As promised, we are back with my analysis on Season 2 of the 2003 TMNT Series! Season 1 was a phenemonal reboot of a classic brand, however, I have always found Season 2...an underwhelming follow up, not because it's bad, but because it fails to reach the high standards of Season 1. The reasons why shall be explored in detail tonight!

Raph's reaction to Mikey beating him "oh no, Mikey might actually win!" And him shaking the other competitor as he has a breakdown is a highlight of this series. God this show is good.
As a person who grew up with the 2003 TMNT, I'm glad that there's actually videos that go into depth with it now. Thanks J!
Same. This was the TMNT I grew up with and still favor over most of the other versions after.

I do miss this Series but I’ll be ready when The new Tmnt Cartoon comes out soon.
I love how after Mikey wins the Battle Nexus tournament, he spends a good chunk of the next season rubbing it in everyone's faces. He keeps doing it for so long that it becomes annoying and then eventually circles back to being funny.

Does anyone else think that the twist with shredder being an utrom was an attempt of combining krang and shredder into the one villain?
Yup
It was because krang was an attempt to bring the utrom from the original comic into the 87 series.
That’s my personal headcanon as well. Heck, in Turtles Forever, they alluded to the parallels with Shredder commenting how the new suit made with Dimension X technology was similar to Utrom technology and they even had a brief clash with Kraang and Shredder comparing their suits.
It was a genius move.
@@rollerskdudeexactly when I first saw it for the first time when I was little I was like “Yup I knew it because I was paying attention to each episode “
I have to admit going from the 1987 cartoon to 2003 stressed me out loads because I didn’t realise 2003 was based more faithly to the comics but the more I watched it, the better it got, the design, the voice acting, the fact the turtles actually used there weapons, it’s a chef kiss of a series and at 36 years old, I still use some of the lines to my husband! @TenseDart and he ends up outliving everyone but bishop. Both baxter and bishop make appearances in the back to the future season, which is set in 2105!
It's his because he's still has his big brain why his Ego never went away.
The revelation that Shedder was an Ultrom was pretty surprising to me. I didn't know it caused a lot of controversy in the TMNT Fandom until years later.
I feel like there are 2 main reasons why it was such a big surprise, personally:
1) To my knowledge, every other previous incarnation of the Shredder had been human, so to find out that he's actually not one is extremely unexpected, it definitely caught me off guard the first time
2) I honestly think that it seems more like something they would have revealed later on in the series rather than towards the beginning of season 2. Usually, these kinds of twists are put into the story later as a way to surprise fans of the series and keep things fresh (although in some cases, it can come off as lazy writing, with the writers not being able to think of a better way to keep things interesting). I also think it would've worked better this way, since they could've played off Shredder being defeated more easily, and if they did have him somehow survive, it could've been justified by showing him survive comparable or possibly even worse injuries earlier to establish how nigh unkillable he is
him being and alien is from the blk and white comic but I guess you didn't read those so you got caught off guard by that reveal...
@@billybadass3056 Like I said in my comment in the Part 1 video, it was this show that introduced me to the Turtle's Series.
Me too dude and I didn’t know that this version of shredder was a utrom
It was lame like discovering that Principal Skinner was not the real Principal Skinner
All the filler stuff you mentioned that ends up reoccurring in later episodes is a great element I loved about this series. It really takes advantage of its comic roots with this kind of storytelling and makes it so the show doesn’t need to relegate this kind of lore introduction to major arcs or episodes relying on too much exposition. Notes from the underground is a great example since they kept introducing several creatures from the underground society mentioned in those episodes - but since you’ve already seen that and know about this society, you don’t need exposition every time they appear.
Yep
@@playerback7722 yep
I always loved that. It was so good the way it would tie in previous storylines
Oh and don't forget the Atlantis episodes where we see the true origin of the beasts
I gotta also say: something that is character development and not story development isn't filler. A good amount of things that is called "filler" is character development episodes.

