Amazing to hear virtually the same story from other Catholic schools! When I was in third grade, Pope John Paul II died and so I learned about the process of getting a new pope at that time. When Pope Francis' time came, I was a junior in high school and we did have TVs, they were just turned to the school's announcements, schedules, and other propaganda. The teachers allowed us to take out our phones and we tuned the TVs to cable news, but it took so long that it took multiple classes until we saw the pope emerge, and by that time most of the teachers were tired of waiting and were trying to get the TVs off and back to class. It was a big moment for me because Pope Francis looks a lot like my grandpa did and I texted my mom this, who agreed. I imagine at this time you'd be about the age I was when Pope Francis was announced, I hope life is going well for you.

  • @Awakeningspirit20
    @Awakeningspirit20 Před 3 lety +155

I remember this day, in Catholic high school no less! We were in math class in my junior year when the intercom came on and announced that the Vatican had chosen the Pope. Of course, Catholic school being so rigid and strict as it is, some of the teachers wouldn't even turn on the TV for us. We pressured the math teacher into turning the TVs on, but it took SO long that I was watching it over two classes. We always had to pressure the teachers into doing it. They even allowed us to take out our phones to text family members, and my mom had been doing errands and went back home to watch live. I remember the French cardinal now, taking so long, making the announcements in SO many languages! Finally, the news that we had an ARGENTINE pope! My art teacher in Catholic grade school was Argentine, and I had been studying Spanish since I was 5 (though, at the time, I didn't like it). When he emerged, I was shocked because he looked so much like my own grandpa, also ethnically Italian. I texted my mom "THE POPE LOOKS JUST LIKE GRANDPA!!!" She said she thought the same exact thing!
And wow, this pope has not disappointed; I can't believe so many Catholics dislike him or think he's a 'Marxist'. He's the most Christlike Pope we've probably ever had, prioritizing the Church's mission over its rituals. Some may not like this and want something more authoritarian and conservative, but it's what Christ preached and he is a very spiritual man, so I personally love it as a left-leaning Catholic. So glad I've witnessed three popes during my lifetime, though we never got to watch Benedict become pope.

      Hi there,
If you do not mind me sharing; the Sabbath, "..from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath." Lev 23:32 (KJV) which is sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, was "sanctified" or "קָדַשׁ" which means to 'set apart for holy use' Gen 2:3 "And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it..." (KJV), and thus Adam and Eve kept it holy. Sin is defined as transgressing or breaking any of the 10 commandments as per 1 Jo 3:4 "..sin is the transgression of the law." (KJV). So, when Satan had sinned, he actually broke the 10 commandments for indeed angels also have to keep them in heaven Psa 103:20 "Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments..."(KJV). Infact, the saints, described as those that "..keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." (Rev 14:12, KJV), will keep the 10 Commandments when the new heavens and a new earth are created including keeping the Sabbath holy by e.g gathering to worship the LORD as per:
Isa 66:22-23 "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make...it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD." (KJV).
Heb 4:9 "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." (KJV); The word 'rest' is translated from the Greek word 'σαββατισμός'
(Sabbatismos) - A Sabbath, Rest. The 7th day Sabbath still stands active today for all GOD'S people to observe.
I highly encourage to do a study on this, if in disagreement, so as not to 'end up coming short in the end' (if above the age of accountability) as per:
Heb 4:1 "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it." (KJV).
      Exo 20:8 "Remember..." (KJV).

William Marcoux catholicism is way better nowadays than let say pre 1962. It was more "open" to trends that happening. More flexible and indeed more "human oriented" than god. Yes they still hold their traditional values and ceremony that makes catholicism different than other christians. Yes there still quite scandals around vatican such as corruption, and paedophilia which I disgust, but boy today is better than the borgias era.

