Today, I made my last-ever debt payment. 1 year 3 months, 160k. Poof. no more. House, cars everything paid off at 44yo. I watched this show for a full week while laid up recovering from an injury. Forever changed how I view debt, and how I turned it all around. Me and wifey busted our buts, they've never been firmer. Dave, team. TY!
Awesome!
Congrats!!
Friday will be my final payment and, it was brutal but I can say then that I will be 100% debt free, too! I will never let myself be stupid again. Lesson learned.❤
WOW!! Congratulations 🎉 👏🏼
Total rockstar
Congrats! Welcome to the world of financial freedom!!!! 🎉
Next month i will have paid off all my student loans and be completely debt free. There is a light at the end of the tunnel🙌🥳
Here's the great part - my 30-ish sons some years back went to local college working 40+ hr weeks in retail, lived at home with mom, nearly died lol to have no college debt. Today they're both CPA's, great work, each with pd for cars and each with a house. **The point is they realize they're rich and free compared to their coworkers paying school loans. They help their widowed mom (me 😊), take trips, work like demons but enjoy life. You'll now be able to do more of the same. Congratulations!!!
Amen! Congratulations 🎉
Brought rice and beans to work (hamburger helper leftovers), this show keeps us motivated.
You have started down the right path Focus on economical nutritious food.
Hamburger Helper goes hard. Good stuff
This show keeps me motivated as well!
I love hamburger helper!
I started to get really serious on paying off my debt in March 2024 (student loans and car payment) 30k student loans and 10k car payment
Car is payed off
Student loan is down to 16k ... man I can see the light
Ramsey Show has changed my life! Step 3 is the hardest part and not talked about enough. Need more tips and testimonials on how to create the emergency fund and retain it.
I opened a high yield savings account through Betterment. It is linked to your bank but you don’t have automatic access to withdraw, which is what Ramsey Corp recommends.
It pays about 4.75 back which is great.
I recommend six months worth of expenses to my clients.
It is hard but you feel a peace that feels like a warm blanket.
I agree! I think it’s psychologically harder. I found it more motivating to pay down debt and see my debt shrinking but for some reason I don’t get that same dopamine hit from saving for my emergency fund. I doesn’t help that I’m trying to save for 6 month emergency fund. Seems to be taking longer than I thought. I am impatient to start paying down my mortgage lol.
You are so right. Do a chart/poster. You can get some online (called debt payoff tracker, but use it to track how much you've put away for FFEF). That helped us a ton!!
It is really tough for me. I make one step forward and something shitty happens and I have to get into that fund. But I am grateful that it is there. I am still determined to get it done.
I learned from the first few callers that not only should I get out of debt to buy a home and start a family one day, but to be prepared for anything! I don’t know whether I’ll have triplets or a child with health issues, or anything else. Debt on top of those challenges sounds so stressful. I know people are resilient, but paying off my debt is something I can control!
Loved this episode ❤
Yes that is such a good perspective! We never know what will happen and getting things knocked out during the good times when we think we have no reason to knock out debt is so important. You got this Joanne!

Some things will be unpredictable and beyond your control. Therefore control whatever you have power over. Pay that debt. Don't accumulate debt. Your values religious and others matter as you choose a life partner and raise kids.

What classifies as “good behavior?” He acts like he always does! Making jokes 1:44:48 for example, being serious, loving people well, and showing deep compassion and empathy to the callers. That’s Dr. John in a nutshell. He’s a goofball but we love him! ❤😂

Nicole has reminded of me and my daughter mid 2022. My daughter had an orthopedic surgery. It was long overdue. I took a few days off work and bu the time i returned to work my contract had been terminated. It was rough going forward because it took me by surprise so i was ill-prepared. However, I took care of my daughter. There were many medical appointments & procedures so having no job gave me time to nurse her to full recovery. It has been hard to find a proper job but I am learning new things and rebranding myself. I am learning to care for myself as well.
Most rich people stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then most poor people stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich but impressing them
People prefer to spend money on liabilities, Rather than investing in assets and be very profitable
You are so correct! Save, invest and spend for necessities and a few small luxuries relatives to one's total assets ratio.