With Utrom Shredder, some thoughts:
I actually really like it on paper for a few reasons. One is that, even removed from context, it's kind of a neat story. I mean, a benevolent alien race has crash-landed on Earth and seeks to return home, meanwhile a criminal of their species schemes against them in a war of two ancient conspiracies. This is a cool idea. Heck, you could make a good show just based on that premise alone!
Another thing is I think it works well to bridge the street-level plot with rising stakes. Like, the Ninja Turtles aren't just random street vigilantes who happen to be mutated turtles. Rather, they're only a few degrees of separation from, well, an ancient global conspiracy that involves aliens. It makes it easier to buy into the idea that these guys are Earth's Protectors, able to handle problems well outside the scope you expect from a street vigilante.
Also the ooze being of alien origins makes the mutation effect somewhat more plausible-sounding. I mean, I can suspend disbelief, but if the ooze is some byproduct of weird alien tech, it's even easier to do so.
I wish Shredder had more depth in this series though; They never explain why he is evil, he just is. He's actually comically evil to the point of having no other characteristics. The 2012 Shredder has an actual reason for turning evil, which I prefer.
Why didn’t they just put City at War before Secret Origin? You’d have to change a few plot points but you’d save a lot of face for Shredder and the whole story would flow so much better. As it stands Shredder returns, dies, and returns again in the span of just a few episodes resulting in him rapidly outstaying his welcome and losing a ton of credibility.
This show has my favorite Shredder, Hun, Casey and Stockman in it.
I remember being Hella surprised that Shredder was an alien as a kid. I was cool with it though, it just differentiates the series more from the others. (and then some in season 5).
Also, Battle Nexus, one of my most favorite episodes!😁
That is why I hated the Shredder in this series and stopped watching after season 1. That Alien was annoying in Turtles Forever.
@@rockdesu It would had been better if he didn't come back in the movie. They probably did it, solely to add All Shredders.
I remember being really surprised to learn that people didn't like Utrom Shredder. Having been raised on this version of the Turtles, I didn't learn that OG Shredder was a human until I was an adult. To me, Utrom Shredder _was_ the Shredder.
I also always loved how bananas this show gets after the first couple arcs. The Fugitoid stuff always really appealed to me as a young sci fi fan.
Same
I mean I was surosie too as a kid but mirage tmnt comics shredder later revealed as a alien worm
Just wanna give some props for the fact that this series has had several moments that made me stop and say “wow J really put some solid research into this one.”
Most notably with some of the art details. The mention of Donatello’s mask’s shading color changing last episode and the older character renders being used for action figures and stuff this episode. Well done
Out of all story-driven cartoons I’ve watched, this one has done filler episodes best. Almost all of them are very entertaining and worth watching on their own.
The particular placements of these episodes in each season is also great. A big thing they help with is cushoning between major arcs where some important stuff happens, and then you have the filler episodes to take a breath. And also these episodes help with establishing the inbetween time during major events, because you need some time after the Shredder dies, to have him get revived, or in S3 you need time to slowly establish Saki’s political influence over the city after the Triceraton invasion and before the finale.
But mostly they really helped to mix in the different elements of the world well (the Foot, aliens, magic, alternate dimensions, etc.). Something that S5 tried to do with the Nano episode and the banned one, but was a bit too focused on the major arc and didn’t have enough episodes to spare, while Fast Forward and Back to the Sewer didn’t bother doing it at all.
I was about to say what about Avatar:The last airbender. But then I remembered some of their filler episodes are ass
@@glasss-o-water5186Only "The Great Divide" sucked for me. Now that was truly trivial and worth skipping.
The Shredder just returning to life was a freaking bad idea. They could have just showed him (I don't know) escape like Zog did or something like that instead of killing him.
Also, I would point out that I don't think Shredder won the Battle Nexus. I mean, yes, his helmet shows in the hall of warriors, but is not a statue AND the design of his armor is actually kinda stolen from a certain group of "Ninjas" appearing in the 5th season.
