- Hey guys! This week Nightwish won the weekly poll and I'm glad because I really enjoyed this song. :) I listened to it a few more times since then and really love her voice and the "magical" vibe I talked about in the video. I wanted to say that I also really like the unqiue instrumental sounds thrown in here and there as well. (I feel like sometimes first reactions are hard for me cause I notice things on the next few off camera listens that I didn't pick up on while recording and want to make note of!).

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.

Nothing you said describing Floor sounded "stupid ", everything was spot on, she actually loves Disney and even does a cover of "Let it go " and " into the unknown" from Frozen .

Yes, "Disney princess rock chick" is pretty much spot on! People have described NW as "Disney metal", intending it as an insult, but Tuomas (keyboardist/composer) really liked the description - not surprising, he's even done a solo album based on the life and times of Scrooge McDuck, though that one's not metal.
Magical is not dumb at all... its what we all feel, even after 100 listens to this song.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. Her name is Floor Jansen(Yan-sen), she is Dutch. Yes, the band is from Finland, formed in 1996. She had only been with the band about 10 months at this Wacken 2013 show in front of 82k fans, having taken over mid tour. The keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen is the founder and band mastermind, he writes 90-95% of the songs, and everyone is different. Your Disney comment isn't far off, Tuomas is a fan of Disney and composer Hans Zimmer. He also got interested in metal as an exchange student in the USA, going to Metallica and G'N'R concerts.
Look for the comment from Gabriel Bardac (he'll be here soon), for more info and great links to a lot of their songs.
I would recommend Romanticide or Storytime next, both from this same show. But, whatever song you decide to do next, please use Gabriel's links.

Welcome to the world of Nightwish. The lead singers name is Floor Jansen, the best female rock vocalist on the planet as far as I'm concerned. If you want something different from them I would recommend Dead Boys Poem live Buenos Aires. Quite a bit softer but still with the power house vocals that Floor always brings. She has some solo music out as well that is incredible.

NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. I am glad you enjoyed the song. I feel Floor’s voice is “Angelic”. This band definitely raised the bar for everyone. My favorite songs by NightWish is Storytime and the Poet and the Pendulum

Take it from a very old Metal Rock head and a fan of Nightwish for over 20 years. You’ve summoned the Nightwish army. Ghost Love Score was the 13th song of a 15 song set. They have no bad songs and each song in their huge catalog is uniquely different but has the Nightwish sound. They are symphonic Metal, but Floor Jansen can sing anything and make it her own. I would stick with the Wacken 2013 show, Romanticide would be my next suggestion. Then Ever Dream. My mantra for this band is, “ MY FAVORITE NIGHTWISH SONG IS ALWAYS THE LAST ONE I LISTENED TO”! Don't know what there talking about I saw joy, enjoyment, appreciation and knowledge in your facial expressions. Anyone who loves the Goddess Floors voice and when Metallica is being sampled is good in my world. The band is indeed finish but the singer is dutch. Her name is Floor Jansen, you mentioned disney she has a frozen cover on her own channel. For something completely different from the same band I would say you have to checkout The Islander (live at tampere).
Each Nightwish songs is new and different journey. 3 songs limits lol. This band had 3 different lead singers in there life plus de bass guy(Marco) does sings too. You are in for a treat. 😉

All those viewings of Wacken 13 GLS prove at least three things. 1) watch it and Floor will probably have captured your heart and soul. 2) having been so captured you will make frequent revisits and 3) every reactor on. You tube will review this performance at some point. Welcome aboard. Enjoy the Nightwish ride, INCLUDING Tarja and Annette, but you can never wean yourself off FLOOR, FLOOR, FLOOR. Lovely reaction! Welcome to the glorious world of symphonic metal with it's amazing mash up of symphinic composition, orchestral instruments and heavy metal. Look out for Gabriel Bardac's comment with info on the band and links to teh best videos for songs. Nightwish songs are quite varied going from epic story telling cinematic songs like this, to straight forward heavy metal songs, to beautiful ballads, to folky metal songs. Looking through your other reactions it looks like you enjoy heavier songs so I would recommend Storytime or Romanticide next from the same Wacken concert. Enjoy the ride. Another band within this genre that you might enjoy alot is the band Epica. They are Nightwish's darker heavier cousin. They are Dutch with a classically trained female lead singer like Floor but with her own unique voice. They also have a male lead singer who use death metal growls in some songs to provide contrast to their female lead singer, called the beauty and the beast style. Consign to Oblivion live from the Zenith in Paris is a great introduction to the band for those into metal and is pretty heavy. Unleashed from their live Retrospect concert, with orchestra and choir on stage, is also a great first listen and features more of their female singer, Simone Simons, beautiful vocals.
Not to mention that Floor sings at the Live Retrospect show, too 🙂
Nice reaction, like/sub for you Nikki. Nightwish is incredible, Floor Jansen is an enigma to me. She tugs at the strings of my soul. I will never understand how she does that. I mean, she is just a woman with a beautiful voice, right? Wrong, over my 64 years I have heard many women with beautiful voices, none have brought me to tears, other than Floor. She could sing happy birthday and bring me to tears, I just don't get it. Anyway, I look forward to your next reaction to Nightwish, I suggest Ghost River and Romanticide or Storytime. Stay safe.