Erections have consequences
I looked into the SAVE plan that Dept of Ed offered me and I could have gotten payments as low as $130.00 a month which means I would have the loans until I die. I made the choice to pay my loans $500 a month immediately upon graduation in 2021 when loan payments were in forbearance and interest free. I went from 63K to 49K. Now that I have no other debt except the student debt and a mortgage I am going to go for over 1K payments a month. I am not waiting around for empty promises from the Government.
Man that 1k towards mortgage principal would go so far. SAVE eliminates interest. But props nonetheless
@@PanopticonMind Thanks. Paying on the mortgage before the debt is fighting the Baby Steps 😃 I'll get to the mortgage soon enough it's a 15 year fixed at 2.99% so good progress is being made each month to principal.

We've also tightened our belt significantly and I'm shocked at how much we're saving by not going out to eat, slowed out general spending and been really careful with our groceries.
An article in my local paper said that there's a woman who's been paying on her student loans since 2006. She wants to apply for this new program. I was so stunned... she's obviously never heard of Dave Ramsey.
I feel you on this. The save plan is only paying the interest in my case. I signed up for forgiveness but nothing is guaranteed so I am paying the save amount plus the interest that is accruing. Some people don’t think I should do this but I am doing it anyway.
first caller. hit the student loan. buy good will clothes for kiddos. the younger they are they don’t mind what they wear. once school starts then pressure comes on what they are wearing. go for the time you can cut corners now! get things paid off. at that much money you should be able to do it in 1.5 years without strain

Thank you. You have inspired me. And you are speaking truth about Student loans. I'm going into defcon 1. I've had my student loan forever. Time to pay it off in two years. A credit card of my husband says 30% interest is first. Two years from now I want to be debt free. My student loan is 2.85.

Idk if the producers read these comments but please tell the Ramsey team: medical doctors and nurses cannot defer admission, change admission dates or go part time. It just isn’t an option. Most of these programs are difficult to get into and start once a year..no exceptions. I am a CRNA and was fortunate to get into a program without being waitlisted. You have to start when the rest of the class starts and can’t go part time. In fact if something happens and you need to take time off, you have to wait until the next class starts the following year to resume the program. I’m referring to John’s suggestion that the RN start the anesthesia program in January instead of June. It’s just not a reality.
Dave was too harsh on the first caller. Them infants expensive men!!
What a blessing though !!! Triplets:) He can’t see it yet as he is stressed
No he wasn’t. The caller wanted to spend the money on the wrong debt. The guy was okay paying debt, just not the student loans.
I say this with peace and love because I'm a fan of Dave and the gang. But will somebody tell Dave to stop telling wanna be pilots to just join the Air Force. In order for them to train you in flying you have to be a officer. To be an officer you have to have a college degree. If the dump truck driver wants to be a pilot. Thats fine. Get a degree in engineering from a good school. Then apply to the Air Force. Make sure they guarantee you a officer program. The Air Force doesn't train enlisted men. Enlisted men are fuel guys, drivers, and mechanics, and etc. Along with a degree from a good university you have to pass a numbers of tests. A F-35C cost close to 120 million dollars. Very few people actually fly in the Air Force. Your IQ has to be through the roof to become an Air Force pilot.
This is correct. And there is a large washout rate even if you are accepted. No guarantees.
I agree with everything except the high iq part. I was an aircraft technician in the Air Force and met my fair share of Air Force pilots….safe to say they don’t have high IQ’s. 😂😂😂😂 Amazing focus, ability to think on their feet, but I’ve come across a couple that were….ehhhh. lol
@@TheGrantrepreneur High IQ does not always accompany "good common sense: and "emotional intelligence" and good social skills. But they do have the higher IQs required of AF pilots.