But overall, it's still pretty a good season.
The episodes in the Tricerator homeworld are gold to me, and I can't wait to hear what you say about the 3rd and 4th seasons.
I heard that the reveal of Ch’rell back then was hated with the Shredder being an Utrom but I think people have seen how great of a villain Ch’rell was in these New Years.
I still hate it. Felt so weird
Boomers hated it because it wasn't an exact copy of their silly 80s cartoon.
It removed a lot from him being an utrom. Even as a kid, the moment I saw Bishop and how he is enhanced, I thought that the Shredder should have been a modified human by the Utroms who saved him from death back when they crashlanded and thus he became an enhanced, semi-cyborg human, which would explain why he can live forever without aging and survive getting his head cut off.
It would also add another twist to him mutilating Stockman as a form of projection of what the Utroms did to him when they saved him.
@@darthwalrus4740 I was 5-6 and hated it and I didn't know the 80s show existed at the time.
@@badass6300 ok, that still doesn't change the fact that many older fans hated it.
Can I just say I love you’re making these TMNT videos? If you couldn’t tell. I’m a big fan of all of TMNT. Haha. Keep up the great TMNT content!
I already have this series, and it's my favorite incarnation of TMNT.
I wish they'd Re-Release a Blu-Ray Version of the Entire Series.
I'd buy it just to collect it. This Show, ATLA, TCW's, Young Justice, plus many Great Shows before these just bring back some good memories of just watching it.
21:00 that was a good summation, so many recent critiques have argued if that every part of a work isnt put into place than its "Objectivly bad" this I even fell into this mindset for a bit and began to wonder if it was right for me to still enjoy stuff like Star Trek 2009, Kingdom Heart II, The Force Awakens, and WandaVision,. Thankfully I recognize now that you can still enjoy stories in spite of their flaws without having to label it a "guilty pleasure".
I Totally Agree With You That "Filler" Episode Are Demonized.
there Are Many Show I Think Could Be Improved With More "Filler" Episodes.
Something I forgot to mention in the last video is the TMNT were also one of the stars for “Fight For The Fox Box” (alongside Sonic, Kirby, and Cubix), a special 4Kids made for the network that reuses footage from shows on that block. It’s pretty insane at the very least.
With the Turtles in Space arc it felt weird to me in large part because of how much a detour it was. Like it was an arc within an arc. "We need to get back to Earth so we can save Splinter so we can go back to our regular lives more or less"
When you talked about the divide between TMNT fans that was once there, I felt that. For context, I was born in 98, so I grew up in the early 2000s. My dad introduced me to the TMNT by showing me the 87 series via VHS… and man did we have a lot of VHS tapes. By the time Season 1 of the 2003 series started I was already a huge fan of the Ninja Turtles, so I found myself really enjoying the series… but by the time the Turtles Forever special came out, the divide between Turtles fans got even bigger where I lived. On one hand 2003 fans made the original animated Turtles out to be incompetent (Turtles Forever made it worse), and on the other plenty of fans of the 87 show felt that the 03 show was trying to be super edgy… then there was me… a fan of both shows caught in the middle. I love both series even now, those two series are the ones I grew up watching, but both are very different things (like you pointed out when you said lots of older fans dropped 03 when Shredder was revealed to be an Utrom) and I feel both have their merits. One with an amazing feel good vibe and the other more story driven, but I think overtime, TMNT fans found peace with one another BECAUSE of how important the franchise and characters are to both factions… and it’s been nice ever since.
I mean, there's no much "war" between the 1987 fans and the 2003 fans anymore.
Someone, like me, hates the 1987 series not because is not as good as the 2003 one (it was actually pretty funny), but because it lead the franchise to a boring nostalgic back and forth.
Since it's the most famous, almost EVERYTHING regarding TMNT now is tied to that particular series, and that doesn't help the franchise growth.
