I got this book the day of release, then immediately started reading. I would read until like 1am then wake up and start reading again, I was (and totally still am after finishing) ADDICTED TO THESE BOOKS! They are too good!

I just finished Fourth Wing recently based on your recommendation and I loved it! It took forever to be available at my library and it looks like Iron Flame has a long hold time as well lol. You're the only other person I know who can get through books as quickly as I do and we have a lot of similar tastes. I wanted to recommend the Witch Walker series by Charissa Weaks to you. It's a fantasy romance that I think you'd enjoy. The fourth book is set to come out in January if you wanted to check it out around then. Anyway, loving the new book style videos! Glad to see you having fun with something new 😄

I just finished Iron Flame and then found your video. I'm trying to convince everyone I know to read Fourth Wing so I can talk about it hahahha. This book was great and I was floored by the ending. I can't believe I have to wait 6 more months for Onyx Storm! I hope a book store in my area does a midnight release of it. I've never gone to one and it sounds like fun!

I haven’t read Fourth Wing and have been debating on it because of your videos. I think I will wait until they are all out though… I know the pain of a cliff hanger! My next read will be hopefully “What the River Knows” if my hold is available soon!😊

I remember those midnight releases of books back in the day. We’re the same age lol. But I still have all my original editions of the Harry Potter books even though I won’t read them again.
You make this series sound so good and interesting, and I’m really not into books like the hunger games or the divergent series. Dystopian stuff just isn’t my jam. Should I give this one a chance? I do really love fantasy books and fantasy/romance.

those HP midnight releases were such a core part of growing up!
You should totally read it! It’s a fantasy romance, not really a dystopian series at all. I only compare to divergent because of the training school and faction/quadrant type of idea in the world. And the fact that a lot of us who liked hunger games/divergent also like fourth wing!
But if fantasy romance is your jam, you’ll prob love this!
There's the setup for a dystopia that the author deliberately fails to follow through on probably because it would conflict with her real life political opinions. I don't even mind that Rebecca believes what she does. I simply mind that she put in dystopian "vibes" to evoke a series of tropes she has no intention to do anything with because she (Or rather Red Tower) knows her audience doesn't care.

I enjoyed this video despite me not caring for the Fourth Wing series. Your enthusiasm for this series makes me really want to find a a book or books that will also get me that excited to read.
I unfortunately am one of the few people who did not like divergent and the hunger games when the books and movies came out. For that reason, I don’t think I will enjoy Fourth Wing. But I am not giving up in my search for books that excite me.
The series that excites me the most was the 4 original Percy Jackson books and the 4 books that followed that. The reason why I enjoyed that series was probably because of the relatability of the characters, the relationship between characters and the world building. And I loved how romance wasn’t one of the main genres, but more like an accessory. No book series has gotten me that excited since.
I like romance but I prefer if the romance wasn’t so obvious from the get go. I would like to see the romance build up throughout a series. The Witchlands does a pretty good job of that.
If anyone knows a book or books like what I described please recommend!

@@jaimefokI have not. I know you love that series. I’ve heard mixed reviews but I’m willing to give at least the first book a shot. Problem is I can’t get my hands on it from the library. The waitlist is like 100 people 😭.
I read one dark window and enjoyed it despite it being love at first sight. I liked the side characters for the most part, and the female lead was strong and independent but not like a Mary sue (which i hate). Know of any less hyped books that fits the criteria? I would love to hear about some underexposed books. I feel like they can be just as fun even without all the tiktok hype.

I’m watching this with my sister, and when she goes “there definitely some characters I changed my mind on.” I went *cough* Sloan *cough*, and when she said “there are some characters I’m confused about I went *cough* Dain *cough*
Also to ease you mind about the chapter headers a bit, it would show her rank at the time reviving the correspondence. So since Violet was a cadet when she got the letters when she was a cadet, that’s what they would go by. I am VERY worried about Violet and Xaden though. I keep a you’ll be the death of me count, which counts how many times one of them says something along the lines of “you’ll be the death of me” to the other and it was super high by the end of iron flame. There was also this, VERY ominous line. I can’t remember it exactly, but Xaden said something along the lines of “when you die I die and we will meet malek (god of death) together.” AND O FROZE AND LITERALLY CRIED CAUSE THATS FORESHADOWING IF I EVER SAW SOME.

