I would choose Yachtmaster over submariner every day. Beautiful!!!
smart!
The Dark Cowboy I agree. I don’t see the point of. Making a video of a watch one person dislikes.
Yacht over Sub all day
The Yacht master 40 is stunning specially with the blue dial. Hard to get too.
Same. I own the 37mm. 😅
I traded in a sub for a yachtmaster years ago.No regrets
Yacht master is the best looking watch in the rolex collection
Yachtmaster and Datejust 👍
I agree. I would buy a dark rhodium yachtmaster over a sub or sea dweller any day. the colors are just way more attractive on the yachmaster. the name does sound a little snobby though
Never seen a person who hated YM. Don't know where did you find 'everybody' that hates YM.
Your studio setting makes me think I'm about to be told my fortune.
Looks like a funeral home.
IMO... The blue dial platinum bezel YM 40 with red hands is one of the most elegant watches Rolex makes.
Exactly!
I have to agree
Agree 100%. Can’t wait to get it!
Yachtmaster has one great advantage - case design. It combines maxi dial with older case. It makes it much, much more wearable than bulky Sub or GMT with maxi case. And it is not affected by this crazy hypy. And you can actually buy it, without waiting.
Steel with blue dial is my favorite. I prefer it over sub. And finding that some might hate it makes me like it even more 🙃
Ya a lot of people would like it because of the case shape I imagine. Although it's not exactly the same as the older pre-ceramic cases, it is a bit slimmer than the Sub and GMT case.
@@JustBlueFish case is similar to datejust, with curves on left side and lugs pointing down. In real life it makes huge difference for guy with 6inch wrist. I had two subs, batman, explorer ii 40mm, explorer 39mm and datejust 36. Yachtmaster wears more like datejust than submariner. I just love it. And more elegant look make it unique to my eyes. I have quite versatile collection, from gshock to vacheron. Yachtmaster is the only rolex that I really fell in love with and found its place in my watchbox 🙃
Exactly my thoughts!!! I never liked it until I saw it in person!! It's a PERFECT case shape and size!! I am talking about the 40mm version!
Totally agree. The sleek case is gorgeous, and a nice slim profile makes it super attractive to me. And i have quite a few sports rolex (bluesy, hulk, sd43, DSSD JC, yg daytona on OF) and I want a blue dial YM. I’ll get one soon. Looks a little more elegant than the Subs, which as an avid scuba diver, I also love. Variety is the spice of life!
You are correct. The fact that it's thinner than a sub also helps in addition to the case design.
Nothing in this video is true. I own a Date Just, Submariner, and YM40 blue. By far the Yacht Master 40 blue is my absolute favourite and it’s such an elegant beautiful piece to sport with jeans or even smart casual. I guarantee the YM40 will be on the endangered supply list within the next couple years. Demand is picking up and supply is shortening, just try and find one without waiting 8-12 months from today.
My AD called. I am getting mine, blue dial 126622, on Friday......
YM40 with blue dial is constantly on back-order on used Rolex sites. My yachtie has actually APPRECIATED since I bought it for $11,550.
Funnily enough, I saw my YM40 (blue dial) on display at the AD when I bought it 3 years ago. No waiting list or anything. I wasn't so sure about it at first but loved it the second I tried it on.
Now it seems that the used price has exceeded what I paid for it brand-new, and it can be difficult to even purchase one.
@@timothyswag3594 I was told that "waiting list" for the 126622 could be up to 2 years! Luckily I am on the preferred list at the AD so I waited only 5 months. I am completely in love with m YM blue:-) Funny how people notice it.....
Once you see the blue dial yacht master in person, it is completely different especially with the new movement making it even slimmer. It’s a gorgeous do it all watch. The slim profile, platinum bezel and polished bracelet allow it to be dressed up easily!
Not everybody hates the YM 40.
