      I played airsoft once, it is fun. But I do not agree with the fact that mil-sim can not translate to airsoft. It absolutely can when training correct. You could apply the same strategy as used in military training. The problem is, that most of them actually think they are SF and get cocky.

      in my country ( holland ) its funny because i come from the shooting sports side and recently went into airsoft because some guys i play video games with invited me over and i liked it but on the shooting sports side the dynamic disciplines like parkour shooting we are not allowed to wear pouches and other clothing that is in camouflage colours because thats to militaristic yet on airsoft they walk in 1000's euros of gear and uniforms and no one says a damn thing about it and yes i must admit i have a uniform myself but it makes no sense that in the shooting sports its not allowed because they think we are training for combat and all that and i hear no one complain about airsoft
      where they use smoke grenades pyrogrenades and vehicles with armor and bb machineguns on it
      and also there are so many whiney cringy people in airsoft that is completly true but the worst is that most of em are like 30+ old people and not even like the people in their early 20's like me

    • @russianamerican7397
      @russianamerican7397 Před 3 lety +95

      Main thing between playing war and being in one is soldiers trained for mental and physical toughness bc being able to squeeze trigger is a tip of an iceberg of being a soldier. Physical and mental stress firefight puts on you is so high, if you weak, you might forget how to even squeeze a trigger when enemy pointing gun at you. During my deployments, I have seen good soldiers completely fail to protect themselves or others and lose any ability advance. Your visuals, noises and understanding what can and may be will happen to you when you get hit by shit can be extremely frightening, its not your imagination its what you see already happened to other guys. Can never compare combat to playing combat especially CQB, close quarters battle, i.e. inside buildings. War is ugly bitch. I am retired combat vet, with extensive injuries and almost lost limb and 27 confirmed kills (thats not counting what hasn't been recorded.) often after different battles, you simply can't even right up correct report on enemy forces that have been taken out. It's a fucking mess. A lot of time you don't think, you train a lot and same ah8t over and over, so when stress is beyond comorehendable, you go on autopilot and just duxking survive this shit. No thinking. Clap clap clap next room, grenade boom, back missed a guy clap clap clap, my buddy down, medic, no medic, moving forward clap clap clap, you take to in a chest plate, fall backwards on your ass use your feet to push off to any cover as boy behind takes out your ticket puncher, extend his arm, you grab it, on your feet, pop mag check rounds, lock and load and back at clapping following guys who are now ahead of you. By this time you look back and other medic made it to you boy, they dragging him out. You think "stay alive bro, I am gonna dust these bitches, skin alive, cut their head off and fuxk them in a hole where had use to be, fuck it. I am God of war, God of War, I am not dying today for my country, I am gonna let those fucks die for their country, you keep telling yourself inside your head. As gun shots, explosions, screams and dust blocking everything in your head, but you blocking it all off and concentrate on your teammate screaming commands or moves they make, its essential to stay alive. That's why they say once a combat veteran no matter what branch, your mentality is extremely different from an average guy. You can concentrate in a middle of chaos on few things and nothing will interrupt you,not fear, not pain, not anger. Having clear head in hell, thats what makes a good soldier/marine. Etc. YOU DONT FRACTURE UNDER ANY TYPE OF PRESSURE OR STRESS. But you will end up with bad ptsd, and it will kick in when its al behind you and done and over with. It will eat at you, just can't help it.

    I met a guy once who tried to enlist in the marines but tore his ACL i believe (i could be misremembering) and he was heartbroken he couldn’t enlist. His idea was if i cant join i’ll live my life (to an extint) like i am. He trained (once he healed) like a soldier, he hung out with soldiers and copied their diet and training regimen, he got better with weapons. He tried to live vicariously but he NEVER had had any false identification towards what he was. He was a civilian who was INSPIRED by the USMC because he didn’t qualify. I think THAT is totally acceptable he never acted like a big shot. He never tried to steal valor or anything. He gave them the respect they deserve while trying to be the best he could be. THAT is how people should treat airsoft if they want to take it seriously. Don’t have some holier than though mentality. Its a fun game that you can act like a kid during. Dont get delusional. Have fun and feel free to take it a little serious but never forget this is a game

    I played airsoft in high school, I loved it. I met a member of the hobby team through a law enforcement/firefighting academy during my senior year in HS/Votech. It was about 20 of us kids, all in fun, but we took it seriously. We had a patch of woodland we used to simulate raids, I had some hunting camouflage that I used to great effect sneaking up on individuals. a year and a half later, I was in the airborne infantry, using paint rounds during field problems.
    Airsoft is great fun, it's a game that can give you great exercise, and even a bit of training if you play alongside like minded people, using legitimate tactics.

    the one really valuable skill that airsoft might help instill in people (especially young kids just getting into the sport, or people who one day plan to use real firearms for hunting, sport, or military apps) is gun safety; knowing where your weapon is pointed, muzzle and trigger etiquette, making sure your safety is on, etc. Definitely not the same as real firearms, but a good intro. Thanks for this video I'm from Argentina, I started playing airsoft recently because I wanted to be a marine in my youth but I couldn't. This sport gave me the opportunity to play a role, of course, I knew it would be far from reality, but I decided to try and be serious about learning, I looked for tactics and put effort into it. But I started noticing the high level of toxicity that took the fun out of everything, people with some kind of experience blaming everyone and not accepting the defeat. At one point I was in a corridor listening to the sound of markers and explosions, and it dawned on me how hard the life of a military man must be, the high degree of experience and determination that is required, and that day I decided to have fun and take the opportunity to learn because I understood that any discipline that you practice it will always give you a small advantage when it comes to resolving situations, but that depends on our determination and willpower. With Airsoft I am setting up my mind to resolve situations, think faster and adapt. This can be useful in any state of your life. And the toxic people can not do that, and the worst, can not enjoy it.

