- "It has more character than the German rivals"
Welcome to the Jaguar XJ L Autobiography!
When you think of luxury saloons, the mind tends to gravitate towards the trusty German giants: BMW, Mercedes Benz, even Audi (and rightly so) Not many think of the British challenger; Jaguar.
We have had some great experiences with Jaguar (minus my cursed X-Type Estate!)
So we were thrilled when Phill offered us his top spec, XJ L Autobiography to review.
Join us as we run through the many luxury features this car has to offer, as well as the many reasons we would choose this over the German equivalents!
This car is now for sale!!!

310,000 miles. That’s incredible. And the condition of the car is fantastic. It’s a testament to the quality of the engines and engineering of the Jaguar. Who said JLR products don’t last!
We forgot to dive into the mileage. It really is a testament, it has been well loved during its life!
Thank you for watching!

To be fair, having worked in the motor trade for many years, I could say from experience that I have seen 10 times the amount of high mileage BMW's than I have Jaguars.
Much rather have a 7 series BMW than one of these, as I like sitting in a modern quality interior, and not a 1970's drinks cabinet.
German cars in this sector DO have a high quality interior, I think you're confusing 'quality' with 'chintzy', as that is how I have always experienced Jags.
@@DjNikGnashers BMW isn’t Chintzy? Have you seen the new 7 series with its folding down cinema screen, crystal dashboard & door trims and gigantic beaver tooth grill and split headlights? That car has absolutely zero class whatsoever, screams ‘look at me, I’m a Chinese businessman’.
I would say the G11 is the last classy 7 series. The interior although a bit boring to look at, was well put together and overall the car is rather handsome. Shame BMW have lost their way completely.
@@TJW04 Yes the new XM is a disgusting piece of crap.
Some of the newer BMW's are starting to get horrible styling I agree.
The normal level 5 and 3 series are still very solid and decent inside and out.
My main point was reliability, as the OP somehow thinks the brand which finished in the bottom 3 or ALL brands on every reliability survey of the past 10 years, is now somehow reliable just because he had one lucky experience.
I'm quarter of the way to 330k! Here's hoping
I'm no expert with these vehicles but something about Jags always stuck out to me. When everyone wanted a merc/bmw as a child, I was the odd one out who wanted the Jag. Really gorgeous and unique cars.
I own from brand new a 2018 model Jaguar XJL Autobiography - 67,000 miles. Best car in 47 years of high mileage I have ever owned. Beautiful inside and out. Reliable, dependable, 3.0 V6 Diesel utterly economical with great accelerartion and smooth Could not recommend more highly.
67k high mileage ?.
@@Supraboyes I'm referring to high mileage over 47 years of owning cars - not high mileage on the XJ Autobiography
As a massive lifelong Jag fan, I was never 100% over the x351, until I owned one. Absolutely incredible machines. I could never understand the back-end design, but I think it is based on the series 3 XJ with its triangular rear lights. Great video guys, thanks.
That just oozes luxury and comfort.. I'd so easily fall asleep in the back of that .. even on a journey to tesco from yours @kenny 🤣🤣 ... really like how your mixing it up with these kind of reviews 👌👌 keep on smashing it lads
Thank you for the kind words dude! 🙏
It really is THAT comfortable, I want to do a road trip in it just so j can chill in back & watch TV!

A few things I disagree with you on. I own a 3.0ltr supercharged XJ and those engines are no slouch. 340bhp and 320ftlbs or 434NM of torque. The torque delivery is present from very low revs which makes the car extremely driveable.
Secondly, I know the styling is subjective but there's no angle that this car is ugly from. You kept saying it's not a pretty car, Of course it isn't, it's muscular, aggressive, it has purpose and presence. There's no way you can mistake an XJ for any other car.
Thirdly, it has air suspension but only at the rear.
I have the SWB portfolio and I can't fault it. It's effortless to drive, handles better than a car that size has any right to, and makes you feel absolutely special.
I've had BMW, Lexus, Mercedes and the XJ is just head and shoulders above then in almost every regard.
Oh we definitely did not say the 3.0 Supercharged was a slouch. It was just the Torque stat that surprised us.
I do agree with you that the car does look "handsome". I just wouldn't call it pretty because it's muscular and striking.
I wasn't 100% on the air suspension as he had some sensors etc changed on the front end.
Thanks
Ken
They just seemed to be pointing out the torque which really helps 0 to 60 acceleration ie the acceleration you will be using most when off the track. Like the TDV6~300bhp diesels, which have 720NM torque. The 3.0 SC petrol produces more BHP but even with supercharger linear delivery of power, it cannot keep up with the torque particularly with the twin turbo versions that cover the entire rev range. Same BHP but half torque means that even heavier diesel XFs can outpace XJ petrol, with torque being key.
@GrumpyGrebo I agree. The twin turbo V6 diesel has phenomenal torque. TBH I'm baffled by how that was achieved. Still, it certainly has more pull than the petrols, even the V8 supercharged 575.
Love this car makes you feel like royalty 😅 great video once again guys! 🥰
Bmw all day ❤
I'll have to try and pinch him off it more often for you :).
Thanks babe xxxx
Hell yeah!! Upgrade my passenger princess experience 😋 xxxx
Drew is loving being a passenger princess a little too much 💁🏼♀️💅
😂😂 it's where I belong gurl 💅

