Over 50+ years of riding, we have done all those recommended roads. My favorite is still the Black Hills - not just Needles Highway, but all of Custer State Park, Iron Mountain Road, Mt Rushmore, Highway 385 to Deadwood, Nemo Road from Rapid City to north of Nemo, Vanocker Canyon Road between Nemo and Sturgis, Spearfish Canyon in the northern Black Hills. We have spent the last 3 summers riding in that area, based just south of Rapid City - every direction is a great ride.

I have ridden all five roads: it’s splitting hairs trying to rank them, but, living on the tail end of the Appalachians, love riding those mountains. Still, I think GTSR and Million Dollar highway are outstanding as are numerous other roads in the Rockies. I am 69 years old and am riding as many of the bucket list roads as I can before I kick the proverbial bucket.

Gorgeous land, and fantastic restaurant at the bottom in West Glacier. Bison and elk burgers. Waiting for the boarders to open up completely again so we can get down into the US again.

This top 5 is very, very good, but Joseph Highway WY-296 out of Cody, Wyoming up to Highway 212 is one of the most unknown/underrated highways in America. The road is smooth, long sweeping turns that climb up & down the some of the most beautiful mountain passes. Going up & back gives two incredible & yet different views

Hey Adam, as I've told you before, I've traveled across the country multiple times too. I've done all these rides and definitely agree with number one. My number two though would be the Sun Road through Glacier. There's just so many it's extremely hard to choose. Route 12 and 190 through Utah, state 2 through Washington. Following US 2 across country and actually almost all the US routes. Gheesh, I'm just thankful to God that he's given me the health to do all these rides. I'll be on number 13 cross country road trip late spring, early summer, not bad for an almost 74 year old.

For those in the Southeast that want a calm tour, but don't feel they are up to the constant curves and switchbacks of BRP, Cherohala, Moonshiners, Ocoee Gorge, US129, etc... consider the Natchez Trace. Nashville to Natchez and mostly flat, but calm, no commercial traffic, no trucks, 45mph and some beautiful park spots with camping on the trace or hotel cities just a few miles off.
Definitely not a breathtaking highway to make the top 5, but an excellent starter tour.

Something he doesn't mention about one of my favorite rides is the proximity of the Tail of the dragon and the Wheels Through Time museum just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. One problem with Going To The Sun Hwy--when the weather is good, the traffic is always hell with campers, rec vehicles, and the traffic jams are unbelievable. You can smell burning clutches, hot torque converters constantly from the stop-and-go driving all the way up. It is maddening, it takes all the joy out of the climb. Greatest scenery on earth however!

The Cherohala Skyway is an impressive ride. Only about 52 miles, but spectacular views. Starts in Tellico Plains, Tn and ends at Robbinsville, NC. And while you are at the eastern terminus, you might as well turn north on 129 and ride the "Tail of the Dragon", a short but extremely technical ride of 11 miles and 318 turns.

Great list. Did Needles 21 years ago, don’t remember paying anything then. September 2021 I did a solo ride from just north of Chicago down to San Felipe, Baja MX. On the way did Million Dollar Highway, it is exhilarating, especially when you stop on the side of the road to take pictures on the loose sloping gravel with shear drops just feet away.
The ride that surprised me the most was near your neck of the woods - Talimena Scenic Byway. Maybe not a top five in scenery, but still vey scenic. What impressed me was the great condition of the road, you could ride with decent speed, next to no traffic (I like empty roads) and no stop sign or light for fifty miles. Plan it like I did and take the one place to get off, right in the middle. Spend the night at Gibby’s Biker Camp. You know what good people they are. Continue on the next day.

I agree with all those choices. The only one I've never ridden was the million dollar highway

Hello Adam, Im from North New Jersey, we have axcess to some of the best roads in the north east, The Catskills, the Adirodacks, The Pocono's in Pa. I can be in West Virgina in 4 hours. I can go on and on. But I have never been any place including the Black Forest as peaceful and serene as our own Blue Ridge Mt highway. Hands down the best area in the U.S .

We loved Needles Hwy and Custer State Park. The views, switchbacks and even the donkeys made it a unique experience!

I've ridden all the aforementioned roads and couldn't agree more with what Adam said. Saying that FM 170 from Persidio to Terlingua, Texas and the Mt. Washington Auto Road up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire are not to be missed and should be on eveyones list!

Yeah he did a trip on 12 but he had to trailer thru there in the snow! (he might have gone back again) That is absolutely my favorite riding there (especially going down out of the pass looking on capitol reef! not to mention the Hells Backbone experience......AND lol...fry canyon and Hite area)...goosebumps every time I go...its a euphoric experience!!!

We rode Needles two years ago in July. It’s a fun ride but the traffic was nuts: there were a lot of big vehicles (3/4 ton trucks,RVs) that had no business being on that road. It wasn’t quite a parking lot but we did have to get in front of some traffic in order to really enjoy it. I don’t recall paying twenty bucks but I’ll defer to our host on that point.

I have not done any of the roads you picked but all look amazing. Did ride to Mt. Pocono, Tail of the Dragon, the Ozarks, and all over Eastern Kentucky. My favorite is Kentucky. But after seeing Blue Ridge Parkway I ordered my travel planner there. Definitely this year!

Loved Needles Hwy. I want to go during a time other than the rally. At the Needles Eye tunnel you can wait as long as 45 minutes to get through during rally time, especially if you don’t get there until the afternoon.
    I haven’t ridden the other 4. (Yet).
But by the Blue Ridge is the Cherohalla Skyway, which I highly recommend.

Until you ride 36 in Cali from Red Bluff to the Humbolt Redwoods south of Fortuna these faves are fine. But 140 miles of curves and amazing changes of geography you will just shrug at these 5. Ride on brother.

If you're in Las Vegas, you should take a ride in the Valley of Fire. It's an hour north of LV. Only a short ride but breath-taking scenery.
