For those interested, Divinum Officium has the full breviary hours for those interested in the Traditional 1962 Breviary. I myself prefer the Monastic Benedictine Breviary, the only Western breviary that has preserved the same psalm arrangement since the 400’s, arranged by St. Benedict of Nursia himself.

@@AussieCatholic if you want to use a breviary invented in 1969, that’s fine. The older breviary from the 4th century was used by countless saints across 1.5 millennia. Ancient traditions such as psalms 148-150 in Lauds are so old that they unite us to our brethren in the Eastern churches too. Not to mention, the older breviary contains the tradition of praying the entire psalter weekly. More prayer equals more grace.

I own both a Monastic Latin-English Diurnal and a 1962 Roman Latin-French Diurnal, and I’m honestly pretty torn on which one I should use over the course of my week. I love both Offices and their quirks, but choosing which one to stick to is honestly a hard decision. I love praying the Laudate Psalms, 148-50, in the Monastic Office, which is a custom that goes back to even the time of Christ or so I’ve heard, along with the Gradual Psalms throughout the day, but I also love praying the Nunc Dimittis and Psalm 21 on Friday in the Roman Office. My own state of life as a college student with only 24 hours in the day doesn’t help either, haha.

And i don't have time for all of them. I did by Shorter Christian Prayer, which had morning and evening in addition to the Night Prayer I'm doing.

The 7 hours of prayer you described is structured how people eat, so if everyone can remember to say the little prayer upon before:
    Breakfast
    AM Snack
    Lunch
    PM Snack
    Dinner
    Bedtime Snack
(and before bed) -- tada, no problem!
Once people get in the habit of praying before they toss food in their mouths, they can learn to remember to bring that little booklet with them so they know which prayers to pray. If one's life is at home, keep the little book on the kitchen table, or pack it in your lunchbox if on the go! We can do this! 🤗

When I started last year started dedicating myself to learning Catholicism and immersing myself in it, I started praying by picking out a few Psalms to pray nightly. This was before I came across the Divine Office. I promised myself that if I stayed true to my prayer commitment for a year that I would treat myself to the 4 volume set. I found myself switching between the Christian Prayer book and the Universalis app to keep up with my prayers - depending on what was going on in our life. In the last month I added all prayers, except the Office, which I plan to add at some point. It is now coming up to a year, and I kept my with my commitment. Bought my 4 volume set and looking forward to them arriving soon!
About the Universalis app, I absolutely love it! You can set reminders for all prayers. It has everything you need. You also have the option to buy a code which allows you to download the app on to any device with no limits on how many devices (I don't think). It's a very simple and basic app with no extras.
One tip I would like to share ... for those having a problem with distractions while you pray ... turn your phone on "do not disturb". This turns off all notifications which will show up again when you turn it back on. I was getting annoyed whenever a message or notification showed up while I was praying, which was a huge distraction. Since doing this, I feel more focused and fully with Christ duuring prayers.

@The Catholic Talk Show can you tell me if exodus 90 is suitable for 18year olds?
If it is I will show my son it but if it isn’t I don’t what to tell him about it.
He has recently realised the importance of the Rosary himself.
while I constantly encourage him to pray the Rosary and to ask for Saints and Our Lady to intercede - for a couple of years now he has always asked St. Padre Pio to intercede for him
(he always hears me praying the rosary at least once a day/I try when I can to say the rosary two/three times a day - he knows that he can always come join me in saying the rosary or just ask me and I will say it with him)
I never want to force him to pray it daily as I want him to keep his faith and grow his prayer life as he gains the graces - as we live in a highly secular area of Scotland with very few Catholics around and I know that as a teenage sue to living in this area I really struggled with my faith especially when being forced to do things due to the lack of a Catholic community, so I don’t want his faith shaken like I had mine.
Although I have been very lucky with him, he hasn’t had to experience the horrific bullying and down right cruelty I experienced growing up in the 80’s/90’s (due to being Irish and catholic), that he told me that he would actually pray the rosary sometimes while on breaks at school when he was really struggling and for several years now he has been questioning whether he is being called to the Priesthood in some form - so I only want to keep encouraging him in his journey with Christ rather than force it.

    • @MrColinwith1L
      @MrColinwith1L Před 2 lety +1

@@MichielvanWessem The project is nearly complete in its parts. The psalms are available now and can be used in all liturgical contexts, and the Latin hymns will be released this year for immediate use. The interrim documents have mainly followed the current NABRE and Lectionary, but with deference to the 2011 Missal translation, as the templates for translating everything else. The LOTH part still unfinished is basically the antiphons being updated to match the new psalter, which probably will not take that long since they usually come from the psalter directly.
The remaining delay is due to the need for the NT to be retranslated from the 1986 edition, a project that had already been ongoing. So I think what we will see around 2023-2024 is that this effort result in a new combination of Lectionary, official Bible translation for liturgy and study, and Liturgy of the Hours, all intended to correspond with the 2011 missal translation and give us a unified biblical and liturgical language.
It'll be well worth the wait, because the texts already released are so much more accurate in communicating the substance of the Latin texts and the authentic call to holiness as opposed to a worship of sensationalism -- it baffles me how they ever got the 1970s translations approved in the first place, because some of the choices that were made have no literal basis whatsoever, least of all the hymn selections. But hopefully this grand effort of authentic renewal will be ready at the bishops meetings in 2023 or 2024 to send it to print in 2025.

Gentlemen, please forgive my confusion. To clear it up, I hope this question can be addressed. In the 4 volume version on Saturday Night Prayer for Lent/Eastertide, we begin with Psalm 4. The Antiphon is properly printed before & after the psalm. However, during the Easter season, the Antiphon is "Alleluia"; but, it's not printed after the psalm. In my book, it's page 1625. It's printed after the second Psalm. So, during the Easter season, does one say the triple Alleluia between these psalms or, wait until after the second Psalm? Thanks for your leadership. Pax

We read in 1 John 4:14: And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
When Jesus spoke the words that you mentioned, he was upon the cross in great suffering as we read in 1 Peter 2:24, Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree...
This was to fulfill the prophesies in Isaiah 53 (as well as others). There, we read, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
After his death, he was buried and rose on the third day, according to the scriptures (see 1 Corinthians 15:3-4). He is the risen Christ in heaven today with God the Father.
Jesus offers the forgiveness of sins and eternal life to all who believe on him ( see Romans 6:23, Colossians 1:14, Acts 16:30-31).
Put your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, trusting that his death, burial, and resurrection paid for your sins in full.

He was praying Psalm 22 on the cross as a way to point out that He was fulfilling the Messianic prophecy of that Psalm.

I have nothing against the "Liturgy of the Minutes" (as our pastor calls it). But the American edition is terrible. Language and trasnlation is just horrible. You dont get the entire psalter. Many of the psalms are redacted to get rid of manly verses. The Catholic Book Publishing version is cheap and low quality for a high price. Art is so bad it borders on a sin. I recommend to get the UK version by Harper-Collins. It three volume, better translation, higher quality, cheaper. I also recommend the Anglican Ordinariate Breviary. Its essentially the Book of Common Prayer, classical/beautiful English, and you pray the entire psalter in 30 days in Morning and Evening+Night Prayer. No patristic readings but almost the entire Bible read liturgically.