I love the 37mm. Very "polite" does not scream out loud like the Submariner
I own a Yachtmaster 40... by far the most appealing Rolex imo. I absolutely love the look with the matte black and rose gold AND yes I do really like the rubber strap I really like it, it’s different but still looks classy and you can wear it with a suit or a normal polo or t shirt without any problems. That’s what I really like about it
So I find this entire conversation hilarious. I bought the Yacht-master in 2009. I owned a Daytona which I loved, but I sold it and bought a massively expensive AP Skeleton watch. Since, I've then I bought an AP diver watch in ceramic case. I wear the AP diver daily and put away the Yachtmaster -- never to be seen in years. I've since pulled out the Yachtmaster and have loved it. I am NOT a Rolex guy or care much about watches like you folks -- so I guess I'm not a good fit for this thread -- but I know what I like -- and I don't get the big hate-on for the Yacht-master as a simple guy. Anyway, like you said, we're all entitled to our opinions. I like my AP watches and I like my Yacht-master. So, whatever. My opinion? Your way too deep into this stuff... Most people would look at the Yacht-master as a nice watch without worrying if it goes 100m or 300m -- just like the rest of the Rolex line. Have fun debating.
I own the 40 mm Rhodium Dial Yachtmaster. I actually love it for WHAT it is. A more luxurious atypical Submariner laced with platinum. I don’t like ALL the iterations of the watch but they are at least unique. It just seems (although I love the iconic Sub) EVERYONE has or wants a Submariner. The Yachtmaster is very very niche but I love that. Guy is correct- it’s a divisive watch. Some love it some hate it. To me it lies somewhere in the middle for Rolex. Not the nicest yet far from the ugliest. It certainly beats the boring Oyster Perpetual, the ugly as sin Airking and the mediocre Milgauss , the absurdly over priced Pearlmaster and the forgotten Cellini’s. But it’s certainly not as iconic as the Daytona, Day-Date, Sub, Seadweller or any GMT. It’s a 90’s latecomer and didn’t resonate with everyone but I believe it will be appreciated even more in time. The YM2 is an odd duck. And deserves a whole other video lol. Keep it up Guy - love the videos man!
is it really expensive compared to the price the hulk is getting on the secondary market.....really, precious metal sexy dial.
you are obviously not sophisticated to appreciate it
It would be helpful to show a picture of the watch while you're talking about its features.
Ya I guess. I sort of figured everyone knows what a Yachtmaster looks like.
@@JustBlueFish why would they? Some people like to do their research before deciding on which Rolex to buy.
@@sonnycorinthos9461 their*
@@MrBeard-et1yi thanks for catching that. You were they’re when I needed you.
Personally, not only that I don't hate it, but I consider it the most elegant, thus most desirable of all Rolex sport watches. But, the reason for "hatred" (a strong word, but there you go) is quite simple - YM is the "middle of the road" watch, with sporty design cues (rotating bezel, 40mm case), but with water resistance equal to non-diver Rolex watches (100m, just like Datejust, Day-Daye...etc.) Plus, its overall design is very smooth, even borderline gaudy, especially on full gold and two-tone models. That being said, it is the only surviving sporty Rolex WITHOUT supercase, and it pleases me to see its curvy lugs and, in my opinion, more proportionate case design. The bottom line is that YM is well made, robust and very capable sport watch that could be used as a dress piece as well...so, what's not to like?
I find extremely attractive the dark rhodium version
The fact that those who want a rolex can only buy an entry level one...sub for example...is another reason the YM 40 is more desirable. Its a more refined a more elegant model...you know its not a sub and you know it has something that makes it look sexier...
You look like a character on the ‘guess who’ board game.
My fist luxury watch was the yachtmaster 40 with the rhodium dial and I absolutely love it. Also as a bonus I didn’t have to wait years for it.
I own the YM (blue dial) as well as many other pieces from a lot of other brands (Patek, AP, JLC, Omega, etc). I have to say that I personally rank the YM as my absolute favorite in my collection. I appreciate your perspective and opinion on the piece though. Good video with an opposing view to mine
Hi Guy, I’d like to hear your opinion on this two years later as it seems the Yacht-Master has gained momentum since then. The blue dial YM was my grail watch and I was lucky enough to get one at retail from an AD in March this year after being on the waitlist for only 2 months (my first Rolex purchase). IMO it’s a much better looking watch that the Sub, GMT or Daytona and given grey market premiums, the YM is actually cheaper than those other models.
I personally love the yhact master 40 in rose gold . Love the watch. Pity I cant afford one!
Guy I love the new lighting and video editing and the topic of the video however if I was someone looking for the things you pointed out in the watch I feel it would have helped to drop in some images of the watch for the fokes who aren't up to speed with the Yacht-Master. Other than that perfect.
exactly. shoddy execution. show the watch WHILE you talk...