I wish Nickelodeon could sell the rights to a more "adult content" company and give the TMNT a new life as a more interesting show since I think it does not work for children anymore.
@@The_D_ray To be honest, I think Nick gave us the best middle ground with the 2012 series… it was not as over the top comedic as 87 (though it had it’s moments) but it also had a good story in it’s own right (though maybe not as epic as 03 in if’s highest moments)… all the recent Rise of the TMNT series did was make me believe that Nick ran out of ideas to make TMNT work… so maybe we should make a more mature take. Honestly, I was hoping Nick would give TMNT a similar tone to Avatar the Last Airbender, where there was a strong story with great world building with great respect for the various aspects of the franchise… but no TMNT show has gotten to that level sadly.

Always though of it more like combining Shredder and Krang, nothing more. Heck the exo suits gave me Krang vibes to begin with.
Krang is based on the Utroms who were first introduced in the comics. Professor Jordan Perry in the 2nd TMNT film was even meant to have been revealed as an utrom, but was rejected because he would have been mistaken for Krang.
But it is likely that Krang's prominence led to the idea of Shredder being an alien warlord too. Hell, Oroku Saki was a real guy in this universe, so in a way, he's basically this show's version of Krang who just imitates Shredder.
with Shredder's reveal as an Utrom, i initially saw it as a callback to the '87 cartoon. i honestly thought they jumped the shark in making Shredder and Kraang one and the same, since i figured he was of the same race, at least in my headcanon. after the Utroms revealed themselves to the story, i kept expecting to see Kraang turn up at some point, but he was just a memory until the Bay movie
Nah I’m pretty sure he was one of the Utroms that died in Secret Origin
@@LinkinMark1994krang evacuated onto the teleporter
i have to admit as a kid the Shredder being an alien at first was my least favorite part of the series, but eventually it grew on me to the point where he is still my favorite version of the character, plus i realized the benefits and things they could get away with by having his human form be a robot suit instead of an actual person. Also i agree with the critique on the Secret Origins ending, it wouldve been more believable if they just had Chr'ell escape somehow and lay low for a bit instead of putting him in a fatal situation and then hand-weave how he survived it.
Grew up in the mid 90's and early 2000's watching both old reruns of the 80's show and the 2003 show. The 2003 show is my all-time favorite Turtles incarnation. But one of the best things to come out of this, is the Crossover Movie where the 80's characters meet the 2003 characters. The interactions are just PURE GOLD! From 80's Shredder being intimidated, scared and bullied by his more modern counterpart, to all the hilarity the 8 (!) Turtles comes up with as they try to work together.
I feel like 2003 Shredder could be summed up in one Spongebob quote: "How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!" Seriously, how many times is this dude gonna be beaten/'killed' before coming back a few episodes later? ...Honestly, this quote also applies to Stockman but I don't mind him coming back over and over because, like you said, he's entertaining and you kinda have to respect the guy for his determination.
Yea the difference is that stockman coming back over and over is a running gag that was completely intended, where as shredder returning just gets stale after the first couple times because its taken more seriously
I really love the TMNT 2 Battle Nexus. I played it so many times when I was younger and I even replayed it with my brother last year and it still holds up. Such a great and underrated game
Super heroes being in TMNT 2003 does kind of make sense when you realize the turtles can crossover with the DC universe, meaning super heroes and batman exist in their world, though applied retroactively of course
Damn this is such a big trip down memory lane for me. Really bringing in some great nostalgia while still being critical I can respect that.
One continuity mistake I noticed was with Future Shredder, in world without donnie, he had aged more in ten years than thousand years
What! The Shredder won THE Battle Nexus?! That totally went over my head as a kid. That is insane! It's like finding out 2 things you didn't expect to be connected have history together and now I want to see the Shredder past involvement in it, especially with all of the aliens.
Judging by the helmet it likely isn't, but imagine if this wasn't Utrom Shredder, but Tengu Shredder foreshadowing? Talk about a missed opportunity.
