Every year, over 10 million Chinese high school students take the Gaokao, one of the hardest college entrance examinations in the world. Today a couple of my friends and I decided to try the Gaokao English exam to see how hard it actually is. Can native speakers get a perfect score? Could we get into Tsinghua and Peking University? Let’s take a look!

Chris, I don't really leave comments but I just wanted to tell you how much I admire you. When I watched your reporting on COVID and political/current events in the US over the last couple of years, I my admiration for you only increased. I really appreciate the ways I've seen you treat your family members and manage your life despite so many crazy and tragic things happening recently. Obviously, I only know that that I can see about you on your CZcams page, and I don't know 99% of everything else about you. 老马我觉得也可以把美国的一些比较难的试题拿给中国的学生做，看看中国学生的反应是怎么样的

我们当年学奥数的时候，还不是互联网时代，各国交流也没有现在频繁。想学好肯定要刷题，所以无论是老师还是学生，都在想尽办法找到尽量多的题目。那个时候我们就有了一个印象：但凡是写明了美国某某数学竞赛的题，基本上都是送分的。正常90分钟的考试，如果是美国卷，最差的学生也可以在30分钟内交卷。说起来也快30年了。
我当年高考英语还考了144呢😂

其实吧，江苏卷的英语也很有意思，试卷长度堪比清明上河图。也不一定非要当年的卷子，也可以看看往年的卷子，看哪一年被抱怨的比较难。另外做题不要做一题对一题，按照高考的时间来，毕竟当年的考试做题速度也很重要，尤其在卷子非常长的情况下。期待再出一期江苏卷的英语

我刚才在搜索老外高考英语，老外考四六级。，想回顾一下英语考试，看看老外的反应。居然出现我最喜欢的youtuber 马老师刚好在做这个节目。哈哈。是不是心有灵犀呢。。

我也覺得任何工作的要求都比翻頁的那個高。哈哈哈。
试试考研英语吧、100分的题目，大部分人不超过50分，而中国的985高校（在中国算是录取难度很高的一些学校），他们复试的分数线一般也才40多。

helllo 口语老炮 我不知道现在你做的视频这么优质而看的人这么少 比如之前那个哈佛大学生英语采访 他们的英语比起从中国来的大部分人来说简直是不可想象的 你能出一视频解释为什么这些人的英语和大部分在美国英国中国留学生英语差距这么大吗 我自己的想法是他们跟我们一样都是普通人 只是学习方法的问题 而且我觉得这也不仅仅是consistency的原因 也有很多人学了10几年的英语但还是英语很差， 我觉得最主要的原因在于他们没有学对 没有专注在语法 （ 想象一下语言中的一段语言是一系列代码， 每个代码就是单词代表着相同的意思， car 车 машина колик，而真正使语言产生区别的是摆放这些代码的位置 也就是语法）所以我觉得语言的语法是一个语言的核心（ 每个语言的单词只是发音和书写方式不一样而表达的意思都是指一个东西 ）而且我觉得并不仅仅是提升语法这么简单 更是学一个语言的时候用他们的语法思考 或者说按他们语法顺序思考
比如最简单的 我在什么地方在什么时间和谁干了什么 英语表达顺序和汉语是完全相反的 英语是先说fact然后在用后面的句子补充他 而汉语是完全相反 i played basketball with my friends outside this evening 我和我朋友今天晚上在外面打了篮球-I and my friends this evening outside played basketball 从这里你就可以发现这就是为什么很多人chinglish的原因 他们在按照汉语的逻辑思考去思考也就是汉语语法顺序
而且很多不管是中国来的还是其他地方来的人都觉得语法是一个在教科书填空为了拿高分的东西 并不觉得这有什么用 或者说他们知道这个的重要性 但并不知道怎么有效的提高他们的语法， 我觉得身为多语言者的你 也知道汉语语法和英语的巨大区别 这不仅仅是语法 而是能不能在一个语言用这个语言语法自然的进行逻辑思考的问题 我希望你可以看到这个 我真心觉得这个就是解决绝大部分学语言问题的答案 我自己上个月左右正确学语法的方式学英语进步所用的的时间 是我去年的好几倍 我自己用实践证明了我感觉这是真的

Pls hire more native English speakers to write your exams LOL that's real, I think some of the questions just don't make sense (weird), and the listening... man TBH who speaks like that.

i think the grammar was good... instead of saying employee the gaokao said 'employed person' which isnt as good will be more easily understood by a non native speaker with limited vocabulary
Employed person is more of a Chinglish construction. A good language student would learn employee at the same time as learning employment, and employer

@@annarboriter this chinglish passage actually comes from a native English source. It is the Editor's Note of Reader's Digest June 2015 USA. Liz Vaccariello , Editor in Chief at the time, write this, and she is also an author. She recently get named as Editor in Chief of PEOPLE magazine.

不要以为美国人做中国高考英语就一点问题没有，反而有问题才是正常的。就像中国人做高考语文一样会很困难一样，越是学到里面才会认识到差距越大，同样是母语者，差距也会很大
哥们儿，高考语文是第一语言，高考英文是第二语言。高考语文的难度肯定比高考英文大。中国人做好看语文题是母语者做第一语言试卷，美国人做好看英语是母语者做第二语言试卷。
hostel不认识的那个小哥让我想起了我在美国碰到一个phd不认识psycho。这两个词恰好我都是从电影名中先学到的：《hostel》（人皮客栈）和American Psycho（美国精神病），很好奇他们竟然会不认识。而且psycho这个词很多美剧里也有吧。
一般叫psychopath吧。
The main purpose of the English education system in China is not teaching students how to communicate with people in English. That's the reason why they have easy listening questions and no oral test.

代表基本功（学习能力）
中文语法可以非常简单也可以非常难。标准不固定。所以总结来说 很难。
非常难的语法平时用不到但是考试会考。非常简单的中文语法平时会用到但是考试不考。
像我上面说的话在中文考试里就是 病句 就是有语法错误的 意思 就是考试中会不得分的意思，但是平时大家都是这么说话的。

For the student who said,' ''The test isn't written by native speakers''......lol the interesting thing is that these exams are written by the nationals probably without consulting a foreign speaker, which is so absurd. Whether someone is native or non-native I believe both categories of people have studied English since childhood. So it doesn't give someone the right to discredit a non-native. That's the problem in this country, ''non-natives'' always being discredited yet interestingly enough some non-natives have better pronunciation than the native speakers. PLUS compared to the English exams I did, this test is weird but I do understand it's difficult for a non-English speaker. The same applies when an English speaker does the Chinese exam or studies the HSK books.

But words like untidy, labor, contractors are so common you have to know them? So... being efficient isn't really important for the chinese education services? So funny :D