I mean I assumed everyone knows what a Yachtmaster looks like it really didn’t occur to me a visual aid was necessary, my mistake!
The YM40 is intended to be the luxurious version of the Submariner.
You are correct, sir.
@guess what
They are very similar watches and the Submariner is cheaper. They are both lovely watches but more people like the Sub.
Spot on. Spot on sir!
I love the yacht-master! If you ever get the chance to wear it for a week or so, you would too.
Totally valid points. I'm after one for the luxury it combines in precious metal and tool watch usability. 116622 in platinum dial for the win. ☺️
You wouldn't buy a watch because of the name Yacht-Master...?!
Because he's a softie, and he doesn't wear things that he doesn't associate with. He should shave his beard since the words Yacht-Master hurts his feelings, don't wear a beard if you won't associate with being manly.
Yada, Yada, Yada, but you hit the nail on the head it's what makes you feel happy. We all have different taste, so you are spot on Sir. Life is too short for all that crap 👍 Tam.
16622 blue dial is kind of hard to find these days for a good price..
Yacht master is a more upmarket submariner back in the days (1999)
We can already agree on the fact that the Yacht Master II is an outsider for most people. As for the Yacht Master, although I do not own one, is perhaps one of my favorite in the Rolex catalogue. It's a dressy sports watch that you can, as you said, wear for a cocktail on a yacht, it is more refined than a submariner (case design, platinum bezel etc.) which is made to be a tool watch. Much like the Daytona, for me the Yacht Master is elegantly sporty and if it lacks performance compared to a sub, it makes it up with its beautiful lines and distinguished dial. Moreover, it is available and the fact that it is unliked by many or maybe less popular, makes it even more attractive to me.
They are suppose to be easier to find and I will only know if this is true when I now start looking.
Have to disagree Guy. A friend of mine just bought the Yacht Master 42 and I have to say it's one of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen. And I own a sub.
The YM with the blue dial is on of my favorite Rolex 💙💙💙
The quick black fade you used here works so much better for me than those quick zooms
Where is the submariner more affordable than the Yacht-master? Premiums over retail on the submariner makes it more expensive. And this one has a solid platinum bezel. In my opinion the Yacht-master is more refined; after all, since inception, Rolex designed this watch to be a high end and better submariner.
The yacht master has many things going for it. First, when you get the platinum bezel stainless watch, you get a beautiful blue dial, platinum dial or Rhodium dial. Nice compared to just Black dial for stainless Sub. The other thing it has going for it for those that want it is polished center links for a dressier look. And the best part about this watch is that it comes in several smaller sizes for smaller men and women. So if you always wanted a Submariner but are a very small person, there is a solution for you. I would say that makes it worth it in the lineup.
You failed to mention that the Yachtmaster is thinner then the Submariner and has a sleeker case which makes it more comfortable.l to wear.
Useful thoughts Guy, worth a discussion..I think it’s a very elegant watch..I’ve come close to buying the blue dial model which is stunning imho..the cost is off putting and I’ve seen used models with the bezels badly worn which I believe would be very costly to clean up, a very comfortable watch though..one day maybe.
Can someone educate me why some ym has the crown at the Swiss made font at the bottom and some doesn't?
I love the Yachtmaster. However, I grew up sailing. I certainly understand all your objections.
Love the topic because the Y.M. blue dial is my favorite of all the Rolex line the subs are great looking also but that to me is one classy watch.
It's a magnificent watch - especially the blue dial version. I would say it's a watch that stands out and grabs attention, but without being too flashy or 'blingy'. For me the Achilles heel is the lack of glide-lock adjustability. But for me that actually goes for _all_ Rolex watches that don't have either a micro-adjustable bracelet or a rubber strap. (I can't understand why adjustability to an exact fit isn't considered a standard feature for all luxury watches.)
It is a lovely watch but not everybody can afford it.
i like it as it was a watch that my father gave to me when he bought his submariner, i was like 14 so i instantly fell in love, now i can see why people don’t like it so much compared to other models. i’ll always like it just for its sentimental value.
This watch is my grail with the rhodium dial.
IMO Yahy Mater is like Mercedes S63 AMG, Luxury and sporty at the sae time.
Peronally i LOVE IT
You say you're not a Yacht type person. How many people use the submariner for diving? probably one in a thousand...The Yacht-master is a beautifully elegant watch and dresses up a suit like a submariner never could...
