jr., father of Diddy? Solved.

I liked the theory, though there probably isn't much to it, that the Donkey Kong in _Returns_ is a third Donkey Kong, and its Cranky is the DK of the original _Country_ series.

Honestly, i'd just assume that the Donkey Kong name was just heralded as some kind of cross-osmosis where Mario (and advertisements) calls Donkey Kong as some kind of title to sound cool, like goliath beetles. everyone other than the Kongs just coincidentally calls the ape that looks like Donkey Kong, and any babies that looks similar to him as Junior. so we and nintendo would call him donkey kong junior, but junior could just be a nickname that donkey kong gives to his son. living in the real world away from DK island probably did a number on Cranky's body. whereas Jr/the Current DK are probably far more primed due to bananas having magical powers in-series. i guess that DK island had leaders, just not ones called Donkey Kong, but Cranky started the trend of the leader being called Donkey Kong.
would be kind of neat if it turned out that the Manky Kong line turned out due to a past Donkey Kong choosing Cranky as his protegé, or maybe something involving wooing Wrinkly. it'd be a kain and abel-type story. on the flip side, how do some of the other kongs gain their names at birth? was Funky already born cool? Tiny and Chunky could be justified either being born undernourished or just gigantic.

It's a play on the Japanese pronunciation of "Bros." or "Brothers". The "th" sound isn't naturally pronounceable in Japanese phonetics ("th" is pretty rare across the global language landscape and fairly unique to... Indo-European languages, or some subset of them), so when pronouncing "th" in Japanese, "the" becomes "za". "Suupaa Mario Burazaazu". Mentok thinks it sounds funny, so he never misses a chance to say it.

Why do people euphemize suicide by saying "lost their battle with depression"? Not only does it seem belittling to that person, it's entirely inaccurate and inadequate to the description of what actually happened. I mean, you don't lose your battle with racism and decide to become a racist or lose your battle with vacations and decide to take a vacation. No more PC crap please.
I don’t understand the anger over this phrase. It’s a commonly used expression and I didn’t use it to belittle anyone or be PC. I’ve literally seen people who have depression say they are “losing their battle and need help” when it gets tough. I wrote that segment to shed light on Erika and her work considering people meme the TV show all the time and probably don’t know the faces behind it. It’s okay not to like the expression but your comment comes off condescending, especially with that terrible racism/vacation analogy. Regardless, I hope you have a good one man.
@@TheMentok No anger here, I'm pointing out that it implies a person's victimhood and absolves them of their actions. It moves the occurrence from an action that one chooses to take (accurate) to a fate that befalls one (inaccurate). I'm sure you don't mean it this way but it's part of the manipulation of language with the intention of obscuring the truth. The analogies I used are "terrible" because they only make as much sense as implying that choosing suicide is something that happens to someone in the same way that choosing a vacation is something that happens to someone.
I see where you’re coming from. This is a much better explanation and my bad for misinterpreting your intention here. I’d argue that sometimes we focus more on the nuances of the words being said rather than the subject matter and while I agree with how you broke down the expression, it’s at a point of usage where I don’t think it leaves much room for error on interpretation. Ultimately, CZcams tends to crack down on sensitive subject matter especially in videos featuring family friendly characters so sometimes I feel a bit limited with word choice, so this instance boiled down to that.

For what it's worth, It's easy to tell by your videos that you aren't simply regurgitating Wikipedia, you're definitely doing your due diligence when prepping for these videos.
