I remember when this great man was a cardinal and he gave the eulogy for John Paul II and it was perfect! I said this guy should logically be the next Pope! A few days later he was picked. JPII was a tough act to follow and he had to lead the church through some tough times. He did it with humility wisdom Justice and strength!
Then, in a bold move, he retires! While JPII was a wonderful leader and probably the best of the modern era, the last few years of his Papacy, he was obviously very ill and frail. Pope Benedict16th knew this and didn't want to be seen in that light. He also knew that the modern Papacy is a job like being a president of a huge country, with meeting hundreds of people everyday, making huge decisions and traveling extensively. This requires a healthy and attentive person. He definitely should be commended for his prudent decision and has now set the precedence for the modern era!