6:01 even as some who loves the 2003 series I must admit a lot of the series does roast or make fun of the original series especially Turtles Forever which unfortunately is the biggest blunder of that movie and the series. Thankfully 2012s series helped to make the older fans happy with better tributes to that era.
yeah that's why i not that fond of turtles forever i wanted to like it because there was some cool stuff in it but the movies poor treatment of the 1987 series kinda kill the enjoyment i was once watching a review of turtles forever and a lot of the comments were saying the reason the 2003 series roast and make fun of the original show was because peter laird one of the turtles creators and help make the 2003 series hated the 1987 series i don't know if he out right hates it the wikipedia page for the 1987 series did say that "peter express his distaste with the show on numerous occasions" i guess means he wasn't super fond of the show but he did acknowledge that "it was successful and beloved by audience".
and the reason the 2012 series did a better job with the 80's turtles was because it was mad by people who were fans of the 1987 series.
Even tho I love Turtles Forever overall, the flanderization towards the OG series is definitely an issue for me. Had some entertaining moments, but also went too far, imo.
The surprise finale, however, was fantastic in my opinion.

I actually disagree. I know Turtles forever gets hated on a bit for being unfair to the 87 turtles, but as an 87 TMNT fan, when I watched Turtles Forever I felt like it was being a bit tongue-in-cheek about the 87 turtles, but not in a disrespectful way. They were goofy, but they were still Ninja Turtles and they got the respect even of the 84 comics turtles by the end of the movie. In contrast I felt the 2012 series crossover made them out to be complete morons who literally didn't even know how to use their weapons. I was very disappointed in the 2012 series when it did that crossover.

Thank you so much for talking about the handheld versions of these games! Nobody ever talks about the handheld versions and more people need to play them. Battle Nexus and Mutant nightmare on handheld are ok but, the first game based on season 1 aged very well and has an impressive amount of polish for a licensed game in my opinion. And OMG the ost slaps so hard!
It only dawned on me recently that Season 2 is mostly multi-parters. That's not a bad thing though, as I think they're all very good episodes. I think Rogue In The House is my favorite episode of this season. Season 2 brought in plenty of new adversaries and allies for the Turtles, while still giving focus to ones from the 1st season.
As much as a love this show, this is probably my least favorite version of Kurai. On one hand, I can respect that they kept the relationship between her and Saki up to the audience's interpretation (e.g. why he took her in in the first place, trusts her with his secret identity).
On the other hand, Kurai's character conflict between honor and loyalty was clearly building up to her betraying Saki for her honor, but that moment just never comes.
Then in Season 4 she's furious at Leonardo for what happened to Ch'Rell, even though Ch'Rell spent the better part of Season 3 abusing her.
I think the implication is that Kurai is an abuse victim who either doesn't understand how badly Saki treats her or she's in denial and believes he truly loves her. And maybe he does, but it's certainly never shown during the series.
Keeping a theme of abuse in subtext for Season 2 and 3 is fine, but by Season 4 it needed to be more explicit if they were going to keep her around as a villain.
She literally became Shredder in season 4. I think it was pretty obvious she was a villain at this point. She sought to destroy the turtles out of revenge for what they did to her father who she believed was a victim of the Utroms due to obvious brainwashing.
Even during season 5 when they want to help her, she rejects them and feels she can handle anything because she's Shredder and just generally acts like she doesn't respect the Turtles anymore, especially after they broke their truce to save Donnie.
Honestly Exo Karai is the reason why season 4 is my least favorite season out of the first 5 seasons.
Karai in the 2003 series didn't really think for herself.
As someone who's entry into the franchise was the 2012 series, I'm still amazed how many characters of that series originated in this one.
