@@kurosan0079no for the first three seasons contestants didnt have any big culinary experience or any at all, that's y even a secretary that was a home cook mom could enter. after the sous chefs, the Asian one that's screaming and Scott kept complaining abt it, the network finally started only accepting adequate chefs we actually had experience like head/sous chef, line cook, prep cook, Baker, etc. it was published in older articles back in the day abt this topic

There’s a reason why Ramsey is so tough on everyone, and it’s because he wants to set their standards high. He doesn’t want them to settle for mediocre, nothing but perfection goes. And what I like about his methodology is that he makes sure to let them know when they’re on the right track by congratulating them when they make something that is to his standards. Some people don’t get that and take his criticism to heart but it’s because he wants these guys to succeed and he’s clearly passionate about that…

I love how when the guy called him an asshole, (which took some balls), Gordon actually looked a bit taken aback, and didn’t really have an angry response. You can tell he’s not just being “mean”, it’s just that he’s so passionate and caring about food. It’s very genuine. He expects his chefs to cook and care with the same dedication and a intensity.
In his autobiography he mentioned in every kitchen he had been in, the chefs that talked back were brutally persecuted, in most cases had pans and pots with boiling water in them thrown around. He was on television and refrained from taking a hit on Jeff. There is a level of authority and Jeff didn't see it.

He was famous for his temper even before he was a tv personality. Him and his mentor were maniacs in the kitchen. So even if he was putting on a little bit of a show for the sake of good television, it's not like he's not genuinely like that sometimes. I'm sure he does fake it a little bit. Especially on Kitchen Nightmares US. But it's not like it's all total bullshit. People who have genuinely worked for him in his restaurants have told stories of his massive temper.

Moreover he doesn't teach cooking in these shows. all these shows like master chef, hell's kitchen are competitions and experienced people take part here which means mistakes can't be accepted. from Gordon's point of view, i think it feels like when you're teaching something but your students aren't interested and not giving their 100%. I've seen many people who get pissed if their partners/co-workers aren't giving 100% so I'd say his temper is fine. I'm also saying that he's a great chef because he actually wants those people to be good at cooking rather than speaking utter nonsense which joe bastianich does in master chef 🙄
The moral is to push them to the point of breaking and the build them up. in order to be gordon;s head chef you need to be ale to handle intense high pressure situation at all times.
