Vložit
- čas přidán 5. 09. 2024
- A fan asks astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, "What do you think the bright spot on Ceres is?" Before Neil ventures a guess, he recaps for comedian Chuck Nice what we do know about Ceres. Find out why Ceres is round, and what the differences are between Pluto and Ceres. Neil tells Chuck how Ceres was discovered and named. Finally, Neil takes his best guess at what might be causing the bright spot.

"A bright spot on Ceres....I have no idea" XD
Much better than an argument from ignorance, right? memedad.com/memes/902703.jpg
Fml
someone said that the dark side of Ceres also have bright spots...
Ask yourself how did they take a look at the dark side of Ceres? because "someone said"
@@paulclosed6690how did they see the bright side? Someone said that too… your logic isn’t…
A picture was taken@paulclosed6690
@@paulclosed6690nasa stuck a satellite in its orbit for about 6 months…
I thought it also had reflecting lights on the dark side too, how does that happen?
this
Sme light emitting from geothermal chemical reaction
It's obviously an alien holding a mirror, that's what the History Channel "Aliens" guy would say :P
No i think he would say that it is an alien city that was built by ancient Egyptians
+MegaAwesomeNick Lol exactly! :D
EXACTLY....hahaha
Or is it?
@@corpsi9761 Now, eight years later I can say for sure : it was actually space ghosts.
The bright spot is John Cena! *Theme song*
How could it be John Cena if you *CAN* see it?
:^)
Ohh nice meme I totally haven't head that one yet.
+Raviex good one
John "Ceres" Is Dead.
Such a 2016 comment lmao
I like watching the woman in behind the glass react to the conversations. Makes me laugh watching her.
so why does it glow even on dusk times?
Wow you guys've been doing this together for a while happy to see.
Who is here after watching Joe Rogan
Are you kidding me? - No, Im Ceres.
underappreciated comment
Why so Ceres?
i am Sirius
Metal Maestro No, youre Snape.
I don't get it
I think it could be a large vein of some highly purified metal, like silver or aluminum
raw diamond
We just need to convince the American its oil and they'll invade Ceres tomorrow.
+SnowToad they'd cause a fake Independence Day and then attack Ceres
please upload longer videos!! or the entire transmition!! I admire you Neil!! You Rock!
So you're saying it's frosting?
Yes and Ceres is actually just a giant Mini-Wheat. It may sound strange to think that a dwarf planet is made of food, but remember the moon _is_ made of cheese.
Ceres is a space donut confirmed
I am currently eating mini-wheats
funny
My favorite part of the show is the woman's disembodied head floating in the background, great effects!
look, I'm not saying it's aliens
so I'm not gonna say it's aliens
The way Chuck pronounced "Ceres" is the correct one, btw.
A pair of studies published in the respected science journal NATURE suggested that the phenomenon is caused by light reflected off salt or mineral ice.
"The global nature of Ceres bright spots suggests has a subsurface layer
that contains briny water ice," said Andreas Nathues at the Max Plank
Institute for Solar Research, Göttingen, Germany.
Ceresly? Couldn't help it :)
It isn't ice, since ice would sublimate in the airless surface of Ceres. Instead it is precipitated salts, which also show up very brightly. Ceres likely has brine in its mantle and occasionally some is expelled from impacts. The water evaporates to the void of space leaving behind the salts.
The best part of this video is watching the chick's face in the backround
Who is the gorgeous engineer in the booth? She's been there for several episodes and I always notice.
Finally, a new video that is actually space related.
It could also be a mix of elements causing some sort of illumination
So Ceres is between mars and jupiter? Why did i think it was on the outskirts of the solar system? That's literally next door.
I also heard that a more likely explanation is that it is salt. An underground salt deposit that was drenched up by an impact.
Why are the episodes so short?
Because there are only segments recorded of the actual show
+Daniel galvan where can i find the whole show?
check out the links in the description
none of those links lead to full episodes...........
How did I miss this…?
Love me some Star Talk!

