The idea of 9 foot tall demigods going out among the grimdark drudgery of the galaxy to do anything "covertly" as the eyes of the emperor never fails to make me chuckle.
They just strap shoes to their knees and wear cloaks to cover their legs. So they only look 6 feet tall.
Could probably pass for a particularly big Space Marine.

I thought the Lueten sleep club was a running joke but upon further investigation it's a real thing. And 2bh I kond of get it... his voice has a certain quality to it. Can really relax you.
I've only followed 40k lore for about 2yrs now and I don't think Valdor will betray the emperor. I always think of the very beginning of Valdor: Birth of the Imperium. The conversation the emperor has with Valdor when he first wakes up has always been on my mind. The convo is vague. He tells Valdor to ask any question because in the days to come information and data is all he'll be able to give him. "There's no such think as a free lunch" "you pay a price for all things and this is mine" "I will become less than human... and more" "with one bargain you become stronger, you make another you become weaker." "It applies to mortals, it applies to gods, not that I intend to become one." And then the emperor ask if Valdor understands the reason for the grand bargain and if he finds it unworthy while asking him to speak freely. Valdor says "infinite power can't be overcome because we're finite, limited by law... so deception" "you will cheat them, you will cheat all of them and us" "a risky strategy, but there are no others" and he doesn't find the emperors plan unworthy. I honestly think it's the most important piece of lore with regards to the future 40k could be heading, although GW could always change things. I guess what I'm getting at is that Valdor knew all of the plans of the emperor, just as Malcador knew. The deception could lead to the emperor gaining power on the scale of the chaos gods, but he's not going to try and become one. But just cause he's not going to try doesn't mean its not a likely possibility. Valdor was in on the true deception and it's overall scale so I don't think betrayal is possible. One of my fav books. I'd honestly like to know what everyone else thinks. I've not had a chance to bring this up with anyone and I've not seen the convo in the book referenced anywhere on the internet.
It doesnt matter if he does or doesnt. Its up to you what happens. There is NO CANNON. EVERYTHING IS CANNON.
I love the characterisation of the Emperor as a masterful deceiver: he cheats the old four to make the primarchs, he lies to humanity about the the reality of the warp, he lets the mechanicum believe he is the Omnissiah, but he also ultimately beats Horus through sheer deception. That quote from Birth of the Imperium is his justification - in the face of a hostile, all-consuming infinity, he will navigate the future of his species with guile and cunning (e.g. by allowing for the existence of the Imperial cult despite rejecting godhood on the Vengeful Spirit); as Malcador comments after ascending to the Golden Throne, seemingly to Horus who can't really hear him, his King of Ages "will become anything you need him to be" to win. It's a great choice that allows GW writers to do a lot while remaining consistent and not revealing the truth about the Emperor. It also makes the figure seem really transcendent, because it puts him in a league with Cegorath and the Deceiver, some of the most influential characters in 40k as a whole.

You should add the 10,000 Custodes to your 40K number problem video. There's no way that 10,000 individuals can adequately patrol a continent sized complex in addition to working as jailors, the Emperor's personal body guard, fighting off daemons in the web way, and sending war parties out into the galaxy. There has to be at least 10x that number and the Custodes only ever say there are 10,000 of them so that the High Lords of Terra don't perceive them as threats.
In terms of scripture m, 10,000 is a symbolic number which doesn't mean 10,000 in number but something more like "a number large enough to count if you had enough time"
They are not a problem. There are only 10000 Custodes because that's how hard and time consuming is to create and arm each one of those men, but they are not the only one ones protecting the Imperial Palace, just it's most powerfull protectors + Big E's personal bodyguards. The Lucifer Blacks, a group of elite soldiers made of normal humans, is one of the other groups also protecting the palace.
It's totally dumb.
This has always made sense to me. The Custodes answer to no one except Big-E, they consider themselves the true inheritors of His authority, and they view the entire IoM as a failed experiment. Why *wouldn't* they tell the fake rulers of the fake Imperium they only have ten thousand members? _They_ are the actual people who matter, the only ones who dad really cared about, so who cares what the savages outside the walls think?
And the the female custodes on watch in the palace's kitchen for so many years, away from everyone's attention...