I'll tell you why my Blue dial YM is my favourite watch (I have other rolexes): 1) The fit is superb, it's not a maxi case and is so comfortable 2) The dial is amazing and not like the boring black dials of my other watches 3) It's much less common than subs, GMT's etc, people look twice 4) Love the bracelet so classy 5) The platinum bezel is really stunning and different to the ubiquitous ceramic bezels everywhere.
I have one made in 2007 with a white dial. Serviced in 2014. I love it. Then again, my other Rolex is a new Milgauss with black dial and green crystal. People hate both and that is their right. It wasn’t their money that bought them. Lol.
For everyone saying the Yatch master is over priced. One can buy one at the AD at retail prices for less than a used Submariner or GMT master.
I have come close, on several occasions to purchasing the YM 40. I think it’s stunning. But I have seen what the bezels look like after a few years and I just don’t want to look down and see huge gashes on my platinum bezel. Ceramic models don’t have this issue. But whenever I see a YM on the street, I smile!
Do you get seasick?
I actually like the fit versus the submariner
ANGRY WORDS!!!! We have differing opinions, but its all good! Thanks for the vid and as always, sharing your opinions in a thoughtful manner.
I would take a blue YM40 over any 6 digit sub in a heartbeat. I also absolutely love the YM2.
it was my first Rolex. and bought it because i liked it the most in de money range i could afford 14 years back
Sshhh 🤫 don’t let the secret out that the YM 40 is better than a Submariner, not many people know that the YM is the best Rolex out there, perfectly formed, a bit of sparkle, some precious metal and all for less than the price of a grey market Submariner. What’s not to like 😀
Well said! Nice lighting; that must have been difficult to get right.
I definitely don't hate it. If someone wants to gift me with either that blue dial with the red seconds hand, or the rhodium dial with the blue seconds hand, I'll do a very clumsy cartwheel for them.
Beautiful background! But is there anything you can do about the light through your spectacles?
I don’t know, wearing glassing and shooting video is a pain!
Sometimes the unpopular watches will become highly collectable in the future. I think that new tudor us navy watch that nobody seems to like will also be very collectable one day. It's a love/hate design.
The Daytona was unpopular for years!
I have both watches and love them. However I do find the sub more versatile especially when dressed down. The YM40 can be a little too dressy at times imho.
I've owned a 1995 black steel Submariner and today I do own a 2002 Platinum Yacht-Master as well as a 1999 Daytona and a 2018 GMT-II. I feel the reason the Yacht-Master gets passed over is because if a young man buys the black Submariner as his first steel sports Rolex, he is now ready to buy his second Rolex, the Yachty now is being compared to the GMT and the Daytona, both of which, unlike the Yacht-Master, have completely different movements than the Submariner. The Yacht-Master is my favorite because it has the body shape and polish of a Daytona, but with the practical movement of a Submariner. There are fewer Yacht-Masters sold than any of the other three watches. This makes the Yacht-Master the most exclusive. The Yacht-Master is the most jewelry-like, and some guys can't handle the bling.
Traded my 116610LN since it was a boring watch. Now the YM is interesting, thinner, with a better case and seriously exiting watch. Why everybody hates yacht master? Haven't met one yet
I love the yacht master i got 2 of them
If you live in a maritime location, Yacht-Master is a great name for a Rolex. This blue dial model has a platinum bezel and is truly gorgeous.
The Yacht Master is different, it's strangely understated yet completely over the top at the same time. At the end of the day it what fits your wrist. I had originally set my heart for a Submariner but my wrist didn't agree with 40mm case. I ended up going with the 37mm dark rhodium Yacht Master. The bezel is more practical to use day to day on the YM being bidirectional being it's not considered LSE. I find the embossed bezel to be perfectly legible and usable. Another notch in the Sub's corner is that the secondary price is insane. The YM isn't as popular and it's shows in the secondary market pricing.
I think it is thier best design ever.
Well, it's my favorite Rolex with the Batman
I am proud to be a watch snob. A watch snob is a person with a strong opinion on what he or she likes and dislikes with a well informed horological background. When l am eventually called a snob and much worse it is because the other person is at a loss for words and is so frustrated they were in the wrong. Cheers
The bezal rotates both ways... what's good about that?
