  • How To Make Custom Inner Fender Splash Guards!
    In this video I replace my worn out inner fender well splash and dust guards, on my 1995 GMC Suburban, with a custom set made by myself. I was able to source some sheet rubber material and use the original splash guards as a template. Then I just cut out the new splash guards with a set of sharp scissors and used a leather hole punch for the holes.

    Stumbled onto this one totally by accident. Complete coincidence, but about the time this video was made I had already figured out I was going to replace missing and destroyed fenderwell liners the exact same way! I hadn't gotten around to sourcing the sheet rubber yet but I was wondering whether or not this would actually work. I guess I can go ahead and add the job to my ongoing list of automotive chores. :) Thanks for posting!

    Another way to make hole is a open hole punch chisel style punch which can make bigger holes if required then a leather punch but for your application the leather hole punch worked perfect
    As for colour matching or custom colours you can get rubber paint which needs a special primer or fabric dye or paint which I used to use in the Body shop I owned
    Your video are simple straight to the point and you even describe how you found the product instead of saying it's in the link below awesome narratives and descriptions I would wish that more people who make CZcams videos follow your style and technique keep up the great work even Old pros enjoy seeing your enthusiasm in maintaining vehicles which too many people are to do or cannot afford it because of rising cost at shops

    I went to my local pick and pull and pay salvage yard and purchased a large sheet of car trunk liner material off an old car. I did the same thing you did and so far its working well. Paid $5.00 for the whole trunk sheet. Once it wears out, I'll be heading back to the salvage yard to get me another piece. Seems durable enough.

    Another outstanding video. the timing of your video was perfect! I just installed new injectors and glowplugs---over two weekends. I also had to reinstall a new wiring harness on passenger side for glow plugs. The old splash guards were toast. Rather than pay $50 for a replacement ebay set--I did my own. So far seem perfect---and just in time for our first big snow fall....lol

    @georgewashington938 Před 4 lety +3

    Nice job. Leaving the splash-guard long looks like it might provide better coverage and help keep the engine bay a little cleaner.
    The only question I would have is about heat and fire resistance difference between the OEM and DIY material. Since you have the originals and leftover from the job, it might be worth doing a test to make sure a surprise fire doesn't popup in your future.

Jimmy, there are 2 other smaller guards that go up in the fender area besides that big one . in case someone can't make their own like you are . That company , Jimmy ,has a catalog that you really should get !! they have one that covers only that years of trucks 88 to 98 ! chevy . the number of parts is impressive , P.S. If anyone does get the catalog to order those guards , be sure you order the right ones for the "Gross weight " on 3/4 ton trks. The big shield s are $16.95 ea. !

      I can't really comment on that. I haven't been using it all that much. Not because I don't like it or anything like that I still think it's amazing (based off what I've seen online) but more so just because I lazily have not repurchased it in a while. I would watch the videos from Project Farm. when I did buy a few bottles I did put it in everywhere from my power steering to my oil crankcase and also my gas tank. In my limited use I've had no problems whatsoever. Hope that helps!