Was there ever a reason the super heros in the show never stopped Shredder? I feel like they would have to clash at some point
Probably due to the Shredder being more underground and less of a public face. Heck it’s shown that he has a clean public image in season 4 so they probably never thought to look into him. Kinda like Lex Luther before Superman came around
That always bugged me. The only time the superheroes really enter into the plot was the triceraton invasion. Other than that, they never help aside from the time the turtles ask for their back up against the tengu shredder. I guess it’s a conflict of street level crime vs super crime, but Nobody was a street level hero and he never helped out the turtles much either.

Please more turtle content! The 2007 TMNT movie is the best incarnation of the turtles, and the PS2 game based on it is actually incredible
I loved whole Shredder twist and nobody can convince me otherwise
2003 is one of the best adaptation on the TMNT
I always felt like the 2003 incarnation was the definitive edition of the franchise. Glad this video exists to prove that belief.
Same. I did some digging on the comics recently to compare and contrast and this show really does feel like a more comprehensive and better thought out version of what they were doing with the comics. Sure, not everything is better or ideal, but it's a far more complete take on the TMNT that just gets the general idea of the comics across so much better.
Honestly, I wish we could get a show that does what this show did with the Mirage Comics for the IDW books.
^All of this
The series needs way more recognition
J bringing back my childhood one video at a time.
I for one found 2003 TMNT better than the old one, because it's more action packed and more serious.
It always amazes me just how entertaining these long videos are. I'm not one for videos over 30 minutes but I can't help but enjoy the ride with J's Reviews' videos. It sounds cheesy, but it's true.
This was always my favorite TMNT show.
With filler, it's gotten such a stigma because shows like Naruto and Dragon Ball (and most certainly One Piece) are loaded with it for various reason, extending the series out for episodes at a time and that filler contributes nothing to the plot and is often never brought up as the show snaps back to the source material once it's done.
I think it's worse when they lump character moment episodes in. And also toss in just about anything that doesn't follow up on particular story bits

I hope you eventually find the time to review some of the more "popular to hate" media like the ATLA live-action movie. It would be nice to see a breakdown of why something is terrible without having to listen to someone froth at the mouth while telling me how offended they are by its existence.
Even as a child, the Shredder's return after his "death" at the start of s2 always bugged the crap outta me! Yea, after watching your whole analysis of s2, I think I like it a little less now. Totally enjoyable, but seeing it in a different light now.
20:24. Is there any actual evidence that the Guardians know Shredder is an Utrom though? We know that Splinter and Hamato Yoshi and probably many of the other Guardians during the time of Hamato Yoshi but who is to say that the new Guardians were not told this information. Not saying you're wrong but there is a world where the Mortu intentionally did not tell the Guardians Shredder was an Utrom.
The twist of Che’rell always bugged me for one really big reason: Shredder is supposed to be a master of martial arts. If he is using a robot body, he has an unearned advantage. As the “master” of the Foot, why on Earth would anyone learn from him? Learn what exactly?
Him adopting a human girl as a daughter makes even less sense too.
This is something that many tmnt fans can't understand. They say that the Shredder in this multi-series is a "robot". But this is not so, the Shredder here is rather a first-class pilot of this exo suit. He is indeed a martial artist, as this exoskeleton is an extension of his body.
2003 series Turtles > 2007 movie Turtles > 80s series Turtles > 80s movies Turtles > 2012 series Turtles > 2012 movies Turtles
That being said I genuinely love all iterations of them.
That 2014 dude
Love the series so far. It's well edited, and I appreciate the acknowledgement of the plot holes and errors.
Stockman losing more and more of his body is funny with how he just keeps going, but it does lead to a gut-wrenching and unsettling episode down the line.
great video to watch straight after school
Here we go!
Awesome review about the amazing TMNT 2003, and out of all the episodes one of my most favorite story arc it's "Turtles In Space" and "Secret Origin"!
These are some fantastic break-down videos! Good work. I grew up on the 2003 TMNT cartoon, but looking over your review, it looks like I only fully experienced the first two seasons as a kid, with maybe a scattered episode or two from later on. It's such a strange feeling to see these episodes, that I thought were far deeper into the series, all playing out in the first two seasons. I'm looking forward to seeing more breakdowns and learning where the story went from when I dropped off. Keep up the great work, it's appreciated!