I prefer the YM to the Sub, but I enjoyed your video!
This is one of my favorite Rolex designs
I received a yatchmaster ll gold as a gift,I have a yatch,I'm getting use to liking it.
The YM is becoming harder to find in stores. I personally love the ss models.
I’ve both, but I really prefer YM as my everyday watch, very comfortable, look nice in everyday
The 40 mm platinum/steel blue dial Yacht Master is BEAUTIFUL from any single perspective. Disagree 100% with your opinion.
41mm sorry
The YM is just another level for people who can afford a more elegant Sub. The Sub is more entry level.
Your right I dont care about your opinion I absolutely love my Yacht master. I dont care about the image I project via my watch.
Thnx for watching.
I love the yachtmaster, my dad has a gmt master batman and i want a yachtmaster or Daytona
The Ym 126622 Blue Dial, my favorite Rolex is simply an incredible watch❤
I like the Yachmaster , always did. I have the two tone Everose and would like the stainless with blue dial one day. To each his own. I hate the Yachmaster 2. Rolex is forcing the Yachmaster on me to get me into the Batgirl and Pepsi club! 😁
I disagree slightly, but appreciate your view. I don’t own a Yachtmaster, and may never, because I have more than a couple. But if I could own one watch, just one, it just may be the Yachtmaster, because it fits with almost any occasion. But because I have watches for different occasions, it’s not for me, but I do like it.
I own an Omega... And I have never heard so many bullshits about a watch all together.
The font on the bezel is the same as on the GMT Master II and the Explorer I and II: Eurostile.
This is a great modern sports watch alternative to Nautilus and Royal Oak. Its very comfortable and many people will be happy with its comfort wearing more like a Daytona.
I don't often captain a yacht, but when I do, I'm sure to be wearing my Yachtmaster by Rolex!
...well, I would, anyway...
Three months ago, I saw 4 different subs worn by people in the span of 45 minutes. There is nothing special about the Sub. I agree with Thimble that subs are for unsophisticated lemmings. The Rolex sub has been reduced to McDonalds luxury along with coach bags and Burrbery shirts.
The image of being a Yacht guy isn't as cool to you as being stuck on a submarine?
Very good review. And my wife has a TT YM. She likes the looks. I like my Sub.
The most beautiful Rolex....Love it !!
As the saying goes, there's something out there for everyone. While I don't love the watch I like that the choice exists.
So, Rolex creates a better version to replace their bread and butter (Submariner), which happens to have a PLATINUM bezel, has way, way better proportions at 40mm and it’s actually more expensive because it IS a better watch. Also, not to mention better looking than the ubiquitous black submariner you see everywhere!!
I like it being call "The Regatta Timer" better. It's more fitting for the type of sport it theams.
Respectfully disagree. I think the Yacht Master looks MUCH better than the boring submariner and I have a Submariner.
I bought the submariner when I first started making good money years ago. I had know clue about watches and I learned quickly I didn’t like the sub I bought. Good news is, I won’t lose money on it and I learned both what I like and don’t like.
The beautiful starburst dial, contrasting second hand, and unique bezel insert pops and looks great. The submariner just looks boring.
Not to mention, the Yacht Master was originally going to replace the Submariner. It literally is an upgrade, they just decided to make a new line instead of replace the Sub.
Great video as usual, to each their own, but I’m certain 9 out of 10 people would pick a Yacht Master over a Submariner.
There are a lot more positive comments about the watch than negative from your viewers. A lot of people with good taste and personally feel your chosen title is misplaced.
I didn’t say there wouldn’t be more people that like it. I said someone else asked this question, and I can only speak for myself. I’m not surprised there is a lot of positive comments about the watch.
I have really enjoyed my Yachtmaster. It is comfortable and I think it has held its value well.
The biggest difference between the YM40 and the Sub is that there are no false pretenses of it being a “tool watch” as there are with the Sub. The modern Sub is extreme capable but let’s be real, it’s jewelry. The YM40, since it’s inception in the 90’s, has never pretended to be anything other than that and I think that’s great! Plus the case design is, at least for my wrist, far superior to the modern Sub.
The Yacht master is a beautiful watch
How about taking a look at the new Stratton GMT and the Three Hand.
What's not to love about a more luxurious version of a submariner. The watch is more balanced and can be worn on any occasion.