Great choice and great reaction. Nightwish are the masters of Symphonic Metal music. From this same concert "Storytime", "Romanticide" and "Ever Dream" or any other song from this concert would be more than acceptable as they are all winners. The singer Floor Jansen is Dutch, sings in English in a Finnish band and in this video they're playing in Germany. She is indeed a great musical storyteller and she has also been known to sing Disney on her own channel. She has her own CZcams channel and does covers of many different genres as well as original material written by her. She lives in Sweden with her Swedish husband, Hannes Van Dahl, who is also the drummer for the Swedish Power Metal group 'Sabaton' and she has a preschool age daughter, Freya. She also appeared in the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' (on CZcams) where she also performed many different genres of songs with some in different languages as well as performing "Phantom of the Opera" with the original Dutch Phantom, Henk Poort. The group Nightwish has a catalog of music that blows the mind in that no two songs ever sound the same and all are amazing. Floor Jansen in a beast of a singer having been trained in classical and contemporary music. She is my favorite vocalist by far and is the most versatile singer I've ever heard since Linda Ronstadt. You're doing a great job here and remember that this is 'your' reaction and not what someone else wants you to be like. Be true to yourself and keep it up young lady. You have a new subscriber and I'm thinking there are going to be many more in the very near future.
Never mind what people say about how you"look" in your reactions. There will always be people complainng about everythig. Now you have entered the world of Nightwish and the Nightwish army. We rather have an honest and genuine reaction the someone jumping around and more or less take away the actual reaction. This is music at its finest and should also be treated like that. She said in an interview that she brought two dragon woth her through the Bifrost. But they didn’t like it here and had to go back. So she’s visiting Asgaard now and again because she misses her dragons and her buddys back home.
The allfather probably is so proud of her talent that he has granted her permission to live among us migardians for a while.
So please pray to him and ask him to let her stay for another 100 years, at least!

The interview part is actually true. But it isn’t a proper answer interview, its an video on her CZcams channel. She does this series called “fan friday” where she answers questions from fans ask in the comments.
Some dude asked what it was like to travel through the bifrost. And she actually answered him and it was hilarious! 😂

Really great reaction! I haven't seen any of your other reactions yet, so i don't know what people meant that you were boring to watch, but you are far from boring to watch. Your face during this entire TEN MINUTE song was intently watching and definitely showing reactions to many of the high points. You have good instincts Nikki. Nice reaction. Trust your gut. With Nightwish, you are right. There is so much variety to experience with this band. If you want metal growl, listen to "Yours is an Empty Hope". You will get to enjoy a second extremely talented vocalist in the band, Marco, sing and you will get some surprise growls. Floor is also a force of nature. If you dive into her solo or collaboration work, that's an epic journey unto itself. Check out her performances with Simone Simons of Epica. The two artists performing together are perfect.

Hi Nikki, don;t put yourself down. That was not a boring reaction, quite the opposite. Sometimes, even a subtle smile says so much. 😀
I enjoyed your observations, not dumb at all. As other comments have said, floor has even done Disney covers, and the bands composer cites composer Hans Zimmer (Pirates Of the Carribean) as one of his influences. As to whether all Nightwish songs are similar, I can safely say that there is a fantastic variety in what they do. If you asked any Nightwish fan to "capture" what is Nightwish in just 3 songs, I think any one of us would find that a pretty big challenge. As said by others, Storytime is a nice place to go next as it's objectively a little more "mainstream" (It got to No. 1 in the charts in Finland). I hope you enjoy your Journey with Nightwish, be it long, or be it short and sweet.
Definitely stay with the same concert, and check out " Storytime " Song of Myself " and Everdream "... absolutely epic !!!!

Nightwish have such variety, you can't really get a feel for them in three songs. However, if you were only going to do two more for now, I'd recommend Storytime and Romanticide from this same concert. That'll give you at least a glimpse...

There are already enough those high energy, very animated OMG reactors. Your style is just as good as anyone else's. 👍 As a Finn I often hear or read that we as people or crowd are boring / cold / indifferent / unpassionate of whatever. Just because we are not that loud or flamboyant or whatever. But it's just our style - we experience things more internally. I remember hearing some band saying in the past that it's a bit intimidating to come to have a gig in Finland, because we actually listen (instead of screaming ourselves). 😅 Well, this is all generalization, but with a point.