This was my childhood after I BARELY catches the older version, I rewarded 2003 so many times I couldn’t tell heads from tails but knew about shredder death before the tournament, fast forward was fun but also let down I barely even remember the plot mostly that the new female lead was my favorite.
Was waiting for this. Great job on the first part!
That starting section was excellent, and much needed. I remember wanting to play Mutant Melee so bad
but my PC was too underpowered to either play that version or emulate the GC one, and speaking of games
my faves come from the '07 movie. PC and GBA port. Not much to add to the season discussion but man.
It's just so cool to see stuff like Fugitoid and the Triceratons from the Mirage comics, and done so well at that
Great review!
There are also a few other "plot-holes" on this season that I noticed when I recently re-watched the show.
-The transmat seemed like a complete and working device: it sent the turtles off-world, it brought them back, it sent the federation and triceratons back, and then sent the utroms back to their home world. So, if the transmat was already working fine, why didn't the utroms use it to return home before this whole arc? It feels like they could have gone home days/weeks before those events. Or did the transmat coincidentally get ready right after the Return to New York arc and they were waiting for Splinter to heal?
-Was Master Yoshi the last human guardian? Or were there other humans who working as utrom guardians? If there were, did they leave Earth with the utroms (it seemed only utroms were leaving on the transmat)? Because they clearly did not walk out of the TCRI building before it blew up. lol
-I always felt like Leatherhead's backstory was not very well developed. I mean, if he was part of the "utrom family", why did they leave him behind? The utroms even invited Honeycutt to go with them, but they left Leatherhead behind and never even bothered looking for him. I understand the writers' intent was to leave Leatherhead on Earth so he could become an ally of the turtles, but then they should have come up with better reasons for him to have stayed on Earth.
What do you guys think?
I love season 2 because it expanded the turtles universe in a *BIG* way. It really showed that there was much more too it than just the street levels the turtles started off as. I do understand _why_ season one was better, thematically it flowed much better than season two, but season two is my favorite of the two, with just how they were able to expand the lore in a way that made sense, even if a bit garbled from time to time.
Stockman's constantly being placed in a new body is an idea very similar to "Gargoyles" character Coyote.
Broooo you just unlocked some treasured memories mentioning the games! Me and my cousins used to go OFF on Battle Nexus especially!
27:25 The Ultimate Ninja is actually the first TMNT episode I've ever seen. That's what got me into the TMNT.
The Shredded surviving the implosion is definitely the biggest plot whole in the show. And like you said he just started to lose a lot. Maybe the utrom physical body isn’t appropriate for the plot.
Continuity wise, it makes sense that they are capable of beating him, but he should've beaten them at least once in this Season, imo. Just to remind everyone that he's their archenemy.
He loses credibility as a villain in season 2. He gets taken out twice in Secret Origins Part 3 and when the turtles fight him they're more on his level than ever before. He gets defeated in Rogue in the House Part 2 and when Karai gets him at the end of the episode his leg or part of it is missing.
Had a rewatch of the series this summer with a friend and yeah I can still enjoy season 2, but even if you don't do an in depth analysis you can still feel the little decline between the excellent season 1 and the still really good but in some aspects flawed season 2
Imagine if someone else laughed when Ch'rel quipped his "A-head" zinger, and Ch'rel was like "This guy gets it." in his dry, menacing voice.
Ive always wanted to rewatch this series but i never have the time, so its great that you are doing a review of every season so i can remember all these storylines, thank you.
Okay so, I've only seen the first season of TMNT 2003 on Paramount+, and while I enjoyed the characters and their dynamic, by the time I got to the end of the season, I was feeling both overwhelmed and bored as the story just kept getting stretched out with action. I stopped right after the first ep of s2 and haven't managed to find the motivation to start it again. I'm currently 14mins into this video and honestly just listening to your explanation of the eps that I would have watched had I kept watching just makes it all sound so EXHAUSTING! I get that the writers would want to cram in as much exciting stuff as possible but my god, take a breath!
