@@wmbrown6 Through it all, it's amazing how lucid and humorous Alice still is (in this interview)...impressed at how he's always in on his own joke, and not trying to "put over" a contrived character with never cracking a smile.
Bet he even won over some grandparents in the audience initially turned off by his visage! He even made Tom laugh, who was a good sport in giving Alice some support.

At this point in time, Alice was not ONLY addicted to Alcohol,
but he was heavily into Free - Basing Cocaine.
And during this period in time, Cocaine was running RAMPANT not
just in the Musicians and band circles, but with the General Populace as well.
But this was MAINLY in California as the state was being FLOODED with the stuff.
Of course I'm not forgetting about Florida and New York as THEY TOO were being
under that utterly addictive yet oh so wonderful drug.
The Cocaine wars of Florida is legendary as it was tearing apart THAT STATE.
I was living in San Diego throughout most of the 80's and I too was a heavy partyer.
Me and ALL my friends in the restaurant biz were doing lots of the stuff.
But we did other drugs as well and not JUST Coke.
Once Crystal Meth hit the state, it pretty much equalled and then took over as the
most obtainable and desireable drug over Coke.
San Diego was full of the stuff and El Cajon (A part of San Diego) became the
Crystal Meth Capitol of THE ENTIRE WORLD.
That was where == EVERYBODY == was setting up clandestined LABS and
making that shit BY THE TON.
You could always tell who was making it by how they LOOKED.
You would see someone out on the streets that looked to be in their late thirties
to mid forties as they looked SO AGED.
They looked so frail and shrunken in.
But the SAD THING about them was that they were usually ONLY in their
      .
      . == EARLY TO MID TWENTIES ==.
      .
They would be up FOR DAYS upon end as they were making AND USING it.
I am just glad that Alice was able to stop.
      He is my Musical Idol.
I by the way, am 61 years old now and no longer do the things I used to.
I no longer live in California and am just fine over here in Kentucky.
      Alice survived it.
      I survived it.

@@rayjingloryproductions3770 Good on you for seeing the light, Ray! I lived in L.A. from '80-'93, and remember a lot of cocaine usage, including my brother, who had moved there from Houston a couple years prior. I wasn't interested, so I have no personal stories. I always knew (saw at least his "Killer" tour, and maybe one or two others) he was way into alcohol, which would have bloated him up, if nothing else. I had no idea he was so into coke, which would certainly explain his gaunt look here! Really scary...wonder how long he looked like this!

Well he eventually got his teeth fixed up a bit. He stopped his heavy drinking and coke use and straightened his life out...... It is pretty crazy that alot of ppl do look much better in the 2000s- and 2020's than they did in the 80's or 90's. The dorky huge glasses that were popular ( Or just the way they were made) in the 80's and 90's did not help peoples looks. I think a good amount of the reasons are changes in fashion and style. Of course in the 80's and 90's at the time the styles were cutting edge and popular. Even though hair was crazy big and curly clothes were sort of boxy and lose fitting with clashing colors and clothes that didn't enhance ppl attributes. 90's was a dress down era with big shirts and baggy jeans. These days things are more form fitting and accentuate body parts and hair is more natural styles. Curly hair is not what people strive for unless its natural curls. Straight long hair for women is popular. and more form fitting clothes. Dental product such as whitening systems and toothpastes among other stuff have come along way.

Went into rehab for his alcohol addiction in the late '70's, and even made an album about his experiences (From the Inside) then started doing cocaine like a feind. Saw the "Flush the Fashion ('80) and Special Forces ('81) tours in Florida and he looked just like this. Maybe we just misunderstood each other.
I went to Cortez High and knew a girlfriend of his, but didn't meet "Vince" till many years later after he had come back from Detroit.
I've been following him closely since his earliest days.
What I was talking about was this specific makeup style from the era of this video. It was a change from the classic "horror" look, with signature eye makeup, from his Killer/Schools out era when he first gained prominence.
In this video he has full face make-up and his hair up, and an unusual amalgamation of costume styling that looks more like some of the new wave offshoot movements of that era.
In the earliest Pretties For You/Zappa days he and the band were very flamboyant and had more of a glam and almost pseudo-drag aesthetic, before settling in with the more horror based influences which included his simulated gallows and guillotine on stage.
He kept that same overall horrors style right up until he tried this look in the 80's. Alice has always added slight variances in style, costume, and even very slight differences in his signature eye makeup. But this look in this video is totally off the wall, in my opinion. I'm not alone amongst die hard Alice fans in that opinion. 😄
Certainly he is a normal looking guy (but with long hair) and right at home on the golf course or around the Scottsdale area, ans saves his costuming for the stage.
These days, whether with Hollywood Vampire's or his annual Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding show in Phoenix, or wherever, he is always highly reminiscent of that recognizable early 70's look.
      Thank goodness.

Yeh, I dropped out of buying the albums religiously at this point. Dada and Flush The Fashion were not the direction for me. And when he came back to rock and roll, it was 80s glam (with "Poison") that didn't appeal to me - but Eric Singer was on drums - so that was cool.