Its a beautiful car from every angle...greetings from Ferntree Gully. Australia
It sure is!
Thank you.
Ken
Look at this car and try and convince me that the equivalent BMW/MERC/AUDI are better looking -YOU CAN'T -THIS CAR IS A STUNNER EVEN IN THE PITCH DARK LET ALONE DAYLIGHT - FROM ANY ANGLE !!.
PS - I have an XF and as soon as i win the lottery I'm getting one of these beauties.
These XJ/XF/F type models will age beautifully and attain the same design status as the E Type has in the coming years .
The editing just gets better and better 👌 Another awesome review Kenny and Drew, I really do like a Jag so much quality and luxury 😈 But I'm bmw through and through 🤣🤣🤣👍🏴
You are gentleman, thank you for the kind words as always dude! 🙏
😂 I figured you may disagree 👀😂

@@accelerateyoutube 🤣👍 thanks mate
Bought one a few years back, bargain and beautiful build quality. Everyone wants a lift!! Only complaint is JLR dealers who are incompetent. Thankfully i have a specialist ....
Wow stunning car. Is that my wedding car for next year. If he keeps it long enough. Fantastic
You know where they're like Gav, there will be 6 more cars by then 😂
- Drew
the main reason to go for the L is the rear luxury space and the reference system that is specifically designed for the XJL. 27 speakers 1300w surround with several firsts in sound technology for an automobile.
Hi guys, nice to see my Red Jag XF S being featured in your new video 😀
Thank you. Hope you are enjoying it. My dad couldn't stay away from Jaguar and only owned the Focus a short while before he realized his mistake.
Thanks
Ken
Yes very nice car and even better after it had a remap done earlier this year. it made a big difference.@@accelerateyoutube
Bought mine brand new in 2017 and it’s the best car I’ve had. Zero issues
Great vid guys.
Great video. love an X351 - subscribed
That XJ looks far nicer then any newer BMW with those hideous front ends. BMW reliability is even worse then Jaguar and that is really saying something
Completely agree! Ive always like Jaguar's styling, BMW on the other hand seem to have really lost their way.
Thank you for watching!
- Drew
DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE CAR. The XJL turns heads everywhere ‼️‼️
It really does! It is a very striking car!
Thank you for watching
- Drew
Undoubtedly, the most beautiful car in the world 🌎.
I own two BMWs, a manual 6-speed 530i E60 and an E39 M5.
However, I still need to own Jags...
- Mk2
- XJ-S
- XJ12 S3
- X300 XJR
- X308 XJR
- X351
I worked at Jag as a development engineer for 10 years, so it's a company very close to my heart.
Awesome video guys
Lovely looking car 😂
I faced the same question 5 years ago and I bought a 7series eventually. No regrets so far
I love how absolutely nobody talks about the fact that this beast has 310 THOUSAND MILES and still looks brand new !!
Unreal isn't it. Also for sale very soon.
Thanks
Ken
I personally love every aspect of the XJ, especially the rear lights.
Was thinking about buying one, but decided agains it due to the short comings of this vehicle. For an example, I have fairly long legs and need for the driver's seat to have the possibility to extend towards my knees when sitting. Also the car that I was looking at seemed that the buttons were melting. I found out that this was a more than common occurrence and is not what I expect from a "Luxury" vehicle. I also missed features as simple as a Heads-Up display that I think is not even provided on any XJ. All in all, I think that I will stick with my BMWs and Benzes.
Thank you for sitting at the rear seats to illustrate the headroom. Ive always been sceptic about this car's enormous length but with mediocre interior room. Its not that bad tho.
I really wanna get this but the roads in my country are really bad, the ground clearance.
That looks like a place you could just live in 🤣
I know! I want to do a road trip just so I can chill in the back and watch TV!
- Drew
First time watching your review.....great car....great review and great sense of humour..... well done guys
Thank you for the kind words. We will be doing more reviews in 2024.
Thanks
Ken
Way nicer than ANY BMW which attract a certain type of person ⚠️