That being said, this very much could be a personal problem of mine - as I have a hard time staying focused on most shonen anime or other types of shows that have a ton of serialization and usually just watch more slice of life or episodic shows. Cause like, I really do enjoy these versions of the characters, and the one off episodes are enjoyable too. But I just CAN'T with all this dense storytelling. I'm gonna keep watching this video/series because I enjoy your content, J's Reviews, but you've pretty much cemented my decision to mostly stick with Rise of the TMNT, the 1987 show, and the various TMNT movies.
I'm interested to hear your take on the episode "Same as it never was"
Hey it's metalhead from the 80s ! Nice cameo
Man, I only remember watching this series as a kid through the Turtles in Space episodes, as I had the DVDs that covered that arc. I remember re-watching those episodes a LOT, I loved these episodes!! Off those alone, I got into TMNT for a hot minute, looking for toys and catching the show on TV and such. Very fond memories, and glad that I came across your video series to help spark those memories back into me! I might have to check the show out again in a full watch-through sometime soon!
I remember this reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 and I really do like the character's design and personalites a lot better than the other reboots from 1985, 2013 and 2018. It's a shame they never made a proper complete series onto DVD with all the season1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7 because that would keep the memories of the series alive with the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , I know they already made a few DVDs from 2003 which is disappointment sadly and I can only watch them on CZcams as long as the episodes are still there😔.
4Kids will rise from the dead, Kerry Gligorovic. Don't worry.
Dude, I just remembered I had the turtle house looooooool. So Manu good memories
This is so much fun to watch. I actually collected the old Mirage comics just to see what similar references were used for the cartoon I grew up watching. The worms that were trying to heal Che’rell was actually an idea from Return to New York Part 3 that healed Oroku Saki’s body after the debut comic issue. I guess Peter Larid wanted to cram in his best story bits in the 2003 cartoon as much as possible.
After just watching the videos on Mega Man X and watching the other TMNT video, I'm happy to say that I'm no longer here for just Sonic videos :)
Yeah, I really love his structure.
I always wished that the Shredder was an enhanced human who was saved by the Utroms back when they cras landed with their advanced technology, which made him not age similar to Bishop, than an utrom and Bishop to be the Utrom and have a bit different dynamic. IDK, the shredder being an utrom, suddenly just removes a lot of his presence and IDK character.
Overall season 2 started a bit weaker than season 1, especially with Turtles in Space, that dragged out for too long and the big reveal of the shredder, but it got much better later on.
Also they never explained why the Shredder hates his own kind, not just Mortu and his crew.
Him being an enhanced human would've also made more sense purely on the fact that all other versions of the Shredder (to my knowledge, anyways) had been humans rather than secretly being something else
@@matthewkuscienko4616 That too as well, though I haven't watched any of the TMNT after the 2003 version, I've only went back to watch the 80s ones.
True that.It really does take away from all the badass stuff he could do.
Awesome video. I subscribed after the last one and I’m really excited to see how you take the viewer through the seasons.
I don’t think I ever saw much past this season. I caught this show a few years after the fact, and probably out of order on whatever site was hosting the episodes. Brings back some memories.
Gotta admit, I’m jealous of your carded figures haha. That same issue happened with Playmates and the 2012 series, where the first figures were based on early art and therefore didn’t look like the show models. I never thought much of it, since the toys I had in the 80s and 90s didn’t match the cartoon either. I made a whole video about all the various TMNT figures last year, if you’re interested in seeing those 2003 toys you have out of the packages and displayed together :)
Great video man, can’t wait to see the next one!
Currently on a binge of the show thanks to u. I'll be back to watch this after I'm done with season two and replaying some of the games I own
