Great video! I have a relative who was on the Titanic as a vegetable cook and surprisingly he survived (on lifeboat #2) our family has his story well documented from when he was still with us.
I think the Disney and Oasis class ships are nicer than most cruise ships, but personally for me Titanic is the most beautiful ship ever. We can appreciate Titanic’s size even more when you realize she was 100% handcrafted.
Okay, sure their specific purpose is different, but it's a totally fair comparison to make because they're both the largest passenger ships in their time. Saying they're nothing alike is nitpicking
The Titanic WAS the biggest ship when it was launched. But 'the largest' was measured in its gross tons displacement, not it size. The Olympic and Titanic are actually identical in size, with the Britannic also virtually the same size, only a few inches longer.
People like to compare them, but they don't compare. Titanic was and ocean liner. It had a very similar purpose to modern airliners. It gets you from point A to point B. Titanic just did it with comfort in mind because it took a few days to cross the ocean. It was by no means a vacation. Cruise ships are mobile vacation resorts. Cruise ships take you back to your starting point at the end of the voyage. Climate Change may even bring back ocean liners. It sounds like ships would use less fuel per person, and you can carry more people than planes with vastly more comfort. I mean, if you're not in a hurry to cross the ocean, maybe have a mini vacation a long the way. It sounds more interesting than being cramped for 12 hours. As for Titanic 2, they can't remake Titanic. From my understanding, it would be against maritime rules to have 3rd class, not that anyone would want it. The good thing is that they can put in more staterooms since they won't need the boilers. Passengers weren't allowed in the boiler and engine rooms anyway.
I feel like a better comparison would have been Titanic vs Queen Mary 2, which is technically more along the lines of what would be the successor the Titanic.
That helmet thing may look ugly from the outside, but I bet the sun setting on the ocean looks nice from in there. Cruise ships are like 24 hour cities on the water. It's an amazing experience. You don't have to do everything either.
@@isaiah5654 You know what else has? Mini golf and casinos? Las Vegas. But yeah I get what you're coming from. Modern cruise ships have more amenities, but the titanic would just be more for the nostalgic factor.
The key differences between Modern Cruise Ships like the Icon of the Seas, to Titanic are two reasons: technology, and purpose. Modern Cruise Ships are essentially floating hotels and entertainment complexes that take circular routes, they are not for transporting anything except their passengers. That's why they feature such grand and over the top entertainment facilities like huge dance floors, casinos, ballrooms, open spaces and atriums, they are to perform the role of multiple entertainment excursions within its own hull. Titanic was a transport vessel, not primarily made for entertainment. It was meant to take people from A to B, and it was also a mail transport ship and also some cargo. These vessels relied on transportation to make money while Cruise ships rely on entertainment to make money. And technology of course is vastly different, the construction of modern ships use more advanced, lighter and stronger materials that push the limits of the ships. Titanic was limited by the tech of the day, which didn't even include welding. Modern cruise ships don't even have rudders anymore, with their propellers as independent pods placed under the vessels. And Royal Caribbean has 26 active ships in their fleet, the majority of them include the "Of the Seas" in their names. Starting with the Sovereign of the Seas, (a ship I went on before) all their ships included that in their names.
Exactly, thank you. I tell this to people all the time. A cruise ship is an all-inclusive resort. It just happens to be floating and, as an added bonus, you can wake up in different countries every day. An ocean liner is a mode of transportation, like a plane. There's no comparison other than that they are both seaworthy vessels.
Titanic was a work of art. Modern cruise ships are nothing more than condos stacked on a boat. I would have loved to ride on the Andrea Doria or Queen Mary, too; but there is absolutely nothing interesting about modern ships.
Great explanation. The Titanic was made before airplanes were invented and that was the only way to travel across the ocean to another country. People immigrating to the US from Brittan. Today's ships are primarily used for vacation
From what I read, cruise ships are basically a tour bus. They’re not meant to set sail across the pacific ocean like titanic which leads to these cruise ships being way bigger
Cruise ships are so enormous so they have more space to place all the attractions they keep coming up with. They’re basically theme parks on the water.
why? it wouldn't be very luxurious. you mean you want a nostalgic ship with somewhat luxurious amenities. these other ones like the icon come with full blown modern luxury, they're just ugly ships to look at. like mentioned in the video, it's not about the look of the ship outside, it's about inside. and you can hate on the ship and critique all the things you want but... get on one of these cruises man. they're a fantastic time.

You seem to have forgotten that the Titanic was in fact, the largest ship afloat when she left on her maidan voyage. And since we rank the size of ships based on their weight, the Titanic still wins, because without a doubt, she’s still by far, the heaviest ship. Only she’s not of the afloat category. All that water inside her makes her considerably heavier than any other ship, however, the Costa Concordia was probably even heavier despite only being about half sunk, because that half that was was still larger than the entirety of the Titanic.

The closest thing you can get to a Titanic experience today is a transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2 as she remains the only active ocean liner left. I agree with you, floating theme parks are NOT ships! They do look fun but there's plenty of land-based attractions like it that are safer. If I'm on the open ocean, I would be a lot more at ease on a ocean liner that was built to handle rough seas and unpredictable ocean conditions with ease. A enormous bulky cruiser would get battered to bits in no time if it was used in frequent transatlantic crossing like the QM2 and quite possibly capsize in a storm with high waves. No thanks!