Spoilers..One thing i felt this book lacked was Rhiannon, Ridoc and Sawyer i really wanted them more in the book. And i feel like the only time we feel Violet was close with them was more to the end like when Sawyer was being attacked. I know there were a lot of squad moments but i still feel there was something missing. I also agree with you on Xaden and Violet taking the entire book to trust each other

The problem is the only character who had an actual start to a redemption arc only had the beginning of one so far and is a character who didn't even need to exist in the story to begin with. To compare Dain to Zuko is very laughable.

If you want another good book. Read Cassandra Clare's SwordCatcher! Its such a good fantasy read. Very different to FW /IF but its very well written :)
•The magic system doesn't so much get "expanded" in Fourth Wing as Yarros comes up with a bullshit reason to give Xaden a second power. This is unfortunate because the magic system is already kind of iffy. The way it's described, you would think there would be a diversity of powers just as vast if not more so than Devil Fruits in One Piece, but no. In fact, the rules seem set up so that the powers are only limited to a select few powers (except when they're not). If Rebecca really wanted to make Xaden a mind-reader then it probably would have been more sensible to make it an extension of his shadow powers than to make up a nonsensical rule about dragon inheritance that is likely only ever going to be used this once.
•What politics? So much of the batshit insane worldbuilding still remains unexplained in this book. The closest we get to an explanation is a bunch of griffin riders pointing out that there's no reason for Basgaiath to kill off their own cadets and this is treated as those griffin riders being the crazy ones. At the end of the day, the worldbuilding is driven by Rebecca Yarros's non-existent understanding of military logistics and classified information which is really weird given she's a military wife.

there was much more to the magic system being expanded more than Xaden’s second signet… I wasn’t even really referring to that when I mentioned it. But we learned more about the source of magic, how to craft runes, and a lot more about the gryphon riders and how they use magic.
We also learn a lot more about the history of how Basgiath and the wards were formed in the first place, why they were formed, and get a lot more info on the previous rebellion.
Maybe you just skimmed through it, but there’s a lot more to the book than the few points you’ve mentioned here!
Again, it’s 100% fine if you didn’t like the book… I didn’t write it haha. But I’m just responding because your long multiple comments on my video show me that you’re somewhat passionate about it as well.
@@jaimefok "Where magic comes from" was explained at the beginning of the first book, so it's not really new. The fairytale Violet is told about the venin explains pretty clearly that it comes from the planet and makes you evil if not filtered through a dragon (something I'm sure Nicol Bolas would have found hilarious)
The history of the wards doesn't really mean much when the whole world built around them doesn't really make a lot of sense. It all comes back to Yarros having a very poor understanding of, among other things, fascism. Why bother keeping the wards and venin secret in the first place? Why bother hiding all of this except to drive a plot that doesn't make sense? A competent fascist regime would be scaremongering about venin 24/7 and probably even making up things about them just to drive more fear into their population.
@@GatekeeperGuardian-wv3cd lol I didn’t say “where magic comes from” did I? I said “the source of magic”. Very different. Yes, we learned where magic comes from in the first book. But we discovered so much more about it in the second… what forms it can take, how to control it, manipulate or weave it into different forms, channel it through different objects or people etc.
About the “leaders” keeping certain threats and policies a secret, it’s believable to me that a governing body might hide certain knowledge to maintain control of a population. That’s not a new concept and happens in the real world, whether for good or bad.
@@jaimefok The problem is that classified information isn't just classified just for the sake of classifying it. There's a rhyme and reason to it except in this book. In this book it's just a conspiracy for the sake of having a conspiracy.
@@GatekeeperGuardian-wv3cd the reason that we know of is that the leaders want to maintain the image that they have control and the most power. they fear that if people realize they are not actually that safe and protected, they will turn against the governing body. it's been mentioned multiple times!
