Before the show " last of us " even came out and make fear to everyone like a type of zombie pandemic.
    Testimonials to tell:
When i was young, momma cook soup and informed that the name winter wood worm but didn't even give any details because our family born in South East Asia, just informed is very good for health benefit comes from China, that's all i could remembered.
i was so curious , why chinese eat weird stuff , even worm in it ?
i even eat the whole caterpillar fungus, although momma said don't eat it , just for herbal soup based and let the taste tasty, but curious me ate the worm (caterpillar fungus).
Later on as adult ,i worked in hospital around year 2015 onward, i heard about caterpillar fungus was a trend to health boost, till on the way to extinction is coming to the end. My mom had hard time to find this caterpillar fungus is so expensive , and she was very upset , making soup lack of ingredients will cause imbalance in become toxic to ones health. Started that time onward my family had no longer get the caterpillar fungus till now.
One of my local native friend of mine had poor immunity , he told me , how he hope he can find the caterpillar fungus supplement or powder to eat or drink it. He also pointed at me, "you Chinese people, you i believed you had plently when you were young" and i replied "yes, i had it many time in my life time" and he replied " how lucky of you, your ancestor found this herb and also do imported to South East Asia till the next generation had a sip of the caterpillar fungus" and i replied " year 2015 is become rare item , my family had been stopped" and he was very sad to heard this.
so far so good i'm not a zombie, no such a thing this fungus messed up with me, because my mom loved of the caterpillar fungus, she can make the soup almost every month when was a child.
    Ophiocordyceps sinensis (caterpillar fungus)
    Ophiocordyceps unilateralis (ant zombie fungus)
Nowaday caterpillar fungus no longer seen in Traditional Chinese Medical shop, the only available is cut out and trimmed the orange pieces of the fungus itself due to the caterpillar itself is also on the way to extinction. People are working hard to harvest the fungus, just like another mushroom.
