- In this new video, Fr. Timothy Gallagher and Brandon Vogt discuss the basics of the Liturgy of the Hours, explain how it can deepen your prayer life, and explore what sets it apart from other forms of prayer: www.wordonfire.org/pray.
The Liturgy of the Hours is an ancient, structured way of praying Scripture throughout the day, focusing especially on the Psalms. It hearkens back to the Jewish custom of praying at fixed hours, a practice early Christians continued.
It’s the Church’s official prayer, and the highest form of prayer after the Mass.
However, praying the Liturgy of the Hours can be expensive, confusing, and impractical.
Word on Fire’s brand-new monthly subscription booklets make praying the Liturgy of the Hours easy, accessible, and affordable for all Christians.
Watch the video above and visit www.wordonfire.org/pray to learn how it works!

Fr. Gallagher is just the best. His work in Discerning Hearts is extensive and so rich. He explains everything so simply and sweetly. He makes you yearn for more. Word on Fire should do something more with him, if God permits. He is a true treasure.
Thank you Fr Gallagher and Brandon and Word On Fire team. Very glad to learn what is the Liturgy of the Hours, 2nd highest form of prayer after mass, that we are invited by Christ to join with him for this hymn of praise from all eternity and that our meager prayer will be lifted up by Christ to our Father. Praises be to the Lord. Amen.
The Liturgy of the Hours has changed my life. It is possible for laypeople to pray all seven hours if they are intentional. All the ribbon flipping becomes effortless once you set your ribbons up and use the St. Joseph guide which tells you exactly where the ribbons go daily. Blessings to all who are seeking to incorporate these into their daily lives. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so much for this video. It is not so hard to learn the "ribbons"😀. And there is something to having the book. A holy bishop said to me talking about prayer that I could spend an hour just with Laudes, that is morning prayer. That is that the Liturgy of the hours is a great fundatión for prayer.
God bless your work!
I lived with the Sisters during the lockdown and that's when I learned how to use the Breviary. It's very rich and nourishing. I installed the iBreviary app on my phone but just like the others, the actual book just feels totally different. I'm blessed to have learned how to use it with all the ribbons 😅 and have received it as a gift from my brother.
There's also this CZcams channel that uploads daily morning and evening prayer. And the prayers are chanted. Just awesome 💛
I do vespers with the CZcams channel. It is beautiful!
I have two Liturgy of the Hours from the community that I served as a missionary. They are Missionaries Servants of the Word
I love The Liturgy of the hours.
You can also pray the indulgenced and much shorter Little Offices such as the Little Office of St. Joseph. I try to pray the Divine Office but if I don’t have much time, a little office and fill in if you still want a prayer for that time 😊
I have no idea who these people are that say the Divine Office is repetitive. I came to the exact opposite conclusion, that it is incredibly rich with variety.
Thank You Blessings
Thank you for this wisdom you share. I’m going to begin this asap.
Just subscribed! I use iBreviary on my phone most of the time and this will compliment it nicely - especially at church or other settings where the phone is not appropriate. Dominus Vobiscum
I envision a daily live musical version on CZcams with a choir, with every Hour.
There is one. The channel is "Sing the Hours". Been waiting for this too.
@@tahlia2011 ya I'm a fan of there channel
Listen to Sing The Hours on CZcams. A beautiful way to pray the Liturgy of the Hours twice a day.
Absolutely right. I follow it and love it.
Hi congratulations to both. I find this information very useful, can we order the book and have it delivered international (to Mexico)?
An individual monthly subscription to Word on Fire Liturgy of the Hours costs $7/month (Special Founder's Discount). Does Special Founder's Discount mean the price of $7 will eventually increase?
For 12 years a small group of us have used the Liturgy of the Hours (4 vol) before our morning mass. If we incorporate your monthly booklet will it work or will there be differences?
Subscription to hard copy without ribbons is good, but expensive- do you have a kindle edition
What is the earliest publication of the new monthly LOTH booklets? Is the first volume for May 2022? Before that? After that?
I would love to be more involved in praying the Hours, but it seems to be an almost impenetrable task. The prayer books are impossible to use without someone to show you how to do it, the calendar is bewildering and no one at our local parish seems to understand (or really even be aware of the existence of) daily Christian prayer.
What is the laity to do? This seems like one more area reserved for the clergy, with laity largely on the outside.
There are apps which are easy to use which is the simplest solution
@@derick1697 That’s probably true. I guess even with the Faith we have to rely increasingly on technology to achieve success.
@@derick1697 which are the best apps to get.
Have faith! The Ordinary is the key. Start with Vespers/Evening Prayer. Then add morning prayer OR the office of readings. We are not Carthusians. Maybe start with the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin. Much more structured. I do the wrong prayers sometimes. Time permitting, I do more prayers. Lord knows I am trying. Have fun with it. It is a gift. Patient endurance at its finest.
there are videos on CZcams walking you through it. Once you grasp the basic format of each office of the day, you can't forget it.
Are these "Liturgy of the hours" books to be used for one month and year only? Or can they be saved and reused the following year during the same month?
The Rosary should be made liturgical.
Does this new publication take account of any of the recent updates that the USCCB has made/will be made available in 2022?
For example the Abbey Psalms and Canticles, a much better translation than the 1970s psalms, is currently allowed for liturgical use in the US, and is to be the new psalter for the entire LOTH retranslation project intended for 2025.
The Latin hymns of the LOTH finally translated are expected to be published this year and immediately authorized as well.
Finally, the Collects from the 2010 Missal are allowed for liturgical use in the LOTH.
With these in mind, hopefully your publishing team has understood this exists and is objectively better than the 1970s publication as is.