StarTalk Radio Thanks
i do not use any of these :(
will stephen hawking ever come on this show
good to see you again neil
what do you guys think about the electric universe theory?
Hi Neil, i have a huge question that cannot let me sleep!
I heard the last week tha the expansion rate of the universe was wrong, and the universe it is expanding faster that we thought.
Do that means that the age of the universe is also wrong? and if so, how old is the universe really?
I really hope this question appears in the next StarTalk video. Thanks
Almost
That doesn’t explain the dark side having a bright spot.
NASA watching this like: "CHHHHIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLL"
im not a scientist but i personally think neils opinion is wrong here they have found lights on ceres on even the darkest parts so how is light reflecting so visibly for us to see even though there is no light for it to reflect on?
Actually his opinion is correct
being that this VIDEO WAS
RECORDED 8 YEARS AGO.
Only recently they discovered
the dark side of Ceres had
lights on too. So you should
tell the entire story rather try
to sound like you are smarter
than NDT 🙄🤦🏽♂️
0:29 Chuck should've hosted Cosmos tbh.
glad it is in Ceres not Parallel
Well done
Neil, where did you get that shirt!?
First time he didn't know.
I thought they figured it out it was Magnesium salts?
“Thats my guess” - how science is done today
But how does the ice shine on the dark side also?
NDT admitting he doesn't know something just raised him a few pegs in my book unlike Billy Carson who wants to talk about "the lights being on" as if to infer....well, whatever he wants to appear to know
Who is the girl in the back
A tec person
Whatever the bright spot on Ceres is, we are certainly *NOT* going to find out about it from Neil DeGrasse Tyson!
That was my prediction before even watching the video. And oh, no surprise there.
Are there more cells (eukaryotic & prokaryotic) on earth or are there more celestial bodies (planet-size minimum) in our universe.
BladeWinters cells hell there’s more bacteria alone on earth that all the planets in the observable universe
Well it didn't turn out to be what I hoped it would be, an on button.
My science teacher brought me here. I'M LOOKING AT YOU STECKLER
It's where all the cereal box prizes come from.
WOW signal came from Ceres?
Ceres, the breakfast for astronomers and astrophysicists.
Is that Mary Elizabeth Winstead back there?
Looks like neil getting a bit nervous here.
The bright spot is in a crater, figure it'd be metallic ejecta that splashed from the impact.
Where can I find the full episode of these?
download startalk podcast!
They air the TV edition of this in the National Geographic channel.
I thought NDT said there was a lot of salt on Ceres.
Least you're honest!
no abandoned alien base? :(
He not allowed to say what it is
I think it is an abandoned alien outpost, or maby it isn't abandoned
Or it's just ice.
yeah, it's an old abandoned kree outpost during the kree, skrull war.
Or maybe an abandoned war factory
Oh yeah I have a war factory and I hit Ceres
On the Joe Rogan Podcast, which is the world's most accurate source of scientific facts, I learned that these light shine even on the dark side of Ceres?
it's sodium
I think there's a bug, there seems to be a dislike button on this video smh
probably glass
Billy says otherwise
Why can't Tyson walk to Ceres and take a look.
Dwarf PLANET? This is just frustrating
Come on now we all know it was not discovered. The annunaki been talking bout serez for hundreds of years
Source
Wait this some scientology crap?😂
I thought the bright spot was already confirmed to be a collection of salt reflecting sunlight. Am I wrong?
It could be an alien city. The brightest spot looks like Las Vegas from space
We all know blue light helps our eyes .. aliens knew that forever so why not have all lights blue .. damn I just solved it 😂
The bright spot is the S. O. S. from Earth's earlier space settlers
Somme Koiiiind of alien mirrorrrr
cryo volcano?!
Pluto is trying its best to become a planet, it cant achieve its dream if we keep putting it down like that.
All he has to do is clear his orbit
poor Charon =(
mantis1s1k Pluto master dwarf
Sounds like a plot for another shounen anime
Well dammit, if Pluto identifies itself as a planet, who are you to say otherwise?!?! He can use the planet bathroom if he want to!!
#TooSilly
Lol I pronounced it wrong.
Could you blow soap bubbles om Mars or any other planet?
Only on planets with an atmosphere, so there's actually air to blow.
Mars is one of those planets.
would the gravitational pressure have anything to do with it im not too keen on the phhysics of bubbles but would it pop it?
maxx flame You mean atmospheric pressure specifically?
All it's needed for the bubble to exist is that the pressure inside and outside the bubble is the same. Which is what will normally happen on any atmosphere.
But when you breathe out you blow co2 and other trace gases but if the atmosphere is a heavier gas like chlorine wouldn't it be impossible for the pressure to equalize?
maxx flame Whatever gas you may have in your body, it will always get compressed or decompressed to match the outside pressure (this is what happens to divers).
Can't watch this because Siri.
Oh I hit Ceres accidently in Space and I was sorry and he said it's ok even before I said sorry......
Anyone else noticed the chick in the background
It's clearly a Starbucks
mmmm frosted flakes
Hey Star Talk can you prove Rockets work in space to disprove the hoaxers and can you do a video to disprove flat earth.
Keeping it real sense honey nut Cheerios!
So he has no idea- and that’s worthy of making into a clip
sea reese planet nookatima andard planet that is habitat is full of alien marqueetadors
mining facility
big enough? massive enough. .
1. Ceres is an asteroid not a planet.
2. No
I was eating cereal as I watched this 😊
CERE-Al
It's probably just God, shinning there, so... Take that, atheists
I have one question...
Why the hell is God standing on an asteroid?
coz omnipresent that's why, take that atheist
Lone Wanderer Then wouldn't the whole universe shine?
***** So he bench presses planets/asteroids? Alright then.
its actually salt, not ice. 100% of Ceres' surface is already ice
so all of the largest astrobodies are spherical, except for this one... hmm I have to think about this...
I got it! He's lying and all of the objects in space are vinyl records. That explains the sound waves, right? remember like the Lauren Hill video, Everything is Everything, and relatively speaking, everything is a flat record producing sound. That's why Carl Segan sent a gold record into space. But he didn't go Platinum, now did he!
Is that politically correct. Can we say small planet
Ceres is wokanda fr.

It says that it's "likely" made of salt doesnt mean it is