Yoga Prasidya every religion will come with some sort of abuse and paedophillia, as pastors, preachers, bishops etc . But something about Catholicism is weird and wrong. People know better than to call the Pope the Holy Father , they know it ,but because they were raised Catholic they have to come up with absolute nonsence and blasphemy.
Plus all that money they have and extravagant gold paintings ,relic's, extremely expensive wardrobe, gold thrown seats , this is not just in the Vatican . It's in all major cathedral's and all bishop's, archbishop's, cardinals , can't live without there gold ring they get.
Almost all money goes to the Vatican and other major cathedral's and small church's. Did I mention the Vatican is a Bank entity . Plus all the BS they say about caring for the poor and be modest and humble etc..... If Jesus came down tomorrow and seen all the money and jewelry ,paintings they have. That can all go towards global hunger schools better medical care . why do they need all that money ? Why why why ? Bet one of there best painting could literally feed a small country somewhere for a while and build school and structures. Proper houses .
I can go on for hours this just 1% of the stuff wrong with the Vatican.
Answer these questions and I will respect you and don't switch the subject I brought up or try to use fallacy tactics. All this was just about there morals I didn't even get into there religion and flaws and abomination of the bible and having this mentally that you must love the pope as if he is a god.

I am a Filipino Catholic and i would gladly say that the Catholic church in our Country is very active in charity like we started a program where old bottles or cans will be used as coin banks and once it is full you give it back to the church then the diocese will choose a scholar depending on grades and general willingness to study and sponsor that child
About the Jewelry, it is only a part of our tradition to at least give distinction to those who give so much teachings about God (this is my opinion and you do not have to like it)
About the money I think most of that is for the salaries of the priests and other religious structures and functions
We don't worship him as a God by the way, more of a person who could be a role model to People
And by the way Freedom of religion is a thing you don't have to like my faith
you do not have to respect me as a Catholic but at least respect my opinion as another human
sincerely, a 12 year old asian boy

    • @bobbob5541
      @bobbob5541 Před 6 lety +8

William Marcoux, I'll try to go through your concerns one by one:
      1. Calling pope the Holy Father - the word "pope" itself is derived from greek word meaning "father". It is common especially in english speaking countries to call spiritual leaders fathers. Jesus tells people not to call anyone else a Father or a Teacher, but it isn't meant to be taken literally. Otherwise Saint Paul would be commiting blasphemy in his letters: "I was appointed a preacher and an apostle [...], a *teacher* of the Gentiles in faith and truth." [1 Timothy 2: 7].
The pope is the human leader of the Holy Church on Earth, a direct successor of Saint Peter. Thus for the sake of his office, not his personal merit, he is called "Holy Father".
This also relates to your line about loving the pope as if he was a God - pope is nowhere near the level of God, he isn't even considered to be infallible. Only few of papal declarations approved by loads of scholars as consistent with Evangelion are considered infallible by the Church.
      2. Expensive relics and all that bling - The main goal of the Church is not helping the poor in a material sense. It is to carry out and promote the message and cult of God, leading people to eternal salvation. Jesus himself did not commit majority of His resources to help the poor. One of the best examples is when a woman uses up entire bottle of very expensive oil on His feet [John 12]. The only apostle to oppose this behaviour was Judas Iscariot.
      3. Overall ugly things commited by church officials - Well, this is a very old issue of the Church, or rather humanity. After all, the original followers of Jesus were a bunch of disloyal [Luke 22:59-62], selfish, jealous [Mark 10:35-41] cowards [Mark 14:50] who helped to kill and imprison innocents [Acts 8:1-4]. The point is that even the ones chosen personally by Jesus were sinners. And with more responsibility comes greater capacity for sin. Imperfect actions of Church leaders are no proof of imperfections within the catholic doctrine.

      Hi there,
If you do not mind me sharing; the Sabbath, "..from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath." Lev 23:32 (KJV) which is sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, was "sanctified" or "קָדַשׁ" which means to 'set apart for holy use' Gen 2:3 "And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it..." (KJV), and thus Adam and Eve kept it holy.

@@jedigovna9537 This is a very bold statement. Pope Innocent III declared all jews had to wear badges to identify them in the street and Pope Martin V was a Kabbalist. Pope Honorious was excommunicated for heretical statements where he denied Christ was both man and God. Is Pope Francis really the worst? Top 10, but to say he is the worst of all time is a very silly notion. He's probably the most uneducated, but definetly not the worst. I disagree with almost every decision he's made during his papacy, but I'd never dare say he's "anti christian" because he's theologically stupid. Check yourself.