According to my experience when you weren't the host of the game, and the game was hosted by someone really far away (let's say someone from European servers joins an American server), you'd definitely feel the disadvantage. In addition, when you live in a place where the possibility of a decent internet connection is physically absent in the means of no actual cables being laid out in that area whatsoever, you can definitely forget to play any online multiplayer games, as your ping would go up into the thousands sometimes. The place I go to hasn't had a lot of toxicity from what I've seen, and the players are great. The admins on the field do a good job of making sure the situation stays clean and I feel like they do a pretty good job. I've seen a short argument get resolved quickly by one of the admins, and nobody was kicked off thankfully, as the admin got the players to come to a friendly conclusion and continue playing. It's a great game, but people can spoil it easily.

  • @IanFitty
    @IanFitty Před 3 lety +516

    This is the exact reason I quit playing. I’ve been playing paintball for 15 years and ran in nation wide tournaments for a few of those years, so I played airsoft like paintball - aggressive, same posture and form, diving and sliding the same, snap shooting, etc. and I wore my paintball pants and mask just because they’re comfy and protective and I already owned them. You can’t aim properly with a pb mask so you have to use an awkward pull and grip. One time a game organizer ran up to me and started screaming about my grip, stance, this isn’t paintball, and how you’d never fire a real weapon like that - after I just absolutely smoked half the other team in a run-through and took the obj. I replied “so what it’s not a real gun and I just got 8 kills in 10 seconds because I’m playing it like paintball” He was just out for me because I was obviously a paintball player and wasn’t larping like the other guys running gear that cost 10x more than my $130 AEG with a hicap mag. That was the last time I went. The community in my area is nowhere as chill and fun as the paintball community. Paintball doesn’t try to be something it isn’t unless you’re going to a scenario game, and even then it only goes so far as setting up fun rules and objs to fit the theme of the game.

      Sorry you had to go through that. I've been to almost every field within a 2 hour drive from my house and have only had 1 instance of that happen to me. It was a casual King of the Hill game outdoors with no minimum engagement distance for FPS under 350. I had flanked around the side of the field, in bounds, and wiped most of the enemy team from behind with my DMR build from about 50 feet(minimum distance for my build was 40), and one of the refs came up and yelled at me that this wasn't some MilSim op and I can't be playing the game all sneaky and strategic like I was because that's not fair for others, and I ended up getting the game coordinator out to settle this and I guess the guy gave all "non casual" players a hard time cuz he had different standards for how the game should be played. The problem was I didn't even really have to sneak around while I was flanking the enemy was just not paying attention to their flanks and it cost them. Again, sorry that happened to you, and I hope if you ever move to the Pacific North West you'll give the fields and arenas a try cuz the community is almost always chill af and we welcome everyone like brothers and sisters.

      @@l4st_s4mur4i I dont have too much experience with airsoft, but I do play Onward (a VR milsim game) competitively on a team. My take on this is that if a strategy works, it's fair game. From a competitive perspective, the strategy that you refer to as speedsofting is not too effective if the opposition team knows how to pick their angles, know how to actually use cover, and understand team layout. Just like airsoft, Onward has a very low ttk, so I think its fair to say skills can transfer. Generally on my team we have one person lag behind as a sort of "flanker insurance". In the league, generally pulling crazy rushes like that is considered a lower tiered strategy because it works really well when they are in a pub game or against newer teams, but as they climb the ranks, they find that running out in the open will put them at a disadvantage to the person who just barely has their head poking out of cover. In pub lobbies, being at such an angle disadvantage can still be compensated for by just having good aim and a faster reaction time, but when you play competitively you cant expect to have that advantage anymore. Especially in larger areas where the rusher has to scan basically every potential spot within 180° for a potential threat, whilst it only takes one person in good cover watching one, maybe two expected routs a rusher might take take to stop that push.

Then after I got out of BCT and Infantry School, I got invited to a mil-sim type thing. The guy that invited me was a friend of my brothers, and after we played and had fun, he asked me to take a look at his packet. This guy, who never served a day in his life, wanted me to join his "Company" that had obligations like, weekly company runs, weekend squad tactics. He even created a fake rank system. This guy was trying to create his own version of the Army because he had too many bad raps on his record to actually join for real. He had a legit contract written up. This is why I will never return to it unless my veteran buddies invite me. I will play with down to earth people. Not people wanting an alternate reality to be real.

      the doctor airsoft even in a milsim event, the game is structured around toy guns, most of which have a max engagement distance of around 200 ft. In a lot of cases you end up with people who can see each other awkwardly trying to maneuver around each other to get into distance. You can still learn a lot of stuff from airsoft like manual of arms, kit selection and placement, but marksmanship isn’t one of them. You can also learn a lot of the same things from video games depending on the person and what they try to use the activity for. But at the end of the game of airsoft is a sport and in most cases can be fairly analogized to a real life version of a video game including especially the types of people you find in the community, a spectrum ranging from people that just want to have fun, to try hards, to toxic members and everything in between.