Three squads of Allarus Custodians with leaders is legit 1590 pts. That's only 21 models and none are a named character.
Extremely dangerous, especially now that they (presumably) have receptacles for superhuman menstruation byproducts. Which could probably kill a mere mortal simply by being within 10m of them. But hey, any weapon is a good weapon in the -grimdark- progressive and virtuous 41st millenium, right?
Standard Custodes are deadly. I'm assuming their terminators are also deadly because it's the maximum amount of deadly anything can be. Oh wait, I forgot super deadly. That's the amount of deadly is the end result of getting super killed.

Clearly a retcon, or at least no more so than some of the Custodes being women, not to mention the Iron Kin, STCs, Tau trading, ect, were all completely new inventions for their lore. Idk bro, I just feel like it's a very disingenuous reading of their statement to pretend that they meant we've always intended for there to have been women, versus, for as far as the lore is going to be written from now on, we aren't treating this as new and it's always going to have been the case. Them being back, with STCs to boot, with true AI is a "retcon" or at least no worse of a retcon than "some of the custodes are women now". I think its a pretty disingenuous reading of GW's statement to claim it meant "we always intended there to be female custodes" and not "from now on, the lore will be written with female custodes, and this will not be treated as a new event". Obviously they didn't exist before now, but hey, way back when, neither did the primarchs, either. 40k is built upon fuzzy lore being recontextualized and rewritten over and over ontop of even fuzzier lore. Luetin even says this in the video, did you even watch it?

Are there any books/short stories from the perspective or at least following an Eye of the Emperor? They seem really interesting acting like ultra-rogue traders or something and it would be cool to see what they get up to. *Thinking about it I guess thatâs kind of what Valdor has been doing.
Would be funny if the imperial citizens just think of him as a smart ogryn that is why he doesn't stand out much.

You know that he's not against the idea of men and women in Custodes, right? The way GW announced or hinted at it was stupid, but so far he's fine with the idea overall from a prior video.

@@84jesterx No one is against that idea. The problem with the idea is not new characters themselves, its the faction in which they chose to place those new characters.
They could have easily put new uber units in the Sos or Sob, but they chose an off limits faction (its off limits due to entrenched lore that prevents this sort of addition) for the purpose of confronting their fans ideologically and NOT to expand the faction for enjoyment purposes.

One question I have about the Custodes, I saw it referenced somewhere that theyâve built themselves back up to their original 10,000 number since the Heresy; is that true? I kind of thought theyâd be way cooler as still the shadowed meager remnant leftover after the war in the Webway. I mean only the Emperor can make them, right?
I think in the Emperors Legion it was stated that yes, their numbers went back to slightly under 10k. That was before the Khornate demon invasion
No, they are still being made. None of the current Custodes are 10K years old

A simple search proves otherwise. The Iron Kingdom talks about Vychellan who was alive when the Emperor was a man. Valdor and Amon were alive in 30k.

Man, there's a lot of ivory tower settings in 40k, the extreme wealth of a planetary governor, or of a rogue trader, or of an inquisitor, compared to the squalor of the general public. But imagine being one of the chirurgeons who work in laboratories that look more like they're pulled out of star trek, and the disdain they likely feel for these "lesser people" who bring them their sons to be changed into gods.

Well, this video couldn't have come at a better time!
25:26 Some of the roads on this map have to be like a kilometer wide if you can see them at that distance. It would be crazy to see I really want to see a 3d render of part of the imperial palace.
This is actually going to be my first proper lore briefing for the Custodes. Other than a vague knowledge of their existence (see your description of them as rumor to even informed Imperial citizens) I never bothered to actually read up on them.
I got rly sick yesterday and this video helps a lot emotionally. Thank you!

my favorite custode lore are their SCP units, that deal with treats that can put the emperor in danger

I have a question, why are there three different ranks that are unquestionably in control of all others except if the emperor is present.
The inquisitors
The custodians
The primarchs (by extension Lord High Commander.)
Like this feels like the warhammer version of the third triumvirate and I feel like will end just the same.
The inquisition has to have that kinda of power and authority, their job will often involve them going to isolated places in the imperium so they won't always have the ability to request permission to dictate the conclusion to their investigations.
Custodes don't really have the authority to order everyone around, space marines can and have refused orders.
And primarchs are the emperor's children they inherently hold the most authority of any living human.
Three is very common in a lot of religions, deities and mythologies. Heck, the Rule of Two is one of the few deviations.
