Walked out of the crematorium from my mums funeral to this song. She was 91 and passed with lung and bone cancer on 24/08/2021.
She loved this guy and every time I hear it now it brings tears 😢 Love you mum, see you soon!! ❤🙏

great to hear all these comments about the late truly great Matt Munro...my fav. music is heavy metal,heavy rock and blues but outside that i'm into all kinds of stuff including(in my opinion) the greatest crooning singer of all time...Matt Munro....he was a true cockney boy born and brought up in london's east end (i'm from the other side of the river thames-that flows through the centre of london) i'm from Peckham in S.E. London and he was a real family man-he used to work as a long-distance lorry but stopped doing it cos he missed his family too much so he then worked as a london bus driver and he entered a singing contest in a boozer (a pub) and he won it and as they say the rest is history...when asked who they thought was the best singer in the world (frank sinatra,sammy davis jnr,dean martin and others) they all without hesitation said Matt Munro. He went to america to tour there but came back home early to England because he missed his family too much and vice-versa...he very sadly passed away in 1984 and i think it was his lovely widow (Micki) who came across a tape in the back of their garage which was him in concert in australia in 1968 and it shows his warmth,humility,sense of humour and of course his great singing voice...if ur a Matt Munro fan like me it is definitely worth watching...it is professionally filmed and the sound quality is good...the late truly great Matt Munro-R

Sounds like he just didn't want to give his life to touring USA and the time it takes away from family as you say, unlike say Tom Jones or Engelbert for instance (think he was just too grounded and decent a fellow!) therefore never quite as famous as they were, but certainly revered by his fellow professionals for his brilliant natural delivery of a song.
He delivered that song with great conviction and dramatic force. I was too young to appreciate him but do remember my mum listening to him with real attention.💕

This great singer had to hold back a little here due to the studio setting, but just imagine the full power of that magnificent voice on the concert stage. I was lucky enough to see him perform in Dublin, Ireland in the now long gone Chariot Inn in 1974. You could have heard a pin drop as he sang one beautiful song after another. He stayed for almost an hour after his performance signing autographs and he had a kind word for everyone he met. One of natures gentlemen. A once in a generation talent.

@@alanbishop7852 Well I wouldn't have really noticed this either except by hearing one of Matt Monro's long time friends, fellow singer Roger Whittaker talking about it on T.V. many years ago. He explained that in the confines of a T.V. studio you have to hold back a little especially on songs such as powerful ballads. Whereas singers like himself and Matt Monro could really go for the big notes in a concert hall. I never saw one of Matt Monro's big converts but I've heard recordings of his huge concerts in the Philippines and he sang with far more power than he did in the smaller venues.

Monro was one of the great crooners, along with Jack Jones, Steve Lawrence, Nat King Cole, Vic Damone, Tony Bennett, Eddie Fisher, and many others. And let's not forget the female crooners such as Rosemary Clooney, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, etc. I really miss that style of singing. It's definitely a dying art.