@@flashthecorgi2053 I didn't say Larry didn't make money. Obviously a non-profit has to make money to function. He just had a different philosophy, that's all. There's nothing wrong with making money. That's obviously what Dave is all about when he regularly tells people to get out there and make MONEY. But Dave is also extraordinarily generous. The guy who cash-flowed his basement while still in debt shows me that if he sells his property to get out of debt, he will probably return to debt within a year. His priorities show he has not really changed. He is still spending on wants instead of paying off his debt.
James needed a tough love approach. Dave skipped the love and went straight to tough. James is obviouly overwhelmed with where he is at. He needs to sit down with his wife and figure it out before they make even worse decisions.

The wife should talk to her husband about paying back the 6,000. She will be better off if he is not requiring her to pay that back. He is her husband and makes a lot more money than she does.

Dave was too hard on the first caller with the triplets and 4 older kids. People with triplets often have to hire a nanny or get massive family/church support. They will not come up for air for 2+ years. Plus 4 older kids, absolutely unimaginable.
That said, we all agree the 31K student loan should have been gone by now. But unfortunately none of us is perfect and they are in survival mode for a while.
Triplet infants is a different situation than a family with 7 kids.
And in Dave’s defense, after the break they did a better job revisiting to topic.
They only had 2 older kids. The total family size was 7. But like Dave said, this had been going on for 5 years and the triplets were only 6 months old.
They now have 7 kids minus the 3 (triplets) they already had 4 kids not 2.

Dave laid out how to get girls. Ima get me one.
Tammy...you owe your husband? You have the wrong mindset! Also you can't save for retirement because you just bought a new car that you can't afford!
I didn’t know Dave just hangs up on people (first guy). I just wanna see consistency out of him. Sometimes he’s very calm and gentle. Other times he just cuts people off and literally hangs up on them.
Yeah he does that occasionally when he’s given the caller the same advice 30 times and the caller keeps on asking if they should keep doing their own plan which has extraordinarily failed up til now. I wouldn’t waste my time on someone who would rather make excuses either. Too many people calling in who really want help.
He’s not actually hanging up on them, he’s muting them because his response is ending. They can still hear him talking, however.
I've seen him do it before.
Dave is a little out of touch with the flight training stuff. 31 is the age cutoff for the Air/Army National Guard. It takes years to get through flight training even in the reserves. You don't just go to "a couple boot camps a year". I do agree that the military is the most cost-effective way to do it. But Dave is all wrong with his advice here.
Dave was harsh with first caller and should have given an Every Dollar app to first caller to help him out.He never been in his shoes and easy to say just “Pay off your student loan”when you have a bunch of kids that constant expense 🤦🏻♀️

8:02 "You're stepping over hundred dollar bills to pick up pennies". Current situation: I'm Dave-ish. I'm debt free and pay for things in cash and live below my means. However, I still have credit cards for the points (i.e. cashback on gas, something that I can't overspend on because I drive to work nonetheless). I just learned that when we pay with plastic we spend more because it doesn't activate the pain centers of our brain like cash does. Is this the equivalent of me stepping over dollar bills to pick up pennies?
They make a lot of blanket statements and generalizations on this show that are definitely not true for everyone. For example, I don't overspend just because I use CCs. I use my Sam's card for everything to do w/ my car - gas, tune-ups, repairs, etc. - and those are costs I would have regardless. Then I use the points from that card to get food for my church pantry. I put all the regular bills on my Visa which I pay off not at the end of the month, but as soon as a charge posts. I then turn those points into gift cards for family birthdays and Christmas. Again, those bills are not going to be any different if I used a debit card rather than a CC. But I'm very disciplined about money and would never pay more just because I'm using a CC.
@@Trustbutverify2651 That's awesome, thank you for sharing your experience!