Jaaaags are for the more reserved distinguished folk who have nothing to prove 😅
XJ will be replacing my Rover 75 soon (250k miles never let me down since acquisition in 2007)
GREAT review, thanks
I have a Jaguar XJl. I love it! Roomy, stylish, love the rear passenger entertainment package, fast, luxurious. A great travel car because it offers me 570 miles of range which supersedes any EV in America, giving me the ability to keep moving. The only way i would park my cat to travel is when the day comes the United States of America finally wakes up and builds american highspeed bullet train technology. The XJL is a gret car...
Best looking big sized sedan in the history of big sedans for me atleast! nothing comes close!
Very good review
Thank you! 🙏
- Drew
Most comfortable car ever.
I had a BMW 740 it was the biggest disappointment. It was in the shop every month with some kind of problem. Finally had enough, so I turned it in for a jaguar XJL i’ve had it now for five years and never had single problem with it. It only goes in for its regular schedule maintenance. I highly recommend this vehicle not to mention. It is absolutely beautiful. It definitely gets a lot of attention from other drivers when they see it on the highway. I’m always getting a thumbs up, or when it’s parked I always see people looking at it.
Hi man how are you , what’s the year of your xj , how many miles it has . I am looking at 2011 xj super sport . 38000miles , I had x6 50i ,e71 m , totally nightmare , it hit a point that I am afraid to touch it hahahahah . What do you think of reliability of xj
@@karycooper1 mine is a 2017 I know the early models from 2010 to 2014 had problems with rust in the sunroof tracks
Brilliant video🫶🏼
Back end would be more suited to being on a Citröen.
Belle vidéo 👌 😉.Superbe voiture...Super . 🏴 🇫🇷 👍
If you think the XJ isn't a great-looking car then you need a trip to Specsavers lol the back end is better looking than the front in my opinion, the XF like the XE are boring to look at, again my opinion, as for the BMW 7 series that's just as bad, BM trouble you's all look the same to me, I was next to what I thought was a 5 series but it was a 7.
Every time I go to get into mine I look at it and think it's lovely. Each to their own I suppose, I used to think my Rover SD1 was a great-looking car and still do.
The XJL is not a BMW alternative... it's in a league of its own 😏
What hasn’t been mentioned is this one’s done over 300k miles 😬
I can get 50+ mpg out of mine on a run and 43 urban
Oh wow, excellent MPG in ultimate comfort.
Thank you for watching!
- Drew
Yep, that is true
What year is this lovely Autobiography?
Can you buy one of these in America? I've looked everywhere and I do mean everywhere! I can't find one here
Well, let’s see you in the BMW40DL
In fairness, We would love to review one I depth. We are only going on when Kenny & his father test drove a few 740Ds and compared them to the Jag.
Thank you for watching!
- Drew
You forgot to review the AutoPark or Park Assistant Feature
Sorry Matt it shouldn't happen to the good guys but you mentioned brands that drop the ball regarding reliability living on a name from the past years. Are you thinking about expanding that thought with a video?
love from india !
The mileage 😍💦
Is that mileage correct.. ?
Yes it is. Its going up fro sale next week.
Thanks
Ken
Where on earth has your dad been in 320k miles?!
I only do 5k a year 😊
Why ????
To have even bigger cost of repairs than 7series.
That is a stunning car. A future Jaguar classic and all the better for that lovely diesel V6. Germans look tired and boring in comparison.
Hey guys, just to let you know...in my opinion your voice tone is almost identical and you speak in a faster way therefor the video is a bit annoying
Hell no. Don't buy! Unless you got money to blow.
5.25 meters, not millimetres. 🙄
If you listen properly, Drew says '5255 millimeters' which equates to 5.25 meters.
Thanks
Ken
They are beautiful car, no doubt about. But the Jaguar is extremely unreliable.
Can't be that unreliable with 320k miles on ⚠️
BMW and Audi have fallen by the wayside by all accounts.
